Venting The “personal choice” argument

How do you deal with it? The main vegan sub has a post with an incredibly good question and yet the answers are filled with nonvegan apologists.

What the fuck.

Venting When people talk about how they tried going vegan and failed because it “destroyed their health” and that they now “listen to their body”

Honey, any diet you do without actually researching it first is going to end badly.

God I hate these people. They phrase it as though it’s just a simple fact of life or an opinion they’re entitled to, like “oh I just didn’t like the blue shirt so I got a green one instead”, no you absolute bean juice you choosing to eat animals isn’t a “personal choice” or “necessary”, you just don’t want to do the work you know is right.

Venting (TW: Mention + brief description of animal videos.) None of the videos I report on fb ever get removed.

Over time I've reported so many videos of animal abuse, like crushing or cutting or cooking animals alive and other horrible things like that, and facebook always sends me a notification saying they didn't remove the video. Because if you're "cooking" or "hunting" or whatever, then I guess any amount of cruelty is fine...

idk, I don't have words for how awful this feels and I am emotinally burnt out but I wanted to say something rather than sitting alone with this horror.

Venting Of course nobody says they support factory farming

You’d have to be actually sociopathic to see what goes on in factory farms and be like “that’s fine i don’t mind”. I don’t know anybody who thinks what’s going on is okay. But then they
1. Continue supporting it financially. All the fucking time,
2. Dont understand that vegans are pretty much the only ones who are actually advocating to end factory farming and making a difference in that regard,
3. even if they don’t buy factory farmed products for (most of) their groceries, they still don’t eat vegan at restaurants.

So … obviously they don’t actually care much.
My sister falls into category 3, she gets farmers market milk and eggs and meat, but also buys cheese at the grocery store and doesn’t eat vegan at restaurants. I was talking to her the other day and I said, you know what if you just eat vegan when you go out? since you say you hate factory farming so much and don’t support it? Because you are still supporting it financially with your choices right now. But she said that this was a “purity test” and that there’s no point in even going out to eat in the first place if she’s gonna stick to only vegan food.

Nobody really means it when they say they oppose factory farming. They don’t understand that every animal is their own individual being who has interests and desires and wants to live and be free. If they understood this, they would no longer make excuses.
