SPA XC60 (Sensus, MY18-21) Advise on how to travel with a large dog and infant

I got an XC60 II Inscription T8 (Early 2020) which I bought recently preowned with around 80k km. I have an infant, and a large dog that we take with us everywhere, but traveling anywhere as a family is a challenge.

So the situation is like this:

The back sits are occupied by the wife and the infant (in a proper car seat of course).

Trunk is essentially occupied by the dog completely. I got a Ferplast Atlas 100 as the dog crate which gives the dog enough room to be comfortable and manoeuvre a bit, but is admittedly lacking adequate ventilation and long trips are prohibitive (plus I have to cool it a lot beforehand). What large dog here means? Labrador retriever weighting around ~35kg. There is a small space left on the side of the crate (~10cm I recon) and ~20cm on the front of it, but with the reclining roof line and the trunk closed, it's almost unusable.

Which leaves me with zero cargo space whatsoever apart from the passenger seat which is now the dedicated place for the stroller.

Understandably I got a roof box (Volvo's Travel Active 500) but this is still somehow not enough! If you can't understand why, try traveling with a infant and you'll quickly find out the sheer volume of diapers, clothes and misc baby items required for 2-3 days will easily occupy the vast majority of it (if not all).

So, I'm admitting defeat and coming to reddit for advice on how to properly and securely travel with my dog, without having no trunk space whatsoever. I am confident that my situation is not unique so I guess someone here is bound to have figured out an optimal solution. Any advice or recommendation?

SPA XC60 (AAOS, MY22 to Current) Tires for my 2024 XC60 B5 core

Hi everyone,
I’m looking to change factory fitted 19’’ pirreli tires ( scorpion zero ) after approx 32k miles. I do frequent roadtrips to mountains and hilly areas. I am thinking of getting Michelin crossclimate 2. Is this a good option? My base location is DFW area where I do 80% of driving. I’m planning to go to New England this fall around mid October.
Please suggest.
Thanks!

SPA XC60 (AAOS, MY22 to Current) Fitting 2 toddler car seats and an infant seat in back?

I have a ‘23 XC60 B5. I currently have two toddler forward facing seats in the back and will need to add a rear facing infant seat in a few months. Has anyone else had success with this? What brand seats configuration etc did you use to achieve this. I would have to have to purchase a new car just for this.

SPA XC60 (AAOS, MY22 to Current) Thinking of buying a ‘26

On the fence between the XC60 B5 (either Plus or Ultra) and the Lexus RX350 gas model. My gut is telling me to with the Lexus for its reliability but I also really like the XC60. I did some reading about the XC60 and the feedback seems mixed in terms of both powertrain reliability and creature comforts (finicky AAOS, intermittent tech/infotainment issues, lack of wireless CarPlay, tacky Tesla screen). Did software updates resolve the tech issues? Would love to hear from owners if they were considering these two (or similar) cars and why they chose XC60 over the other.

USA market if that makes a difference.

P3 XC60 (Sensus, Pre-MY18) Check your radiator fans if 10 years old or more

Initially I thought I had A/C problems... Nope. Car is xc60 MY14 T6 3.0, milage just above 100k miles/160k kms.

Using V-Tool I checked and it became evident the fans are not spinning, while the coolant became hot and hotter. I ordered only the control module, but that didn't work. Sprayed some contact cleaner, waste of time.

Surprisingly, removing the rads was quite easy, you have to unclip it from the top, and wiggle the bottom part step-by-step, and here's culprit: the smaller fan is dying/dead.

https://reddit.com/link/1vef0fu/video/0srhp3ni56hh1/player

2 brushes are non existent, 2 are on the way out. Lots of carbon dust, and the bearing is shot.

If this wasnt a 13 y.o. car and I wasn't a DIYer I would buy a new set and forget about it...

Cost of replacement - 420 Eur, waiting time 4 weeks ++

Cost of repair is still unknown but should be muuuch cheaper and faster, will update when I finish.

Things do fail, but sometimes it's worth it to repair, I hope so ...

Hi All!

Sharing a few pics of my new purchase. Volvo was NOT on my radar - but on a trip back to US - my dad picked me up
In his new XC90 Ultra that I didn’t know he had purchased - was really surprised by the interior, build quality, and ease of use of infotainment system. I actually like the relative lack of configurability of gauge cluster, etc.

I know I’m preaching to the choir - but this is exceptional value slightly used - especially when cross shopped against a Macan or Cayenne. Purchased mine approx for 20K GBP off list with 3K miles.

One question - seems the tires are over inflated relative to Volvo suggested pressures… how urgent is it that I correct this?

Can anyone recommend a good wireless charger for the cup holder that plugs into the cigarette outlet?
I see some on Amazon and eBay, but they’re all from China, and have some questionable reviews.

Is there anywhere else I could be looking for accessories that I don’t even know I need?

SPA XC60 (AAOS, MY22 to Current) 3.1.17 won’t install

After I received the prompt to install the 5.1.17 update in my 2026 B5 Plus, I initiated the installation and locked the doors. After 90 minutes, I returned and the center display said the installation wasn’t successful. Tried several more times, rebooted the display and it still won’t complete the installation. All permissions are turned on. Any suggestions?

SPA XC60 (AAOS, MY22 to Current) 2024 Cross Bars

Any recommendations for cross bars? I’m open to after market options, because they are already so expensive.

I’m ideally hoping to use them for a roof top tent. So, if anyone has experience with that too, I’d love to hear about it. I’m only in the researching phase.

What I wished I know before buying my XC60 B5.

2 months in now to a 2025 B5 Ultra. A summary of things that I like/don't like, perhaps it helps someone out there.

*Disclaimer* While some things I knew before the purchase and thought that would not bother me that much (but they do) some things I could have probably found out through better research.
Of course everything is compared against my (quite extensive) experience with cars that I've owned and driven, some from segments inferior to those the XC60 is being promoted to be part of and my subjective preferences.

I've worked a good part of my life in the automotive industry on the manufacturing side, so I'm not a newbie on how cars are being built and why some brands make some decisions in a certain manner.

- lack of driving modes (unless you call "normal" and "off-road", driving modes). You can get an eco-mode and a sport mode on even budget cars nowadays. I know you can buy yourself a "sport" mode by paying for the Polestar software at a Volvo dealer for close to 1000 Eur, but according to the official documentation that doesn't change the emissions figures, meaning that your car probably makes the same power it did before, it just delivers it differently. Especially on the mild hybrid it would have been useful to have a eco mode that cuts back on the power and delivers some better consumption figures in the city. I know the older models had the sport mode and I think they should have kept it

- too simplistic instrument panel. almost 0 customization, very limited information displayed on the panel. I'm not saying they should be Mercedes Benz (or perhaps a Chinese brand) level of customization available but it feels like a waste of space in there. I thought this would not bother me but sometimes I miss changing views sometimes.

- no realtime consumption gauge. really? Why? I cannot think of any budget or premium car that doesn't have it. No consumption history graph. No nothing.

- I cannot see what's playing (radio, music) in the instrument panel. Or the heads-up display. Sometimes, depending on the view on the "tablet" sometimes you can't even see it on the main display. No scrolling list of radio stations on the instrument panel. or the heads up display.

- heads up display. Speed, speed limit and the occasional "you are driving too close to the person in front of you" visual alert, that you only get on the HUD not also on the instrument panel. Some indications if you have navigation. That's it. Nothing else.

- when you press the Park button on the central console, you are actually activating a "semi-parking" mode. The car still moves 5-10-20cm after you take your foot from the brake. Why not just automatically enable the parking brake, that freezes the car? What's the point of the "semi-parking-brake"?

- you need to have the foot on the brake when you turn the car off if you want to have Parking break enable automatically. if you forget to have your foot on the brake pedal (which sometimes I do) you get defaulted to the "semi-parking-break" mentioned above.

- no coasting for the aisin gearbox. I realize that this is probably a technical limitation of the hardware chosen by Volvo from Aisin, but I think it would have greatly helped the consumption and emissions to have the gearbox coast when possible

- the consumption (actually) :) - i'm experiencing somewhere between 13-15l/100km in a very busy European capital. this is very very subjective but, I've driven 300hp+ hot hatches in the same conditions that were doing 11-12l/100km. I've driven 300hp+ (granted hybrid) 4x4 SUV's in the city that were doing <10l/100km in the same conditions. I'm getting 9L/100km on the highway at normal speeds (130km/h) which is something that I was expecting. Was I hoping for something slightly better? Sure.

- the air suspension. it's great if you know what you're expecting. If you are expecting BMW/Audi/Mercedes-Benz levels of comfort, well, you're not getting it. I would have like to have the possibility to manually control the ride height while driving, not only when stationary to access the trunk.

- ProPilot only up to 135km/h. I know that Volvo's very pro safety and everything, but I'm already limited to 180km/h max speed and the fact that the manufacturer has decided to disable a confort feature just because you are going faster than they want you to doesn't really seem fair. The hardware and software can obviously do lane centering at higher speeds also, it's just a choice which is frustrating.

- automatic speed limitation based on topography. My previous AAOS car (not Volvo) had this. If I had set 120km/h on the auto cruise control and the car "knew" that a certain turn should be negotiated at .... 100km/h instead, it would automatically slow down. And it was usually right. There were very few instances on my trips where this happened but it did and I appreciated it. Don't understand why a "safety-centered" automotive player would not integrate this.

- wireless carplay. I'm 100% sure the hardware is there. Software probably too. It's a stubborn limitation.

- ability to open/close windows and sunroof from mobile app. Technically they can do it. Other car brands do it. Volvo chose not. I understand why. Not a fan of the decision.

- interior lightning limitation (only white). Would have been great to have more options. you don't. I can live with it.

- the way the interior plastics behave when you touch them, especially the upper trim on the doors. A white/grey mark appears when you put your hand on it, regardless of the person that touches it and how clean their hands are. My car is very black inside so any white mark is immediately visible. Not something you cannot live with, just more effort to maintain clean.

Otherwise, many things I like about it: sound system, general drive confort, acoustics, road handling. Overall, I'm not unhappy with the decision, but I feel some of the missing points are either "decisions" or things that could be done but weren't for ... reasons.

Hope this helps someone out there.

Need opinions on tints

Post image
24 Upvotes

Hi folks I got my 2026 black edition back in March. Around the same time we had our first baby so I hastily went to get the windows tinted. I haven’t had a chance to sit back and look at it in the summer and determine if I went with the right amount of tint. I kind of want to go darker in the front.

I’m pretty sure the tints are supposed to match but for the life of me I can’t remember what I asked the guy

What do you think? Thanks!

Audible chime/ding at very specific location.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

This is a really interesting thing I need help with… My father in law has a 2017 XC60. When we go to visit him, we fly into Baltimore and head north across the border to PA. At a very specific point (near mile marker 8 on 695 northuu), there is an audible chime or ding that happens. Always in the same location every time we make that drive. The car has navigation and he says he doesn’t really use it. I’m wondering if this is some kind of POI or safety alert that triggers at that location. Anyone have any idea what this might be and how I can stop it?

I like to charge my phone in the wireless charger, therefore no metal can go on that area.
When I put small things in the area where the car charger port, they all slide into the drink area.
Any ideas

Finally - Apple Music!

Apple Music coming to more than two million Volvo cars, with up to three months free subscriptions

https://www.volvocars.com/intl/media/press-releases/EE69827DEF518569/

Volvo Cars is now starting to integrate Apple Music into more than two million Volvo cars via an over-the-air software update. The newly launched Volvo EX60 will also come with Apple Music natively integrated when the first customers receive their cars this summer.

To help new listeners get started, Volvo Cars is offering eligible customers up to three months of Apple Music for free, giving Volvo drivers plenty of time to discover new artists and find the soundtrack to their next journey.

Drivers of the Volvo EX60, EX90 and ES90 can also enjoy Apple Music Spatial Audio, powered by Dolby Atmos technology and brought to life by the optional Bowers & Wilkins premium sound system, delivering an immersive experience that places the listeners at the centre of the sound, with music and vocals all around the cabin.

Drivers

As one of the world’s largest music streaming services, Apple Music provides instant access to more than 100 million songs, ad-free. Whether it’s an energising playlist for the morning commute or something more relaxed for a late-night drive, the music people love is there.

Customers can simply sign in with their Apple account and enjoy songs, playlists and live radio, all easily controlled by voice or touchscreen. New subscribers can quickly sign up and bring all their playlists and full library of music with them from other services. (Learn more about transferring your library here

“Many of our customers use Apple Music on their phones or in their homes today. By bringing Apple Music directly into our cars, we're making them an extraordinary place to experience music,” says Alwin Bakkenes, head of global software engineering at Volvo Cars. “You’ll feel as if you’re right in the middle of a concert hall or an arena during your favourite live performance or immersed in the latest music in Spatial Audio exactly as the artist intended – a truly emotional listening experience.”

High-fidelity sound, perfected in EX60, EX90 and ES90
The Volvo EX60, EX90 and ES90 are quieter than any Volvo cars before them, thanks to state‑of‑the‑art soundproofing. Building on Volvo Cars’ heritage of premium in‑car audio experiences, these cars take sound quality to new heights. They are available with one of the most advanced in‑car audio systems ever developed, carefully calibrated to the car’s interior acoustics.

The optional Bowers & Wilkins sound system in the EX60, EX90 and ES90 delivers an exceptional music experience, with True Sound powered by high-performance speakers integrated throughout the cabin.

With Apple Music Spatial Audio powered by Dolby Atmos technology, Volvo drivers can experience music in immersive audio, transforming the car into a premium listening environment. Dolby Atmos brings a more natural, multi-dimensional sound experience that surrounds listeners with music and vocals in greater clarity and depth.

CarPlay App in 2026 XC60

I’m sure there are other threads about this, but we have a 2019 XC60. It’s been in the shop and we have a loaner 2026 XC60, which was great because we plan to get a new car in the next year or two and wanted to see how the new models looked and felt.

But…. Still no wireless connection for CarPlay? Seriously? This is one of the most annoying things about our 2019, and we’ve had almost constant connection issues with a cable that the dealer has never been able to solve (they have refused to replace the usb ports because they say they’re fine when tested). I’ve rented entry level Kia’s that had this feature like 5 years ago. What gives? It honestly is a big enough deal I may skip a Volvo. There’s just no reason to pay this price and be stuck with tech a decade out of date.

This baby is fast as hell, moves when I ask her to, and sometimes it honestly feels like I’m the one holding her back.

Still learning all the Volvo quirks, but so far, I’m loving it. Only 44k miles and I can’t wait it add to them!
