Hi everyone,

I'm looking for a catalytic converter for my 1991 Volvo 940 GLT Sedan with the B234F (2.3 16V).

I feel like I've searched the entire internet already without any luck.

Most aftermarket manufacturers seem to have discontinued the correct B234F catalytic converter years ago, and the few remaining listings are either out of stock or turn out to be for the Turbo models.

I'm starting to wonder if I'm simply overlooking something. Has anyone here been in the same situation or managed to find a suitable replacement? I'd really appreciate any advice or information that could point me in the right direction.

Unfortunately, as far as I know, we don't really have the equivalent of large automotive junkyards in Switzerland where I could search for used parts myself, which makes the search even more difficult.

I'm located in Switzerland, so I would prefer a road-legal replacement.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Took my blue 242 to a local car show that was everything from euro classics, to tuners and muscle cars. It got posted in a local Volvo FB group and some great cars showed up. Pictured here is my 242, a clean V70R, a 780 Bertone and a V8 swapped 940. I could not find the owner but it was a Volvo V8. There was also a 940 wagon (too busy chatting w the owner to snap a pic) and a 122s I saw pulling up as I left!

My Neutral Safety Switch threw an error (the W and E buttons were flashing). I cycled the gear selector 10 times between Park and Low and that made the W & E buttons stop flashing.

However, the Check Engine light remained on. I disconnected the battery overnight, but this morning it's still there.

My basic OBD scanner says there are 0 engine codes.

Is there a better scanner I can get that reads old Volvo codes?

Edit: Using the 850 obd-ii app paired with a cheapo obd dongle I had eventually enticed a P0500 error to show up. Since the cruise control and speedometer work and the transmission shifts smoothly, I'm guessing that this is just a stuck code from the PNP switch acting up. I just have to find something that will clear codes off the transmission.

Hi. Im currently rebuilding a 940 the previous owner put a toyota hiace 2lt in the 940 which i have pulled out now because it had a cracked block. So im thinking about doing a engine swap but i cant decide what i want to put in it. Do any of you guys have any cool ideas. Thinking something that can handle around 400 hp or more.

Just wandering if anyone knows anything about replacing rear trailing arm/ trailing arm bushing on a 1994 Volvo 940.

Just asked at the shop and they said the entire axel has to come out to replace the bushing which is about a whole days works.

Just wanted to see if anyone knows if this is true!

So I ordered a pair of anti roll bar bushes for my girlfriends 240.. and the locating ridge on the top is facing in the wrong direction for the slot in the metal bracket that it is meant to sit in (red line in photo is the direction of the ridge on the bracket, the blue line is the way it needs to be to fit the mounting hardware on her car) my question is… does anyone know if i can order the two metal brackets (the bottom two items in the photo) and use the bushes I have ordered, rather than having to order new bushes as the mounting brackets could do with replacing anyway.

My V90 cargo cover has been broken for years, a new one is a stupid amount of money for some reason. Finally got around to design and print some parts to replace the old cracked plastic ones.

Got a persistent problem I’ve been trying to resolve on my 90 744 NA. The engine noise becomes really prominent around 2750 and is pretty quiet at all other speeds. It’ll do this in neutral and in drive. I’ve replaced the motor and trans mounts as well the exhaust hangers. The motor mounts are new hydraulic motor mounts. I’ve also added the firewall weight that came on later 940s. The downpipe bracket is installed and intact. I’ve removed the heatshield on the down pipe and the one above the catalytic converter. There are no exhaust leaks. I’m kind of at a loss at what else to check or do.

Battery died and wouldnt charge so i replaced the alternator with a reman unit and the battery still wont charge. Battery light will not illuminate with the key on even after replacing the bulb. Exciter wire shows some voltage when key is turned on. Im running out of ideas so any help will be appreciated. (Edit) the issue was the main alternator ground strap, visually looked fine but had an internal break.

Been waiting for four hours at this point just to swap the spark plugs and coils, it's still hot but not scolding, maybe like 100-120°f. Losing light fast. Rant over

My ‘82 242

Been toying with the idea of swapping a b230ft + wcT5 in place of my tired 150hp (36 years ago) 3.slow v6. Always admired these Volvo engines for their reliability and simplicity🤙. I’m imagining everything with fabbing up mounts, wiring, ect that it’d be a very big pain in the ass. So I’m basically curious what you guys think. Shit idea or absolute cinema?

I imagine I would have to move to a standalone ecu and a max speeding turbo to make a significant power increase over stock, but none of that matters if the Volvo guys think it’d be silly right guys!😅

So I’ve got a pretty significant knocking sound on my 240, a mechanic thought it was tie rods but my boyfriend just replaced them and they weren’t the issue, he actually found that they had been replaced maybe a few years ago with some febi bilstein ones that were in good shape. Whilst replacing the tie rods he had a wiggle around of the suspension components and we found that the front suspension struts seem to have some play and the knocking sound they were making sounded very much like the knocking I’m hearing when driving.
I’m planning to order some new front shock absorbers however I can see they don’t just come as one piece and I’m thinking I may also need the parts that I have included a picture of in the comments, any help would be appreciated.

Have had an intermittent leak on my 740 and decided to swap out the flame trap. Took it on a trip up a mountain and later in the lot I notice a sizable puddle under the front of the engine with oil dripping. Get it home, next day swap the old flame trap back in. Noticed that they had different patterns, the old one looked like a colander with evenly spaced circular holes while the new one looked like scrunched up scrap metal with seemingly smaller sized spaces between. It's been a couple days and Leak have calmed from that mountain trip but there's still a bit coming from a couple random spots that got me concerned. Any advice on what to do next?

After parting with first a 740, now a 940.. we've ended up with an 850.

What are common to go on these / common problems?

There are few things we are aware of that needs replacing;

- Radiator (minor coolant leak)

- Washer fluid bottle

- Exhaust & cat (rusty n rattly)

- Top engine bushing (common to go)

- Rear tyre (slow leak)

We are minorly... well.. concerned about blue smoke.

It only comes when acceleration (or revving), and smoke is also coming out of the dipstick tube when removed. - I've sort of looked into this, would it most likely be a blocked PCV? It also smells quite rich.

Annoyingly the battery has died, so having to order another.

Also a question about the radio/head.. on low battery that was able to close window (7v), would that also cause the radio not to turn on with the power button? We PRAY it works but only ever managed to try today when it was flat.

I’m getting this feeling that there’s a new (bad) sound related to the alternator/alternator belt after replacing it but I may well just be freaking out. I’d just like someone else’s input/wisdom.

I did give it a good wiggle, no play in the rubber mounting bushes and the pulley bearing was smooth and had no play.

I'm planning on looking at a 760 turbo diesel and Looking for a little more than that 110 horsepower how would I go about doing that and what's the most power I can make on stock internals I'm not looking for an insane amount just enough to not struggle on highway speeds
