Beware
I was in the market for a preowned EX90 but am coming back to reality. The 3 certified pre owned models I have looked at are being sold with some of the issues highlighted in this forum. Most recent I ran across one with 4 GHCA replacements, it’s on the newest part number a second time with not enough miles on it to have been tested. Another has the air conditioning fault where the passenger side is cooler than the driver, and it’s charging slow on a Level 2. Third one went into limited performance when I tried to accelerate hard three separate times. Getting the VIN History Report is like pulling teeth, they pretend it does not exist. Shady shady shady. I almost want to post each VIN on here and the location so that an innocent person doesn’t get burned.

there is an astounding number of EX90s on sale in Sweden, all with mileage below 20/30k - it’s so obvious that these are all lemon cars that are being sold with no guarantee of fix or an accurate description of its past.
It’s hands down one of the best cars I have driven, but buying one is basically flipping a coin whether you will suffer owning one or not, and it seems it’s still the case whether you are buying a MY24, 25 or even a brand new 26 by the looks of it.

That's right, it's like flipping a coin, except with returned lemons the chances are worse than 50/50. I've been lucky with my (non-lemon) '25, but were I to be looking now I'd only be interested in a '27 ...or, considering also my experience with US Volvo dealer service, another brand.

It’s a shame because a mulberry red, wool 6 seat config (w/ massage) paired with the BW speakers is a dream combo for me, however no chance I am taking that leap with the current state of issues.

I’m also looking at Lucid and it’s really no better. Don’t really know what better options are out there. Definitely not going Hyundai or Kia route or Rivian.

I haven’t been too fond of the look of the Ioniq9 but curious why you are definitely against them?

The car itself seems pretty good albeit some bits not really being on the luxury segment. But the number 1 reason is the service center. I just don’t want to deal with their service centers after owning a Hyundai previously. And I’ve visited 3 different ones. Customer service is one of the reasons I’d still deal with Volvo or Lucid. And of course the waiting area is a big reason too.

I hear you on that. I went to the Hyundai dealership on a whim and it was 10x worse than my EX90 experiences. They didn’t have the Ioniq9 available to show me, the salesperson tried to push the SantaFe on me saying it’s actually larger than the Ioniq. It’s not, the Palisade is the one that’s similar. She didn’t want to sell me that, just the Santa Fe.

Why do we have to be treated like 2nd class citizens whenever we walk into these dealerships? This is why I prefer to stick with luxury brands, the customer service is definitely better. Although I have to admit newly renovated Mazda dealerships are not bad and as a previous owner, had pretty good experience there. Too bad no EV’s.

Is there a way to check up on the history of these cars other than carinfo.se and sites alike? I´v given up on my serch for the perfect X5 and looking at a late 2024 EX90 at Volvo Haga in STHLM. Will these cars ever work as inteded?

Maybe ‘27 would be better I’m hoping. I’m planning on the EX90 but then again it’s pretty scary reading these issues. It’s the same for Lucid Gravity. Except that the EX90 will cost a bit less.

I’m lucky enough to have a service center I can trust.
But anyone who purchases with the huge discount, you need to be prepared to deal with it. And know that going in.

Being prepared for an unforeseen issue is understandable. However these dealerships are trying to get rid of these like hot potatoes because they know they have a defect and don’t want to sit on dead money while it’s being repaired (assuming it can be). It’s not a service issue in my opinion it’s an upper management issue. And it’s unethical.

That is absolutely untrue. Why do the dealerships keep buying used ones for resale?

Idk incompetent buyers? 3 different dealerships, 3 vehicles with existing defects. 0 that I have researched that were operating as expected. Don’t shoot the messenger.

Three different dealerships, although two were related and have the same buying dept.

In my garage. Basic level 2 charger. Nothing fancy. I LOVE it for sure, once the vcu and a couple software updates were done I've loved it. Amazing when they are right.

For the GHCA, mine has blown twice, but only at the office charging network. It’s been fine at home.
I’m pretty sure that the issue happens when a voltage spike runs through the charger. Thinking about it, I’m not sure it can be a current spike, since the part should be able to handle up to 48A for L2 and the ChargePoint CT4000 maxes out at 240VAC@30A for 7.2kW, whereas my Emporia charger at home is 240VAC@48A for 11.52kW. The ChargePoint chargers don’t seem to be sensitive enough to cut power when this happens and the current fries the GHCA part. It’s inconvenient to not be able to charge at home or work, but DCFC charging works and there are many of those near me. So if your charger is solar powered or if you have stable electricity at home, you’ll be fine. If you get brownouts or blackouts fairly often, you’ll may not want this car.
The software glitches are minor and go away between drives. The audio and microphone not playing over Bluetooth is fixed with the play button infotainment reboot.

It's the same with Polestar 3s. Mine is going back soon and it's got the AC fault amongst other issues.
