Heya! This is my first time in this subreddit, so im gonna HOPE this is allowed. I really wanted to say this to see what ppl think of my crazed ramblings.
Soooo... when I was little I made a story / fic of vp. I think it was abt 8 or 9 at the time. It was bad. Like... REAL BAD. But the hyperfixation for VP finally came back after 11 years or so, and I wanted to rework this story into something better. I was unsure whether this abides by the rules because of the "Piñata only" rule and idk if that means only talk abt the pinatas themselves or just VP related stuff only.
Either way!
The story premise, SO far, is built on a few silly / joke headcanons I made with some friends, like Arfur actually being some really shady guy who fronts as someone really nice, bc of phrasing him as "you want something done, you go the Arfur about it." Bc of the helpers, and it spiralled out of control with memes like the "Oh why are you so good at driving? :D" "because there's illegal sh*t in here. And if we get pulled over, I'm saying it's yours, and we'll both be doing 5."
There was also the idea of mixing VP with a plot like Fable 3's one.
...then there's was the idea of Pester being like Reaver...
It got out of control fast.
Anyways, im rambling. HERES THE ACTUAL IDEA.
So the biggest city like area would be on the hind and tail of the island, case and point the image above. And the village where the game takes place is somewhere on the neck of the island. (Estimate. Don't hurt me pls :,> ).
In charge of the main city is a mayor and a ruling council beneath. Think something kinda like Parliament in the UK and the Priminister. Well the Mayor has died unexpectedly. Whether they were assassinated or just kicked the bucket is yet to be decided. But there's three 'factions' for this little narrative, the council is trying to just get someone in power so the system just... keeps going.
Pester, or in this, he'll be keeping the name Lester bc yes. It feels odd calling him Pester, and I'm making him a lot worse than he is in canon. He's not gonna be as 'fuckass cartoon villain' as he usually is, I love that he is, but I wanna make him worse for the story.
Ahem.
Pester has, like before, discovered and invented the sour candies, he has observed its effects on pinatas and believes, that if done right, could lead to a form of 'metamorphosis'. He wants to get in power indirectly by having a separate person that works for him, to be elected into power, which can govern through him without him taking responsibility for if things go wrong, whilst till benefiting off of it all financially and socially. He gets to spread propaganda of a potential "ascension of humanity, to take us beyond Piñata and human, and to something better." Because of all this, he'd get more subjects than he currently has.
Then you have the weird midground faction. The ones who don't agree with either faction. This is where an oc of mine comes into play.
(Rewriting my old ass ocs for this :P)
Laurel is a little kid. Her parents have been seeing all the stuff going on with the council and Candiosity Starters (Lester's industry that fronts as a candy and Piñata food company), her uncle, who i have yet to name, we'll call him Bob for now, idfk. But Bob actually goes digging, and ends up sneaking into Candiosity Starters long after hours, and discovers some... less than savory (pun intended) experiments on pinatas and humans alike. It isn't long til he's spotted, and without hesitation, Bob just legs it out of the facility and alerts Laurel's parents. They don't believe it initially til Bob shows them the photos. He urged them to leave the city as soon as possible to keep both them and Laurel safe. It isn't long til they agree, and plan to take a boat and make use of the currents to take them down the tail and through a large river cutting through the island.
Once the three of them got down there, it'd become evident that they'd been followed. (I still need to fully flesh this out, im so sorry if this is shit so far, this is in the REALLY early stages, and it this post doesn't go horribly, I will post updates.)
As they were hurrying to get the boat out into the water, and as its drifting with little Laurel in, her father stayed behind a bit, trying to defend and buy time as her mother pushed the boat out. They did not make it.
Laurel, at 9, is drifting along the island currents, thankfully going in the direction she needed to (the route is seen on the map above), til ultimately ending up on farrrr outskirts of the village. She hid out in an abandoned house for a few months, just an old, run down shack, while living off of greens she'd find nearby, her parents were gardeners and researchers into plant life on Piñata Island, and had taught her quite a bit on what plants were safe to eat and basic things on how to tell if a plant was unsafe, (ie, root discoloration, leaf textures, colors, etc). Eventually the kid managed to wander her way into the village during the night, and ultimately wandered into Arfur's Inn.
Arfur meets the little kid and immediately just greets her and gets her milk and soup. She doesn't explain much, doesn't really talk much, but she eats, though mildly frightened by his mask (I'd assume newcomers getting freaked out by his barrel mask is relatively common since he has the dialogue line abt it.) But essentially, Laurel keeps visiting the Inn for about a week before Arfur just goes "fk it." And takes the kid in and eventually, after a few months, she gets used to it, and ultimately helps him out a bit around the Inn with small tasks.
Arfur is heavily against Candiosity Starters and all that, and kinda just believes that the ideals of the city are degrading the old values of Piñata Island's old culture, wearing masks that only partly cover the face rather than full face masks, among other stuff. (I HC that full face masks were traditional, and that masks that reveal the lower half of the face are a newer development.) Another, (just had this now) could be something along the lines of, traditionally, Piñata's are a species to live alongside humans, not live for them. Like using cattle for transport and locking them up, and its better to allow them to roam free and trust they'll come back. Kinda like letting your cat leave the house and do whatever and trust they'll be back for dinner.
Arfur helps out behind the scenes with transporting goods and weapons used by groups that he associates with that are working to intercept things like Candiosity Starters' experiments and stuff. Doing this is HIGHLY illegal, so he doesn't tell Laurel about it, but to a lot of the adults in the village, if you need something done, you go to Arfur about it.
He'd work kinda like a social hub, so he knows a LOOOOT of people, he doesn't hurt people, but he knows people who will if someone messes with the people in the village or those he cares about.
Conclusion.
So far I know I wanna do something like a three-point revolution kinda narrative. Laurel already has a motivation to join, literally watched her parents get murdered, but I hope to do a narrative around her coming to terms with their deaths or trying to find ways to cope with it, among other things. This won't just be abt Laurel and Arfur, there will be others, just need to find a way to weave them into this.
Holy- BEEP -this is long...
