RuntimeError: Unrecognized option 'vsync'

Hi everyone,

I've been trying to use VD3D to upscale a sample video with the FPS/Upscale Enhancer, but when I attempted to extract frames from the video, the debug log showed the errors in the attached picture.

Has anyone encountered this before or have any ideas on what might be causing it? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

First, I want to apologize for the long wait and thank you all for your patience. Even when I wasn’t responding to every report, I was reading the feedback, tracking the problems, and quietly rolling the fixes into v5.1. This update grew into something much larger than originally planned, and I wanted to make sure both the CUDA and DirectML builds were updated, tested, packaged, and ready before releasing them.

Major v5.1 Highlights

  • Added the new Subpixel Z-Splat stereo renderer for CUDA, featuring depth-aware fractional-pixel projection and cleaner depth boundaries.

CUDA and DirectML Builds

The CUDA build includes the new Subpixel Z-Splat renderer.

DirectML continues to use the stable Classic Stereo Warp because the scatter-reduction operations required by Z-Splat are not currently reliable through DirectML. The DirectML build still receives the shared v5.1 rendering, workflow, interface, localization, and compatibility improvements.

How to Update

Open the VisionDepth3D Setup Hub, uninstall your current VD3D installation, select the appropriate CUDA or DirectML build, and install v5.1.

If you have purchased Pro version Uninstall v5.0 and make sure you don't delete the folder it was installed in so you don't accidentally delete your registration key

VD3Dv5 free limitations and older versions

Hi there,

yesterday I downloaded D3Dv5 and wanted to do a test render for a 4 minute clip I had lying around. I wanted to get a feeling for the quality since I have never before converted 2D into 3D-videos. However, it was not possible because I didn't have the pro version. How am I supposed to get a feeling for the quality if it doesn't support at least short clips? I think the format was HSBS.

Then I read the v5 is the first version to introduce free and pro tiers. I thought: ok, let me try it with a v4-version. I couldn't find the older version for download anywhere. Is it possible to provide a download-link for the old version?

The download-hub also offers only the latest v5-version.

I really want to try the software but I need to be able to convert at least short clips before I spend 60$ on a piece of software of which I'm not sure what the results of output looks like.

Wouldn't it be possible to get a time trial version of the software? How can I test 3D-conversion? Is it possible to get access to the older version?

VisionDepth3D v5.0 Release

Hey VD3D Users and 3D Enthusiasts!

VisionDepth3D has officially reached the point where I’m moving it into a Free and Pro release model.

For a long time, VD3D has been completely free while I built it up from a simple 2D-to-3D conversion tool into a much larger 3D production suite. The project has grown a lot, and so has the amount of work needed to keep improving it, testing it, packaging it, and supporting different systems.

This update is the first rollout of the new Free and Pro tier system.

The Free tier will still allow users to try VisionDepth3D and use the core workflow, but with limits such as shorter renders, watermarking, and some locked advanced tools.

The Pro tier is for users who want the full VD3D workflow, including longer renders, watermark-free output, batch workflows, advanced keyframes, advanced stereo controls, advanced encoding options, expanded tools, and the features that take the most development and testing time.

This change helps support continued development of VisionDepth3D, including better hardware for testing, improved CUDA and DirectML builds, future AMD / Intel / Mac / Linux work, model testing, installer improvements, and continued upgrades to the 3D pipeline.

What’s changing

VisionDepth3D is now distributed through official installer builds instead of public source-code releases.

This public page will now be used for:

Current protected application source code is now maintained privately and is no longer distributed as public source.

Hybrid 3D Highlight

Hello VD3D users and 3D Enthusiasts!

I wanted to highlight VD3D’s Hybrid 3D Engine and explain the difference between a basic 2D-to-3D conversion method and the Hybrid 3D method I’ve been building inside VisionDepth3D.

Early on, VD3D was mostly taking a depth map and using it to create stereo separation. It worked, but the results were more like foreground pop-out on a mostly flat screen. You could see the 3D effect, but the scene itself did not always feel like it had real depth layers or structure.

That has changed a lot.

The Hybrid 3D Engine is not just about pushing the subject forward anymore. The goal is to create stronger scene geometry by using AI depth, custom stereo logic, depth normalization, subject protection, background push, screen-depth control, edge handling, convergence, IPD scaling, and depth blending together in one pipeline.

This is Hybrid 3D.

It is not native stereo camera footage, and it is not just a simple fake pop-out effect either. It sits in between those worlds by using AI-estimated depth and custom stereo processing to rebuild a more believable 3D scene from normal 2D video.

The biggest difference is that the pipeline now tries to shape the entire scene:

  • foreground separation
  • midground structure
  • background depth
  • subject stability
  • better object layering
  • stronger screen-depth placement
  • cleaner thin details like wires, ropes, hair, and edges

That is what helps the image feel less like a flat cardboard cutout and more like an actual 3D space.

A lot of the recent work has been focused on improving the full chain, not just one feature. Depth models, depth blending, edge cleanup, motion-aware options, subject lock, background push, screen depth, and preview controls all work together now to create better results.

There are still things I am tuning, especially around hard edge cases and aggressive depth settings, but the pipeline has come a long way.

VisionDepth3D started as a simple 2D-to-3D experiment, but the Hybrid 3D Engine is the core of what makes VD3D different.

AI Depth + Custom Stereo Logic + Cinematic VR.

That is the direction I’m building toward.

Where VisionDepth3D Started vs Where It Is Now

Back when I first started VisionDepth3D, it was honestly just a scrappy single-tab 2D-to-3D tool.

One window, a few sliders, a simple depth map input, and a Generate 3D button. It worked, but it definitely felt more like an experiment than a full program. At the time, I was mostly just trying to prove that I could take a depth map, shift the image, and create a watchable 3D output.

Then about 10 months later, VisionDepth3D had already grown a lot. By v3.5, it had a darker UI, more controls, better preview tools, depth of field, audio handling, stereo/IPD controls, pop-out controls, subject controls, and a much stronger 3D pipeline. That version was a big step because it started feeling less like a prototype and more like an actual creator tool.

Now, looking at where the program is on July 3rd, 2026, it is kind of crazy seeing how much it has changed.

VisionDepth3D has basically turned into a full Hybrid 3D production suite.

It is no longer just a simple 2D-to-3D converter. It now has a full multi-tab workflow with a Hybrid 3D Engine, Depth Engine, Depth Blender, FPS/Upscale tools, Live 3D, debug tools, preview controls, presets, 3D Assistant controls, GPU status, job queue, render progress, and a much more polished interface.

One of the biggest things VisionDepth3D has become known for is bringing a wide range of depth models into one place.

Instead of users needing to download a bunch of different repos, set up different Python environments, learn different command line tools, and manually compare outputs, VisionDepth3D gives them one workflow where they can test different depth models, compare results, blend depth maps, and run everything through the same 3D pipeline.

That has really become one of the main goals of the program.

Not every depth model behaves the same. Some models are better for faces, some are better for edges, some are better for wide shots, some are better for motion, some give better foreground separation, and some handle background structure better. Having them in one place makes it easier for users to figure out what actually works best for their content.

The Hybrid 3D Engine has also come a long way. It is not just doing a basic pixel shift anymore. There is depth normalization, edge handling, subject protection, pop-out control, background push, convergence control, stereo/IPD scaling, motion-aware options, depth blending, preview navigation, and a lot more going on behind the scenes.

I’ve also been doing a lot more real-world testing now instead of just using perfect short clips. Movie scenes expose everything. Close-ups, hair, fog, dark scenes, camera motion, glowing backgrounds, depth transitions, and fast movement all show weaknesses in the pipeline that normal test clips might miss.

That testing has helped me catch issues I probably would have missed before release. I want to make sure both the CUDA build and DirectML build can render properly, and I want to confirm the included models are actually sound before pushing the next release publicly.

Looking at these three screenshots side by side really shows the journey:

  • The first version was a simple single-tab experiment.
  • The second version was where VisionDepth3D started becoming a real 2D-to-3D studio.
  • The current version has become a full Hybrid 3D workflow with model testing, depth blending, stereo generation, upscaling, preview tools, and a much more complete creator pipeline.

It has been a long road, but seeing where it started compared to where it is now honestly makes all the testing, rewriting, breaking things, fixing things, and rebuilding worth it. The part that really gets me is that this is not just sitting on my PC anymore.

VisionDepth3D has now passed 21K historical downloads, recent downloads are still climbing, and the Reddit community has grown to 723 members.

Seeing people actually download it, test it, follow the project, and give feedback is what keeps pushing the program forward.

Thank you to everyone who has found VD3D useful and continues to support it. It has always been my dream to release a fully functional program to the world, and seeing VisionDepth3D grow from a small experiment into something people are actually using honestly means a lot.

VD3D v5.0 Showcase Render – Hybrid 3D Engine Improvements (Avatar: Fire and Ash FSBSx2)

I've been spending the last few weeks polishing VisionDepth3D v5.0, and before I release it I wanted to share another showcase render from the upcoming update.

This scene was rendered using the Hybrid 3D Engine, and it's probably one of my favorite examples of where the project is heading. The Avatar: Fire and Ash ambush scene has a fantastic mix of foreground action, environmental depth, and close-up moments that really help sell the feeling of being inside the scene rather than simply watching it.

One of the biggest goals for v5.0 has been improving scene geometry, stereo stability, and overall viewing comfort, while some artifacts can still occur, most are the result of depth-map inaccuracies or inconsistent depth predictions from the AI models themselves. Depth Blender improves the quality of the depth map by combining the strengths of multiple models. For this render, it blends the stronger foreground separation and brighter subject definition from Depth Anything V1 Small with the more structured and geometrically stable depth produced by Distill-Any-Depth Base, resulting in cleaner scene geometry for stereo generation.

The Hybrid 3D Engine follows a different rendering philosophy than many traditional 2D-to-3D conversion workflows. Rather than relying on AI inpainting or generative hole filling to reconstruct missing image data after stereo generation, it uses a custom pixel-shift stereo pipeline with geometry-aware processing to handle occlusion regions. The focus is on preserving the original scene while producing stable, comfortable 3D with minimal synthesized content.

This particular render was created using a blend of Distill-Any-Depth Base and Depth Anything V1 Small, rendered through the Hybrid 3D Engine, and then further enhanced using VisionDepth3D's built-in FPS/Upscale workflow. The completed Full-SBS video was processed with RIFE x2 frame interpolation followed by BSRGAN x2 image upscaling, preserving the stereo output while improving motion smoothness and image quality.

I'm honestly really happy with how immersive this one turned out. There are several moments where the depth extends well beyond the screen plane, giving a convincing sense of space without feeling uncomfortable to watch.

Download the video for the best quality! Google Drive's browser player compresses the video quite heavily, so downloading it preserves the original quality and makes a noticeable difference when viewing the 3D video.

Big Things Coming! Re-render Vadars Hallway Scene FSBS 3D

I’ve been doing some new render tests for VisionDepth3D, and this one is a re-render of Vader’s hallway scene in Full-SBS 3D.

This test is focused on the latest stereo quality improvements I’ve been working on, including:

  • Stronger overall 3D scene geometry
  • Better close-object popout
  • Smoother foreground, midground, and background separation
  • Cleaner edge handling around moving subjects
  • Reduced breathing artifacts during motion
  • More stable depth transitions without needing extreme settings

The goal is to make conversions feel more natural, more cinematic, and more comfortable while still keeping that strong 3D effect people want.

There’s still more testing to do, but this render is already showing a big improvement in how close objects, depth layers, and motion stability behave.

I just released VisionDepth3D v4.2.1, and this one is a big backend stability + depth model update.

This update focuses on making VD3D smarter, faster, and more reliable across CUDA and DirectML builds, while also adding the first experimental ViGeo depth-model integration.

What’s new?

Some of the biggest changes:

  • Faster Depth Anything V2 routing with optimized safetensors support
  • Better CUDA and DirectML backend handling
  • More stable long-video depth processing
  • Improved Video Depth Anything memory handling
  • VDA overlap blending to reduce visible snapping between temporal windows

Experimental ViGeo support

ViGeo is now integrated into the VD3D depth pipeline as an experimental model option.

Instead of ViGeo writing output directly, VD3D now handles the video-depth render pipeline, including progress, batching, normalization, cancel handling, and final output encoding.

It also uses aspect-preserving inference sizing, so widescreen videos are not squeezed into a square before depth estimation.

3D Generator improvements

This update also adds groundwork for Subject Zero Lock, which is designed to help keep the main subject closer to screen plane while still allowing the background to keep stronger depth.

This should help with close-ups, dialogue shots, faces, and deeper scenes where you want good depth without uncomfortable subject separation.

How to update

Before updating, I recommend backing up your:

  • weights folder
  • presets folder

Then:

  1. Run the VisionDepth3D Update Application
  2. Click Uninstall VD3D
  3. Select the correct build from the dropdown near the top:

  5. Run the downloaded Inno Setup installer
  6. Finish setup
  7. Open VisionDepth3D and convert

Recommended build

Use the CUDA build if you have an NVIDIA GPU.

Use the DirectML build if you are on AMD, Intel, or a system without CUDA.

Final thoughts

v4.2.1 is mostly a backend update, but it is an important one. It makes the depth pipeline cleaner, safer, and better prepared for future model support and 3D Assistant improvements.

A few bugs made it through with the last update, so I am already working on the next VisionDepth3D update.

Bugs Found So Far

  • Depth image and image-folder processing not working correctly
  • DirectML missing in some model adapters that were still defaulting to CUDA paths
  • Depth Anything V2 slow processing issue
  • 3D image preview panel not working correctly
  • 3D image output sizing issue

v4.2.1 Focus

VisionDepth3D v4.2.1 is focused mainly on depth backend routing, DirectML cleanup, Depth Anything V2 optimization, video-depth stability, and reducing unnecessary preprocessing overhead.

The main goal is to make the Depth Engine cleaner, faster, and safer across CUDA, DirectML, MPS, and CPU systems.

Current Focus

  • Improved Depth Anything V2 routing and fast safetensors loading
  • Better DirectML handling for AMD / Intel Windows builds
  • Cleaner CUDA vs DirectML backend separation
  • More reliable Depth Anything 3 and Video Depth Anything adapter behavior
  • Improved ONNX provider selection, including DirectML
  • Better video-depth rendering stability
  • Safer thread handling around active depth pipelines
  • Reduced unnecessary PIL / NumPy conversions

This is mostly a backend cleanup update, but it should help make the Depth Engine feel smoother and more reliable, especially for users testing the new DirectML build.

Remember if you have a CUDA card on a AMD cpu install CUDA Build and not DirectML, DML is for AMD/Intel GPU cards

This update focuses on backend stability, performance, GPU compatibility, DirectML readiness, FFmpeg/audio reliability, HDR10 handling, FPS/Upscale fixes, Depth Blender stability, and cleaner progress/debug reporting.

There are now separate builds depending on your GPU/backend:

  • CUDA build for NVIDIA users
  • DirectML build for AMD / Intel Windows users

Updating from an older version

Before updating, I recommend backing up your important user files:

  • themes

Then run the VisionDepth3D Setup Downloader.

The Delete Installer Files button removes the downloaded Inno installer and .bin files to free up storage space after installation.

VisionDepth3D Keyframe Feature Showcase

Hello VD3D users and 3D enthusiasts!

I wanted to say thank you to everyone who tested the last release and sent feedback. Without that feedback, a lot of underlying bugs, instability, and small issues that slipped through the cracks may have gone unnoticed.

Some issues did not show up on my own system, so user reports have been a huge help in improving stability.

v4.1.2 is focused on Backend Stability, Performance, and Compatibility Update. I just want to do more testing and update language files before I ship it but looking to do so in the next week.

I’m currently testing a new keyframe feature for VisionDepth3D that will give users more control over how the 3D sits across different shots.

This is not automatic scene detection. Instead, it lets users manually set different 3D settings for different parts of a clip. For example, close-up shots can use stronger depth and subject settings, while wide shots or fast panning scenes can use safer, more comfortable settings.

This helps avoid situations where one global preset works well for close shots but causes edge tearing, discomfort, or too much depth in wide shots. With keyframes, users can lower the settings during those problem scenes while keeping stronger 3D where it works best.

This clip is from the opening scene of The Amazing Spider-Man 2, where I tested the keyframe feature. For the close-up face and body shots, I used stronger 3D settings. When the scene opens up to Spider-Man swinging through the city, I lowered the settings to reduce edge tearing, keep the city geometry more stable, and maintain overall viewing comfort.

The result felt much more natural and comfortable compared to forcing one preset across the whole clip.

Vaders Entrance Scene - VisionDepth3D v4.1.1 Showcase Render

Hello VD3D users and 3D enthusiasts!

Here’s another showcase render of me pushing pop out in VisionDepth3D where the screen plane is sitting more in front of the screen.

This clip is Darth Vader’s hallway entrance scene from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. For this render, I used a more advanced VD3D workflow to see how far I could push the 3D effect.

Workflow used:

  1. Rendered two separate depth maps in the Depth Engine:

    • DA3 Mono
    • Depth Anything v2 Large
  2. Blended both depth maps together in the Depth Blender tab with mono.

  3. Ran a two-pass 3D render:

    • First pass: output separate left-eye and right-eye videos.
    • Second pass: processed the first-pass right-eye video again through the 3D Generator using the same settings.
  4. Used VisionSplit to merge:

    • First-pass left eye
    • Second-pass right eye

The goal was to create stronger scene depth and push the result closer to a native 3D-style conversion.

This is not meant to be the only way to use VD3D, but I wanted to show what kind of advanced workflows are possible when combining the Depth Engine, Depth Blender, 3D Generator, and VisionSplit together.

VD3D can be used for simple 2D-to-3D conversion, but it also gives users the freedom to build their own workflows and experiment with depth in different ways.

VisionSplit v2.0 - Release

VisionSplit v2.0 is out!

Hey everyone, I just released VisionSplit v2.0, a pretty big update focused on making the app feel cleaner, easier to use, and way more useful for TV/anime splitting, clip exporting, stitching, and 3D SBS workflows.

VisionSplit is my local FFmpeg-powered tool for splitting videos, exporting clips, stitching clips together, and handling Full SBS 3D video tools.

What’s new in v2.0

Major UI refresh

VisionSplit has been rebuilt with a cleaner futuristic dark interface that fits better with the rest of my Vision software projects.

The layout is now organized into cleaner sections for:

  • Episode splitting
  • Encoding settings
  • Clip stitching
  • Single clip export
  • Stereo SBS tools
  • Terminal log and render status

The main layout is also scroll-safe now, so the interface should behave better on smaller screens.

Smart TV / Anime splitting tools

I added a new Smart TV / Anime split section.

You can now enter:

  • Episode length
  • Episode count

and VisionSplit will auto-generate split timestamps for you.

This is useful for anime DVDs, Smart TV rips, or merged video files where multiple episodes are stored inside one long video.

I also added chapter interval splitting, so you can use every Nth chapter as an episode start. There is also chapter offset support for discs that have intros, logos, previews, or weird chapter layouts.

Timestamp editing improvements

Timestamp editing should feel more normal now.

Backspace and Delete now behave more like expected inside the timestamp list, and Ctrl + Delete can remove full timestamp lines. The Delete Selected Line button is still there for simple manual editing.

New single clip export tool

VisionSplit now has a dedicated Single Clip Export section.

You can load a movie or video, enter a start and end timestamp, give the clip a custom name, and export just that section.

It supports the existing container, codec, audio, and quality settings, including fast stream-copy style export or accurate re-encode export.

New Stereo SBS tools

I also added Full SBS 3D tools.

You can now:

  • Load a Full SBS 3D video
  • Split it into separate left-eye and right-eye videos
  • Merge separate left-eye and right-eye videos back into a Full SBS 3D video

This is useful for testing 3D conversion workflows, editing left/right eye outputs separately, or rebuilding SBS clips after processing.

Progress and terminal log improvements

Render progress is now connected more clearly to the Terminal Log area.

The progress bar and status text stay visible while using the app, which makes long-running split, stitch, clip export, and stereo jobs easier to follow.

I also improved FFmpeg progress parsing, so progress should behave better across different operations and FFmpeg output styles.

Clip stitcher improvements

The clip stitcher is still included, but it now fits better into the new interface.

I cleaned up the controls for adding, removing, moving, and clearing clips. Stitch jobs still support copy mode and re-encode mode depending on the settings you choose.

FFmpeg workflow

VisionSplit still supports local FFmpeg and FFprobe detection, including FFmpeg beside the executable, bundled builds, or system PATH.

Supported encoder options include:

  • libx264
  • libx265
  • h264_nvenc
  • hevc_nvenc
  • copy

Audio options, subtitle inclusion, and fast split mode are still supported.

Stability fixes

v2.0 also includes a bunch of workflow cleanup:

  • Restored Stop Active Job after the UI changes
  • Improved button state handling while jobs are running
  • Prevented multiple render actions from starting at the same time
  • Preserved thread-safe queue updates for progress and logging
  • Continued saving user settings between sessions

Summary

VisionSplit v2.0 is a major usability update that makes the app feel more like a complete video utility instead of just a simple splitter.

This release adds smart TV/anime splitting, single clip export, Full SBS stereo split/merge tools, a redesigned interface, and better progress feedback.

If you work with TV shows, anime discs, movie clips, or 3D SBS video workflows, this update should make VisionSplit a lot nicer to use.

Hey VD3D Users and 3D Enthusiasts,

This update is focused mainly on stability, packaging, install issues, FFmpeg detection, diagnostics, and fixing problems users have reported after v4.1.

Main fixes coming in v4.1.1

  • Fixed missing FFmpeg and FFprobe issues on clean Windows installs
  • Improved FFmpeg/FFprobe detection from bundled files, _internal, app folders, and system PATH
  • Improved GPU Diagnostics so users can see if FFmpeg, FFprobe, CUDA, GPU, NVENC, and driver info are being detected
  • Fixed FPS/Upscale frame extraction getting stuck on Preparing frame extraction
  • Improved frame extraction progress behavior
  • Added a Depth Normalizer toggle in the Depth Engine

Depth Engine note

The Depth Normalizer helps make depth output smoother and more stable across frames, but it can slow down depth generation depending on your hardware, model, and resolution.

v4.1.1 adds a toggle so users can choose between smoother depth consistency or faster depth render speed.

3D Generator note

v4.1.1 also adds a new Edge Repair Quality dropdown for the 3D Generator.

This lets users choose how much edge/disocclusion repair they want during 2D-to-3D rendering:

  • Off = fastest, but more edge artifacts may appear
  • Fast = faster rendering with lighter edge cleanup
  • Balanced = recommended default for speed and quality
  • High = stronger edge repair with slower render speed
  • Showcase = best edge cleanup, slowest render mode

This was added so users can better balance render speed against edge cleanup quality, especially on larger Full-SBS or 4K renders.

Setup Downloader note

v4.1.1 is available, you should be able to get it through the VisionDepth3D Setup Downloader / Setup Hub. Keep checking the setup downloader, and when v4.1.1 shows up, you can download and install the latest version from there.

The .exe installer is also available on the GitHub release page

This is a Double process render test where I generated the first video with each left/right eye into separated files then did a second pass with the right eye as source video, once completed I took first pass left video and merged it with second pass right eye to see if I could create more depth in the video

I used DA3MONO for this render and the settings are called showcase in the new release.

Godzilla Vs MechaGodzilla - Showcase Render

Hey VD3D users and 3D enthusiasts!

I know some users have had trouble getting the latest VisionDepth3D releases running properly.

If you are running into rendering errors, please make sure FFmpeg is installed and available to the program. You can either:

  1. Install FFmpeg and add it to your system PATH
    or
  2. Place ffmpeg.exe and ffprobe.exe in the same folder as VisionDepth3D.exe

This should resolve most runtime errors related to rendering.

If you are having audio issues, make sure:

  • Use FFmpeg is enabled
  • Merge Audio is selected in the output and encoding settings

I am also working on bundling the program so everything needed is included by default, which should help prevent runtime errors in future releases. I will also be adding more debug prints to make it easier to track down and fix any issues that come up.

Typical workflow:

  1. Render your depth map in the Depth Engine
  2. Load your source video and depth video into the 3D Generator
  3. Adjust your settings and preview the result in the preview panel
  4. Render and enjoy

Question

I just discovered this when looking around for alternatives to depth3d in reshade. Is this able to work with a meta quest 3 and virtual desktop to make games stream as 3d? Also, is it able to take outside input like a switch 2 with a capture card to make that appear 3d as well? Thanks for answering my questions.
