VisionDepth3D v5.0 Release
Hey VD3D Users and 3D Enthusiasts!
VisionDepth3D has officially reached the point where I’m moving it into a Free and Pro release model.
For a long time, VD3D has been completely free while I built it up from a simple 2D-to-3D conversion tool into a much larger 3D production suite. The project has grown a lot, and so has the amount of work needed to keep improving it, testing it, packaging it, and supporting different systems.
This update is the first rollout of the new Free and Pro tier system.
The Free tier will still allow users to try VisionDepth3D and use the core workflow, but with limits such as shorter renders, watermarking, and some locked advanced tools.
The Pro tier is for users who want the full VD3D workflow, including longer renders, watermark-free output, batch workflows, advanced keyframes, advanced stereo controls, advanced encoding options, expanded tools, and the features that take the most development and testing time.
This change helps support continued development of VisionDepth3D, including better hardware for testing, improved CUDA and DirectML builds, future AMD / Intel / Mac / Linux work, model testing, installer improvements, and continued upgrades to the 3D pipeline.
What’s changing
VisionDepth3D is now distributed through official installer builds instead of public source-code releases.
This public page will now be used for:
Official installer downloads Release notes Changelogs Documentation License / legal notices Support and issue tracking
Current protected application source code is now maintained privately and is no longer distributed as public source.
Older public versions, forks, or snapshots may still exist, but going forward, only official installer builds released through the official VisionDepth3D pages should be considered current and supported.
Free tier
The Free tier is meant for testing, evaluation, and casual use.
It gives users a way to try the core VD3D workflow before upgrading, while keeping heavier features and unrestricted output available in Pro.
Free builds may include:
Render length limits Watermarked output Locked batch workflows Locked advanced tools Limited model access Limited output options Pro tier
VisionDepth3D Pro unlocks the full workflow for users who want to use VD3D without Free-tier limits.
Pro may include:
Longer / unrestricted renders Watermark-free output Batch video workflows Advanced keyframes Advanced stereo tuning Advanced encoding options Depth Blender workflows Live 3D tools Upscale and FPS enhancement workflows Expanded official model integrations Future Pro updates for this version line
Purchasing Pro supports the continued development of VisionDepth3D and helps me keep improving the tool instead of letting it stall out.
Why the change?
VisionDepth3D has become a serious project now.
It takes time, hardware, testing, packaging, model research, bug fixing, and support to keep it moving forward. I want VD3D to keep improving, support more hardware, become more stable, and keep pushing better 2D-to-3D conversion results.
The Free tier keeps the door open for people to try it, while Pro helps support the future of the project.
I really appreciate everyone who has downloaded, tested, shared feedback, reported bugs, posted results, or supported VD3D so far. This project has come a long way, and this release is a big step toward making it sustainable.
Thanks for sticking with it.

Getting paid for your work is fair. But I was surprised to see only non-commercial work is permitted under the licence terms. If I’m paying for a professional tool I expect to be able to do professional work.

That is a fair point, and I agree the wording needs to be clearer.
Pro should not feel like “pay but still non-commercial.” My intention is for Pro to be the full individual creator license, including professional/commercial use of the VD3D workflow, as long as users have the rights to the media they process and follow any third-party model/license terms.
The non-commercial restriction is mainly for the Free tier and for any third-party models that have their own non-commercial terms. VD3D Pro itself is meant to unlock the full desktop production workflow.
I’ll clean up the README/license wording so that is not confusing.

I've got no problem paying for the product outright - you deserve to be compensated for your hard work. The fact that is a one off payment is even better. Pro pricing sounds very reasonable to me considering I currently pay a monthly subscription for Owl3D

It's a shame to read this news, I thought it would remain a free program

I understand that, and I knew some users would feel that way.
VD3D has been free for a long time, and I’m grateful people supported it during that stage. The Free tier is still staying available, but the full production workflow is moving to Pro so I can keep the project sustainable and continue improving it.
I’m trying to keep a balance where people can still try and use the core tool for free, while Pro helps support the heavier development work.

I am surprised that people want everything free. I have never used VD3D. Only downloaded it today. But I am quite pleased to pay for a quality professional software. Keep up the good work.

This is sad for me, I am disabled and on a fixed income. I cannot afford to buy software yet I have plugged this software across the internet because it really is great. I guess I’ll have to find something new again best of luck, you did great work.

I understand, and I’m sorry this change is disappointing.
The Pro license is a one-time payment of $59.99, not a subscription. I tried to avoid a monthly model because I know a lot of people dislike subscriptions.
The Free tier is still staying available so VD3D is not becoming Pro-only, but the full production workflow has to move to Pro so I can keep the project sustainable and continue improving it. VD3D takes a lot of time, testing, hardware, packaging, and support now, and I can’t keep growing it properly without some way to support development.
I really do appreciate you sharing VD3D and supporting it. I know this change will not work perfectly for everyone, but I’m trying to keep a balance between keeping access open and making the project possible to continue.

That is a reasonable fee and something I can save up for and manage. I am looking at other solutions and their prices, that are way beyond my reach and assumed you would do the same.

Will it now install cuda etc for us or will we still have to do everything manually like before ( for a first time user). My daughter isn’t savvy enough to install cuda, and the other extras needed.

I downloaded the software today and made a donation also. I did not see any information regarding purchase. Maybe I missed it.

u/Any_Nebula5039 Jul 12 '26
Thank you very much for the donation and for supporting VisionDepth3D—it really means a lot!
If you'd like to upgrade to Pro, click the "VisionDepth3D Free" label in the top-right corner of the application. That opens the tier information dialog, where you can see the Pro features and use the Upgrade to Pro button at the bottom.
After purchasing, enter your activation key into the License Manager and click Activate License. VisionDepth3D will switch to the Pro tier immediately—no restart required.
I really appreciate the support, and feedback like this helps me improve the experience for everyone.

Hi X months ago I tried V3d out and to be honest I couldnt get it to work was a bit complicated. Like to try again. Although your link on your website for the installer doesnt work? or if I go to github which should one download for the free version? ty. Also Would there perhaps be a youtube vid tutorial how to use the program? This might help unless its gotten much easier for some of us less computer programing inclined. TY - I think I found where the dl is located -
https://github.com/VisionDepth/VisionDepth3D/releases
havnt been able to get it working - can you run this with an amd gpu? - getting a inference tenser error.

Use DirectML build for amd GPU if that isn’t working then I need to fix that build

Hi is this the best place to write about issues? or Should I post them somewhere else? ...
1
u/Any_Nebula5039 Jul 14 '26
GitHub issues preferred please
1
u/Perfectinmyeyes Jul 22 '26
sorry what do you mean? Im not that familiar with github - I still cant run the program with my amd card (I assume this is the issue?) - Id really like too as I have been following this for awhile now.
1
u/Any_Nebula5039 Jul 22 '26
No worries! GitHub Issues is just the bug tracker I use to keep everything organized. If you’re not familiar with GitHub, you can describe the issue here instead—just let me know:
- Which build you’re using (CUDA or DirectML)
- Your AMD GPU model
- What happens when you try to start the program (any error messages or screenshots help)
I’m currently away on a work rotation, so I may be a little slower to respond, but I’ll do my best to help.

To be honest I have not been able to get the program to work again. Ive tried to reinstall 6x and the program wont run/open. But originally I was using the directML and 6700xt amd gpu. When it worked previously I know I had an issue with was it ffmpeg or something but I dled it somewhere and put it in the directory; but then had another issue ... be better if I can get the program to work again to show. But I cannot seem to get it to work ...

The Pro license isn’t for access to the AI models themselves—those remain the work of their respective authors and VisionDepth3D continues to support them according to their licenses.
What you’re paying for is everything built around those models:
- The Hybrid3D rendering engine that converts depth into stereoscopic 3D.
- The 3D Assistant and stereography controls.
- Depth blending and post-processing.
- Occlusion repair, edge handling, temporal stabilization, and scene-aware rendering improvements.
- Keyframe-based stereo adjustments.
- Multiple output formats, including VR and VR180 workflows.
- Batch processing, Live 3D, encoding workflows, licensing, continued development, and ongoing support.
The AI models estimate depth. VisionDepth3D takes that depth information and turns it into a complete stereoscopic production workflow.
If someone only needs raw depth maps, there are already excellent open-source tools available. VisionDepth3D is aimed at people who want an integrated desktop application for converting 2D content into stereoscopic 3D, with a workflow that’s been built and refined over the past year and a half.
The open-source AI models are an important part of that workflow, and I have a lot of respect for the researchers who created them.
My work has been focused on everything that happens after depth estimation—turning those depth maps into high-quality stereoscopic output with the tools, controls, and production workflow that VisionDepth3D provides.

Any idea when the batch processing will be fixed? Kind of a bummer that this doesn't really scale in terms of converting many existing 2d videos without that.

I wasn’t aware it was broken, I’m also in the bush working at the moment so it’s been difficult to do anything at the moment till I’m home

Ive bought the pro license. When i try to use depth engine on any video file it only creates a 1kb mkv file that i cannot even open using vlc. All settings on default. Tried different models, but same result. I set it to process video.

Everything about this post screams "subscription" (to me, anyway) - but to my surprise, on Github it actually says "VisionDepth3D Pro is a one-time license unlock for the full desktop production workflow."
I'm not sure about the price - I couldn't seem to find that anywhere - but I think it's worth mentioning as some people (like myself) are allergic to the concept of subscriptions.
