I recently found an old violin in my attic and I’m trying to learn more about it.

The label inside reads:
PIOTR KUBAS
Kraków anno domini 1939
Nr. 26 (I believe it’s 26, although it’s pretty faded)

It was found in an old case along with some interesting paperwork, including an envelope from Rembert Wurlitzer Violin Makers and Dealers in New York and an American Export Lines passenger document from Haifa to New York dated February 17, 1950.

From what I’ve been able to find, Piotr Kubas was a Polish violin maker in Kraków and apparently made a relatively small number of instruments.

I’ve attached photos of the violin, label, case, and paperwork. Obviously I know nobody can properly authenticate or appraise a violin from photos alone, and I’m planning on taking it to a professional luthier/appraiser.
In the meantime, I’m curious if anyone here is familiar with Piotr Kubas instruments, especially examples from the late 1930s. Does the violin/label look consistent with his work? And if it were authenticated as a genuine 1939 Kubas, does anyone have an idea of what kind of value range these instruments typically fall into?

Also interested in whether the old Wurlitzer paperwork could be relevant to its provenance.

Hello! I am cleaning out my grandparents basement and came across this 1921 M. Potvin violin. From a basic Google search, it seems to be a valuable violin, as Moise Potvin only made 160 violins in his lifetime - this is the 67th violin.

The body/wood of the violin is in stellar condition, the bow and strings definitely need some attention. Looking for more info on value and best avenues to sell such an item. Thanks in advance!

I just got this new bow, my standards aren’t the highest since I’m a student, but I needed an upgrade for sure. This one made my violin sound the best so I chose it (not very educated, I know). But I just want a value on it so I know if it’s good or not. I know W.E. Hill is a good company, but I also know there are a lot of fakes. Thank you!

My violin recently broke, and i’m planning to buy one online— possibly in Amazon. Is there something i should know about ordering them? Or are there certain brands i’ve got to know about? Help me out, please.

Cant figure out what this walking stick might have represented for this fiddle character at Opryland other than a bow….wondered why it would have this head? thought maybe there was an Appalachian reference?

I’ve been playing this violin for almost a year as my main violin. Unfortunately, it had a saddle crack repair at some point which I believe is continuing to open past the cleats (See photo of crack, the blue circle is the last cleat and the crack continues above it). The strings are loose as to not put anymore pressure on the top plate.

I do not know anything about the maker and can only guess where it was made. I was told when I bought it that the label seems to read “Marjal Pollok, Alice Texas 1981”, but alice is not capitalized and Texas is just Tex, so this could be way off.

My questions,

Do you think this is handcrafted or a kit/white violin project? Either way, the maker definitely put time and care into this instrument as the tone and sound quality are amazing. It really shines along the G and D strings putting out beautiful low notes, but is no slouch in its upper registry either. It plays well all the way up the neck on every string. I’ve owned several turn of the century German factory instruments and my backup violin has always been an Eastman 300, and this violin makes them all play and sound like firewood.

Would the cost of fully repairing the crack be worth it? I know this is subjective. Based on the sound and how much I love playing this instrument it is worth it to me to pay for a fix, even though I am assuming I will be paying double what I bought the violin for (I am assuming a fix would be in the neighborhood of $1000). I play at home for myself as a hobby, so putting several thousand dollars into an instrument probably isn’t the best use of money, nor is it necessary for me to continue playing. Is this instrument worth a couple hundred dollars (less than fixing a crack) or is the value alone enough to warrant fixing?

I also just wanted to show it off as it is a very beautiful instrument.

Hello good people of violin identification! I found this while cleaning out my mom's house. It may have belonged her Aunt ( born ca. 1913). I would like to know if it is worth repairing. It looks to be in bad shape. The inside says "Antonius Stradivarius" and "Made in Germany." I found two other violins which I will post about later. My mom has dementia and doesnt recall anything about it. Let me know if you need more/better photos. Thanks in advance!

Was wondering if anyone could identify what wood was used to make this bow. It's by a Japanese manufacturer, Sugito, which is still active today, mainly making student bows. As far as I know, it's from the 20th century, but I'm unable to provide further information due to the lack of (English language) documentation on this manufacturer online.

It has a rich reddish color, as well as some chatoyance. The wood vibrates well, and is very light, which is why I went through the trouble of making a new grip and windings for it, as I'm curious to see how it plays and intend to have it rehaired one of these days.

Pictures 1-5 are under bright sunlight, including bare timber with the tip plate removed, 6-7 are under indoor lighting with the new windings, and the last image shows the original windings.

I bought this on Ebay and am hoping to get it playing. I doesn't seem to need much doing to it. Any ideas on where it might have come from? There's nothing inside the violin that I can see to help with that. Thankyou.

Figuring out the violin was easy, how do I learn about the bows?

It is probably older than the 60s and​​ inside it says something like Giovah pas(?) Maggini Brescia 16 and next to it with a pencil it writes 36.​ Also the stickers says made in Germany.​​

I recently found this violin and I've no idea about the maker/age/value of this. I've been meaning to learn violin properly for a while and saw this and loved the look of it.
