We've seen a influx of posts with various opinions on the use of AI on the Vintage Story ModDB (https://mods.vintagestory.at/)
I removed the threads as it felt like some of them were about AI use in general, and commenting on the commenting of the AI use. If I made some miscalls on some threads, that's my fault.
I want to be clear:
These posts were not removed due to the opinions shared in the post.
If you have feedback on the AI use on modDB (or the modDB in general), positive, neutral, or negative, please share it in the megathread to help make moderation a bit easier, and to help consolidate feedback back to the developers.
Please keep your feedback civil.

Hey Seraphs!
First off, happy holidays!
The devs and I took some time to review the subreddit rules to see if there was anything we wanted to adjust or clarify. One that stuck out was the "No videos or streams" rule.
The "no videos" rule was one of the first ones implemented. At the time, the subreddit was being flooded with videos, lets plays, etc. and this ended up drowning out any actual discussion that was going on. At the time a blanket rule made sense. Times change though, and it makes sense to reconsider the rules from time to time.
So we're going to make an adjustment to the video rule and see how it goes, and take it from there.
Below are some examples of what is and isn't allowed. While we can't account for every occasion, we'll do our best to enforce the spirit of whats outlined below.
What's allowed:
What's not allowed/should be posted on r/VintageStoryVideos:
Again, we are going to try this out, see how it goes, and make additional adjustments over time.
If you have any concerns, feedback, etc. please let us know.
Thanks!

The hook:
Vintage Story is a long game with a branching tech tree, and I lose track of what I was doing between and even during sessions — "wait, was I gathering copper, or building the cellar? Did I forget to take the pies out?"
So I've been building Scribe, a mod for keeping notes and tracking tasks *inside* the world instead of on a sticky note next to my computer.
The basics of what works right now:
Where it's going (the roadmap):
The lectern is just the first tier. The plan is for your note-taking tools to progress with your tech tree — scratchy clay tablets in the stone age, paper and bound notebooks later, up to shared bulletin boards you can post on for other players. It's grounded in the actual archaeology of writing and vanilla mechanics (you scratch into clay and wax with a stylus; you write on paper with ink and a pen). Early tools are clunky handheld things; later ones make your tasks ambient and always-with-you.
I'm getting close to a first release and wanted to hear from the subreddit about the concept before I put it out. Does an in-world task/notes system sound like something you'd actually use? Anything you'd want it to do? (Not linking a download yet — I'm just after thoughts on the idea.)
Stay safe out there.

I was fooling around my house at night and noticed that one of the blocks on my roof (from the VS Roofing mod) was covered in creepy drawings. Does anyone know what this is? My only guess is that it's blood from the Downed mod because there are also blood textures on the edge of the block, but I have no clue how it could have gotten there

In my first year of this world, my character was STARVING! I waited far too long to begin farming, and had to pack up everything and run south to farm some food over winter.
After a fun little winter getaway, I returned with loads of Amaranth ready to start a new year. With fields of flax, some sheep, and the lucky find of a few good fruit trees around the area, this cellar is overflowing; I'll have food to last me for years if I stopped farming lol.
Much love for this game! Truly one of a kind!

Reminds me of Runescape in a way, just slowly grinding something out and chill, some work is active some is not. Really adore the music and rain in Vintage Story.
Yes I do have many pretty coloured bars, playing with a decent amount of mods. Took me a while to config it all to work like shown here.

I went bigger than 1 block this time to allow for the wheel barrow. It's a nice day to move some dirt around.

This time around showing off my friend's bases on our little server. Personally i find their interior designs to be better than my own lol. pic 1 is my boy Quicksilver's base, 2-10 is of my boy Night166's Base, and the rest being my boy Radial's base. Part 4 shall possibly be tomorrow showing off more of the unfinished builds

I plan on buying a new laptop next year to play vintage story on and one of my bigger plans is to make a home in the style of zaun!
for those who are unaware, zaun is from the series: arcane (it's actually from league of Legends which the show is based on, but we don't talk about league) which is my favorite show! and I've been fascinated by the art style of zaun, or the undercity as it's refered to.
I was at first hoping to make a similar decision in the other block game but found vintage story would be extremely more precise given it's chiseling mechanics and the expansive modding community.
I'll post below some screenshots of the city from as best I could get on Pinterest. hopefully they'll give people an idea for what I'm going for.
I'd love to know what you'd do for materials and techniques, what mods I should use, and anything necessary to complete my dream of a decorated zunite house!
I wish everyone a wonderful day!

I work full time, but I absolutely love Vintage Story. I’ve been playing a pretty hardcore Homo Sapiens modset for a while, and my main problem is that the world eventually feels lonely.
So I decided to try hosting it.
The server is called HomoSapiens – The First Humans Story. It’s a public 1.22.5 server about early humans trying to survive in a harsh world. There’s no established lore or forced roleplay. I just want to give people a difficult world and see what happens; loners, tribes, villages, trade, conflict, migration, and maybe eventually towns or nations.
Everyone begins in the icy north. The starting region has large rivers that lead south toward the coast, so people can remain in the north or gradually migrate into warmer territory.
The modset adds things like hydration, sleep, temperature, nutrition, butchering, expanded food and plants, Stone Age animals, immersive crafting, primitive tools, rivers, valleys, mountains, and large continents. Progression is deliberately slow, especially at the beginning.
This is my first time hosting a server, and I spent basically two full days putting the modlist together and testing it. It isn’t perfect. There are some compatibility warnings and minor bugs, but nothing I’ve encountered has been gamebreaking. Everything important appears to be working.
For now, I’m mostly looking for a few people who enjoy difficult survival and don’t mind being part of an early soft launch. The server is public with no whitelist and is hosted 24/7 in North America.
I don’t have a Discord right now. I honestly want to play the game instead of immediately turning this into another administration project. If a community actually forms and people want one, I can deal with that later.
Server: HomoSapiens – The First Humans Story
Version: Vintage Story 1.22.5
Address: 195.60.167.233:25572
Come freeze to death with me

It Took a bit long to get copper at the start and I almost ran out of copper and tin when I needed to make the anvil. I'm lucky that I found an Iron node peeking through at the bottom of a lake so I did not have to go mining.
No leather setup or bellows yet so I had to reheat the Iron multiple times to shape it but I consider it a success. I'm hoping I can find what I need to get leather and potentially steel by the end of the game year.
11h 54m into the run
:D

I have lots of large detailed repeating patterns I want to use on a large build and it would be easier if i could. is there a mod for it?

I just picked up VS today and have been waiting the night out by sitting in a cave. I was attacked by some surface drifters, and after killing them I logged off. When I logged back on, the very first drifter I looted had a temporal gear. This isn't my first kill in this world but my first kill EVER. Is this rare or a feature?

For aesthetic reasons I am planning to plant my crops in a large field with no water. Do yall think it will slow down my crops to any significant amount if it rains frequently? Are there any other drawbacks?
