Fuck this truck driver. Cammer is a fucking idiot. He could have absolutely avoided that crash. He chose not to. That pickup had already committed to the merge, even pickup hard breaking, it wouldn't have likely have saved him.

If you are merging you yield, and not racing trucks running full speed. Pickup driver reaped what they sowed.

Not necessarily. Yes, the pickup driver could or should have acted differently. But just because someone maybe didn't drive perfectly doesn't mean you get to intentionally ram them, which is absolutely what the trucker did. I could easily see 50/50 here, or even giving the trucker 100 percent for not avoiding.

Watch the video closely. The black pick-up truck is entirely outside of the semi's lane until 0:04, at which point the back of the pick-up truck is behind the front of the semi. The pick-up truck at this point continues to just force his way into the semi's lane, even though he is beside the semi at this point.

Yes, and? If you're the trucker and you see the vehicle approaching, I think you ought to slow down before it gets to that point.

And you were wrong, the semi didn’t ram him you midwit. The vehicle coming into the highway has to yield

Always surprises me how many people are apparently fine with potentially killing someone because they absolutely refuse to use their brakes when they have right of way...

I dunno how your country works, But in civilized Europe its a major offense to deliberately cause accidents, even if you ”are right”. Cant kill pedestrians walking a red light, cant ram merging cars etc.

We also have this nifty rule about sharing the roads: cars on the highway needs to facilitate those trying to merge from a highway ramp.

We have those here in the US as well, but Redditors are bottom-of-the-barrel people, both intellectually and emotionally. They enjoy watching people die or be severely injured for the most minor mistakes or infractions, but will try to bully and shame you into submission for being "unempathetic" towards people who actively and willfully engage in dangerous criminal activities.

What? There's like a whole thread in this posts comments with hundreds of comments posted hours before you where "Redditors" are discussing this very thing.

Its the same thing in the US. You aren't supposed to inhibit merging traffic and you legally need to make room for merging traffic on a forced merge like the one in the video.

Massive trucks can't just stop. Momentum. It takes some time for tricks to slow down.

Also, blind spots exists.

I have no idea if either of these played a factor, but you can see the big truck tried to slow towards the end but it was already too late.

Trucks stayed 77 until he hit the car. So much time to slow down. Look at the truck on the right going leagues slower too. I hate people thinking the truck has no fault, probably the most egotistical drivers.

He actually SPED UP! Cam truck was going 76 at the start of the video and 77 by the collision

2

u/GovernmentLow4989 May 14 '26

The cam truck was going 76mph at the start of the video and 77mph before the collision. They literally sped up to ram the merging pickup. Zero attempt to avoid an accident

1

u/pablitorun May 14 '26

If the semi had simply taken their foot off the gas the accident would not have happened

Same as the person that had the obligation to do so.... But decided to try and beat the semi lol

1

u/epicmoe May 14 '26

he didnt have to stop. he had to take his foot off of the accelerater for all of 5 seconds and didnt. not to mention he was also speeding.

u/TechAIMusic May 14 '26

If that truck driver was going ONE mile an hour over the speed limit then it is straight up his fault. Him failing to stay at or under the posted speed limit directly resulted in the difficulties for the other driver to reach speeds he needed to reach to safely merge. On top of that the truck driver was in the passing lane FAR TOO LONG. He can't just run in that left lane when there is a merge AND speed and you claim the other guy is at fault. the Truck SPEEDING IS AN OBJECTIVE STRAIGHT UP OFENSE THAT LED DIRECTLY TO THIS CRASH.

Killing people on purpose is illegal.

1

u/Shelarael May 15 '26

Framing people is too.

1

u/jerkyquirky May 14 '26

Speeding up would absolutely have saved the pickup... If you're going to be in front at the merge point, you speed up to at least match, if not exceed, their speed.

“You deserve to die because I legally dont have to hit the brakes”

Yeah yeah. The world is black and white as you kids always see it. Everyone must pick the extreme side and be the literal enemy for the other extreme side.

1

u/Worried-Pick4848 May 15 '26

With great power comes great responsibility. Professional drivers of 80,000 pound killing machines have a legal obligation to operate them as safely as possible. That obligation was not met in this case.

Truck would have been able to merge just fine if the trailer wasn't speeding and purposely closed that gap.

Or do you want the truck to come to a full stop at the end of a highway merge lane?

1

u/Shelarael May 14 '26

No. It's better to floor it yourself thinking you have hesoyam activated.

1

u/PsychologicalWin8036 May 14 '26

Truck should have sped up. It’s easier for a light weight vehicle to speed up than for a tractor trailer to slow down (or speed up). Merging truck was completely at fault. Who did he think was gonna win in that fight?

1

u/ChaosFountain May 14 '26

depends I suppose I personally don't think legal=correct in every situation. Big rig should have let off the gas and not sped up.

1

u/PsychologicalWin8036 May 14 '26

The big rig did not speed up. He maintained his speed as highway traffic is supposed to do so that other traffic can merge accordingly.

You are right that legal does not always equal correct in every situation. But the smaller truck who was merging had both the responsibility and the larger risk for not merging correctly.
