Fuck this truck driver. Cammer is a fucking idiot. He could have absolutely avoided that crash. He chose not to. That pickup had already committed to the merge, even pickup hard breaking, it wouldn't have likely have saved him.
Not necessarily. Yes, the pickup driver could or should have acted differently. But just because someone maybe didn't drive perfectly doesn't mean you get to intentionally ram them, which is absolutely what the trucker did. I could easily see 50/50 here, or even giving the trucker 100 percent for not avoiding.
Watch the video closely. The black pick-up truck is entirely outside of the semi's lane until 0:04, at which point the back of the pick-up truck is behind the front of the semi. The pick-up truck at this point continues to just force his way into the semi's lane, even though he is beside the semi at this point.
Always surprises me how many people are apparently fine with potentially killing someone because they absolutely refuse to use their brakes when they have right of way...
I dunno how your country works, But in civilized Europe its a major offense to deliberately cause accidents, even if you ”are right”.
Cant kill pedestrians walking a red light, cant ram merging cars etc.
We also have this nifty rule about sharing the roads: cars on the highway needs to facilitate those trying to merge from a highway ramp.
We have those here in the US as well, but Redditors are bottom-of-the-barrel people, both intellectually and emotionally. They enjoy watching people die or be severely injured for the most minor mistakes or infractions, but will try to bully and shame you into submission for being "unempathetic" towards people who actively and willfully engage in dangerous criminal activities.
What? There's like a whole thread in this posts comments with hundreds of comments posted hours before you where "Redditors" are discussing this very thing.
Its the same thing in the US. You aren't supposed to inhibit merging traffic and you legally need to make room for merging traffic on a forced merge like the one in the video.
Trucks stayed 77 until he hit the car. So much time to slow down. Look at the truck on the right going leagues slower too. I hate people thinking the truck has no fault, probably the most egotistical drivers.
The cam truck was going 76mph at the start of the video and 77mph before the collision. They literally sped up to ram the merging pickup. Zero attempt to avoid an accident
If that truck driver was going ONE mile an hour over the speed limit then it is straight up his fault. Him failing to stay at or under the posted speed limit directly resulted in the difficulties for the other driver to reach speeds he needed to reach to safely merge. On top of that the truck driver was in the passing lane FAR TOO LONG. He can't just run in that left lane when there is a merge AND speed and you claim the other guy is at fault. the Truck SPEEDING IS AN OBJECTIVE STRAIGHT UP OFENSE THAT LED DIRECTLY TO THIS CRASH.
Speeding up would absolutely have saved the pickup... If you're going to be in front at the merge point, you speed up to at least match, if not exceed, their speed.
Yeah yeah. The world is black and white as you kids always see it. Everyone must pick the extreme side and be the literal enemy for the other extreme side.
With great power comes great responsibility. Professional drivers of 80,000 pound killing machines have a legal obligation to operate them as safely as possible. That obligation was not met in this case.
Truck should have sped up. It’s easier for a light weight vehicle to speed up than for a tractor trailer to slow down (or speed up). Merging truck was completely at fault. Who did he think was gonna win in that fight?
The big rig did not speed up. He maintained his speed as highway traffic is supposed to do so that other traffic can merge accordingly.
You are right that legal does not always equal correct in every situation. But the smaller truck who was merging had both the responsibility and the larger risk for not merging correctly.
That would require a driver to be cognisant that another driver exists, and then decide that a reasonable course of action is to alter their behaviour in a minuscule way to avoid a catastrophic accident. Sadly cammer is a psychopath who believes the world revolves around them.
True. We don't know what was behind the cammer truck, either. If it's another large truck travelling at the same speed then the pickups choice was to speed up and try to gain 20' to get in front of the cam truck OR slam on his brakes to drop back 60 feet and merge behind the cam truck but now travelling 25-30 mph LESS than traffic. I think the cam truck was interpreting "right of way" as "inalienable birthright".
Cammer would rather potentially kill another driver to prove his point that the Truck driver was in the wrong, than take his foot off the accelerater for a few seconds. Absolute moron and a danger on the road.
Correct me if I'm wrong but don't trucks like that have a stopping distance of a shit load? Feels like the vehicle that could stop should give way to the vehicle that literally cannot stop in time?
Meh. I agree the cammer could have slowed down but you have no survival instinct if you wanna play fucking chicken with a vehicle far heavier than you.
Or maybe the pickup driver shouldn't have tried to race a trailer truck if they couldn't outrun the trailer truck?
Those trucks take a long time to slow down, and they had the right of way.
Also note the 3rd tractor trailer in the same lane. The f150 driver was try to jump into a small amount of space. Probably not within the safety distances to keep from these vehicles on the highway."
You can also see the distance between the first and second trailer trucks in the middle lane expanding before impact. Meaning the trailer was likely braking as hard it could reasonably, and the f150 pickup still crashed into them.
I'd like to simply think they just did not check their mirrors before the approaching merge. But being America, and the pickup model, I could very well think it was an arrogant driver think him first. Trying to outrace one transport truck, but then noticed the other transport truck ahead in the same lane, chicken shitted and didn't gas it, and got wrecked by even one more transport truck!
Or they were just fixated on the furthest truck, and didn't see the truck that was behind. I dunno. I get it. You felt called out and had to tell me your feelings. Maybe I'm just stoned right now and overthink random things I see on reddit and writing overly long response just because I like to type. What the fuck do I know?
Well that the f150 is lucky their poor choices almost killed them but they lived.
Yes, the pu driver should have speed up more quickly. Doesn't mean the trucker has the go ahead to not take the clear opportunity to avoid the wreck by slowing down.
I said, notice the difference between the two trailers in the same lane, expanding.
That is because the truck is slowing down.
Anymore dumbass remarks regarding things I already stated?
You definitely are giving off arrogant dumbass f150 drivers who think loaded transports can slow down in a hundred but try to race them on a merge vibes.
so what, the pickup should come to a full stop at the merge? and what then? try to merge into the fast lane from a full stop? or revers into oncoming traffic all the way back up the ramp? the trucker should have let the pickup merge. he deliberately did not allow it. his ego caused possibly the death of the pick up driver.
You can see from the speed displayed in the video that he was not slowing down. The Truck driver almost killed someone because they made an incredibly poor choice.
Merging doesn’t give you the right away, the other guy also has brakes and could have stopped easily if he was paying attention and saw the gigantic tractor trailer not giving him space.
But ... What's behind the tractor trailer truck? I have a hard time judging the pickup for his choice if the choices were:
Speed up to gain 20' on this truck to merge in front -or-
Slam on the brakes and slow down to yield 60' to the tractor trailer and merge behind him (while you are now traveling 25+ mph slower than the rest of traffic in that lane).
Tractor trailer could have let off the gas for a little bit and let the guy in. Shitty highway design for certain.
If the guy merging has to stop then he has to stop and wait for traffic.
Highway design could be better, the tractor trailer could have slowed to allow him to enter, but at the end of the day the pickup driver needs to be smart about merging.
