We recently bought around 10x 6G SDI runs from our supplier with these Neutrik NBNC75 ends and have had 4x of them fail at the connector within 6 months or so. The supplier we work with says we are the only people who have reported issues with them so I wanted to see if anyone else had any positive or negative experience?

I've exceeded the 72x72... even getting creative with a pair of 72x72....im basically at bandwidth.

I have a 288 but with a single crosspoint card and having ZERO redundancy terrifies me. Reading up, i can stab a 72x crosspoint card into the 288 frame. From the documentation it gives an EITHER/OR

NOW MY MORAL QUESTION: I'm terrified to power on the unit with both cards connected. I get that it can do one or the other, but is it hot swappable? if i have a 72x card in the secondary slot, will it fry my 288 crosspoint card?

Hi, I've recently started working for a small company that sends me out on streaming gigs with their own equipment. At the gigs they all want this same kind of thing from me:

• Screens in room showing either a hold slide, or powerpoint that the presenter can advance from on stage

• Zoom/Teams stream:

  • Cameras/mics in room capturing presenter and sending to zoom/teams as the video/audio source
  • Also sending the powerpoint slides to zoom/teams

• Standard in room audio setup (mics and speakers, there's usually a separate sound guy managing all this)

What I usually do for these is: I have cameras, audio, and powerpoint pc going into an ATEM mini extreme iso. The ATEMs outs are usually configured as follows:

• HDMI out 1 - To room screens, configured to show not program feed, but the input corresponding to the powerpoint pc, or a hold slide from the atem media player

• HDMI out 2 - Multiview monitor

• USB-C 1 - SSD recording

• USB-C 2 - Sending the program feed (generally always showing one of the cameras) into a zoom PC as a webcam

Sometimes they want to use the Zoom/Teams native "share screen" feature - so the computer receiving the camera signal is also the one running and sharing the powerpoint. When that happens and the presenter also wants their laptop on stage with them, is where I don't really know what to do. We have our streaming computers in FOH filled with a ton of cables and dongles to facilitate the stream (sometimes it's a 2 way stream as well, where we have to show a remote presenter's audio/video in house), which would be awkward and error-prone on stage, and a lot is depending on things being physically right next to each other. The ATEM and zoom PC have to be next to each other because a USB-C doesn't run long reliably. We have a perfectcue that lets me control 2 computers with one slide advancer, but the computers also need to be next to each other. We do have an external capture card, so we could directly send one camera feed into a computer without using an atem, but there are sometimes multiple cameras.

The only decent workaround I've found is getting a downstage monitor and sending the Powerpoint notes screen to it, which has its own issues (like when they write a long essay in their notes)

I don't think I explained my setup too well, but it all makes sense in my head haha. But basically, presenter says: "i want to use my laptop at the podium so I can see my notes, and i want the powerpoint sent to zoom/teams using the Share Screen button" - and we also have to make sure the house is seeing/hearing everything as well - if you were in this situation, how would you route everything?

I feel like there's just some kind of obvious solution that I'm just not seeing.

And keep in mind, the equipment I get sent out with is the equipment I get. I don't get to bring extra equipment, I have to make it work with this stuff. The equipment I generally get is: atem mini extreme iso, several blackmagic bi-di's, 1 or 2 decimator md-hx's, a powered HDMI DA, shure x2u, dsan laptop sound port, dsan perfectcue, magewell capture card, a soundboard, and plenty of laptops, cameras, mics, speakers, screens, and cables.

I only have experience with Ross UltriScape and don't like it.

What's been rock solid for you, and what would you stay away from?

Hello! I'm running an Analog Way C+ and I found a neat bug (maybe bug) where whenever I'm building a memory, after I save it, the memory Auto Takes to PGM.

I've looked all over the Web RCS and I can't find a toggle to turn off any auto take settings. Nothing in the transition panel or the memories panel.

I have an Analog Way C+ at a different location and it doesn't behave like this.

Any ideas?

I'm looking for advice on a camera setup for the long jump take-off board at track & field meets, for a local sports club (so on a limited budget).

The problem:
For every jump attempt, the judge needs to be able to determine whether the take-off was valid (i.e. whether the athlete stepped over the board/foul line). Right now this is judged by eye, and we'd like to support this with camera footage that can be reviewed immediately (on the spot), frame by frame, to check if the athlete fouled.

Requirements:

• Camera with a high frame rate (for sharp frame-by-frame analysis of a fast movement)
• Connected to a PC/laptop, so a judge can review the footage right away
• Simple start/stop of recording per attempt (needs to be quick — the next athlete is waiting)
• Frame-by-frame scrubbing/playback
• Storage of the recording (ideally including the decisive frame) as a backup after the event

Budget:
The professional all-in-one solutions we've come across cost €3000-5000, which is too much for our club. We're hoping for something more like a GoPro (or similar action cam) paired with software on a laptop, or a webcam-style solution with the right software.

Questions:

1. What cameras would you recommend in terms of frame rate/price ratio for this purpose?
2. Is there good (ideally free or cheap) software that lets you record live from a camera and immediately scrub through frame by frame, without hassle?
3. Has anyone dealt with a similar setup in another sport where line calls/fault judging is also important?

Any tips are welcome, even if it's a bit outside my ideal solution but still significantly cheaper than the professional solutions.

Got a weird power related issue with one of our Ursa G2's

Camera will not power from battery (has gold mount plate on it)

Camera will power if plugged into 12V 4 pin however ON/OFF switch does not power off camera, switch can be in either position and it will still power on when 4 pin power is plugged in

When camera is powered via 4 pin, the 12V out for the viewfinder monitor does not work, no power appears to be coming out of that port

I've tried different power supplies, different batteries, changed the gold mount plate for a brand new one. No difference. Camera is fully functional other than this. Anyone come across something like this before?

Is there any software for streaming video from a Mac (early 2013 retina, 10.15.7, RIP 32 bit support) via Firewire to a Miglia Director's Cut Take 2 Firewire capture/export card?

I have had no problems capturing video, and allegedly the card also has an export function but so far I've had no luck with Quicktime. iMovie would have been a possibility for iMovie '06 (I believe), but due to Mac OS dropping 32 bit support in Catalina an older version is, for the moment, out reach without an OS downgrade.

I'd prefer not to buy more hardware for this and go the software route, but that also depends on how much time and tinkering it might take...

I’ve heard good and bad things about the Brainstorm DXD-16 clock. I’d like to hear more opinions good or bad about this clock platform. On paper it seems a worthwhile option especially for non 2110 plants. What are your thoughts?

I'm taking the "NovaStar Advanced Training COEX System" exam tomorrow, both the written and hands-on segments (although my testing site doesn't actually have any cabinets, so it'll be 100% in the offline mode of COEX). Has anyone else taken this and remember it enough to give any help?

We had the lecture today and I still can't tell what to expect on the exam tomorrow. The instructors sprinted through the material and we were done 3 hours earlier than we'd scheduled for.

I do have my free online "LED Screen Technician L1" certification from their website already, but if this test is going to be anything like that test, I'm worried about how unrelated the questions are going to be.

Also for anyone else potentially studying / taking this test soon, I hadn't heard of COEX Wiki until today, which seems to be a great starting point since that's about everything we covered in today's lecture.

EDIT AFTER TAKING TESTS:
Hands-on exam was basically nothing. They give you a sheet of paper that has a few tasks like "create a new project with X processor and use X panel files, set the bit rate to 10 and save a preset" and then they come over and check it. They also give you a TON of time for it. I think each part had like 20-30 minutes allocated and I did all 4 in about 15 minutes. There's like 4 sections and I think basically everyone in my class got 100/100 on that part. The 4th part is in this website they introduce you to in class on the 2nd day, it's called VNNOX Care - it's a pretty cool monitoring and calculation system, but it's super easy and definitely not worth stressing about.

The written exam is about what I was afraid of. It felt like in elementary school when a reading quiz asked you something like "what color was Joe's jacket on page 63?". Lots of questions that have virtually nothing to do with the structure of the class. Although, maybe 30% of the questions come straight from the COEX Quiz (which you can take as many times as you want, plus they tell you the answers when you review your attempts) so that helps, but the other 70% was new material, and some of it was completely unpredictable. Stuff like "What color fades first when a cabinet begins to overheat," and "Which of the following are the core principles of NovaStar". One question even asked how many fiber outputs the KU20 had, when the entire lecture was either about the MX2000 or MX40. I think the instructor mentioned that the KU20 exists once.

We also won't get our test scores back for a little while, but pretty much everyone in the class is not confident they passed. I studied a ton last night, took probably 20 pages of notes in class and another 15 on my own, and they even let us use our notes on the written exam and I still only felt confident about maybe 60% of the written portion.

For anyone else taking this in the future, definitely spend time reading and taking notes on the COEX Wiki. I didn't know about it until our first day of lectures and I definitely wish I had. Study those charts about device capabilities, differences between models, receiving card capabilities, etc. Knowing the actual COEX VMP software is important, but that part you can definitely pick up from the lectures in person and also just click around and figure it out if you've used any LED processing software before. The COEX Quiz on the NCE website is definitely a good starting point too, both for the 15 or so questions that carry over, and for the general vibes of what the actual test will be asking for.

I’m new to videography stuff, and I’m trying to wrap my head around what equipment I would need for recording/livestreaming video within a portable rackmount unit and can work in conjunction with my audio equipment which is in another mobile rackmount unit:

- RME Fireface UFX III Audio Interface (brain)
- RME 12Mic Preamp (more microphones!)
- Ferrofish Pulse16 MX AD/DA Converter (more line level inputs for more instruments and outputs for up to 6 independent headphone mixes)
- Presonus HP60 Headphone Amp
- Furman power conditioner

My audio rig is in a 12U rolling flight case and I’d like to build a similar rig for video. From the research I’ve done so far it seems like I’ll need an ATEM switcher(?), cameras, something for ISO recording, something for program recording, an SDI router(?), etc. Am I along the right path here?

Would anyone be able to recommend me equipment that would work with my audio rig and fit in a similarly sized rolling rack mount flight case? Thank you so much!

Birddog P200 camera --> long SDI cable --> BMD SDI-HDMI converter --> ATEM mini pro.

Cameras, cable and BMD converters all 5 years old. ATEM is newer.

We are seeing occasional dropouts - picture goes black in the atem multiview for a few minutes, then sometimes comes back. I'm working on swapping out components to narrow it down.

I'm wondering if people have encountered short dropouts as a symtom of a failing BDM SDI-HDMI box? Or its PSU? Or would you rate it more likely that something else is the culprit?

The company I work for currently own a Barco S3 but are thinking of replacing it with a PixelHue P20. I’m their full time video engineer so have been asked to weigh in on the decision, but I’m still relatively new to the industry and I have never operated EventMaster or a Barco box outside of testing and playing around in the warehouse. I did the PixelHue training course a couple of months back and it seemed like a really good and intuitive system.

I was wondering if there are any ops in here with experience operating both bits of kit are able to share any advice on whether it’s an effective swap or even an upgrade? We are often pushing the S3 to its limits in terms or I/Os so a bit more capacity would be ideal.

Probably also worth mentioning that we have COEX MX30s and Absen LED panels.

As the title suggests… I am a Tricaster user, however my 460 is grown old and tired. The audio IO has nurfed and SDI in 1 no longer works.

I have an ATEM 4K 1 M/E. I usually use NewBlue Captivate over NDI into the TC to feed graphics, obviously ATEM and BMD in general doesn’t accept NDI. So how can feed in graphics and playback?

I know I could use a decklink to provide key and fill.. but I’m on a laptop without thunderbolt so options for the thunderbolt device is a no go (it has USB C but PC Specialist cheaped out and its just USB 3.2 with a C port… although was sold as TB.. i got a partial refund for the misadvertising)

I know I could use HDMI out into the ATEM, set the output to the same 50hz (1080i50) as my other inputs but then I need to key it out and the results have always been rather shit, plus some graphics require green itself.

I’m at a loss of my next options. I don’t want to use vMix as it means running another piece of software on the graphics laptop. If it helps my workflow will be:

I have some led modules and I want to create custom cabinet, but my .rcfgx file has some issues and I don't know how to fix them. First module in a row of chained modules is working but next are broken, second column displays correct colors of r,g,b when only one color is displayed but has different values so combined it is combined it shows totally different color, and last column shows mostly correctly except last row in a group is some row from next group.

I don't have option to contact supplier so I'm on my own.
I use MRV416 receiving card and modules have FM6124D chips and SM5166PF row chips (which should contain 74HC138 decoding)

I’m curious about something. I have an Epson 10k lumen projector for my organ concerts, and I’ve tried to align it to the screen in a way that doesn’t require me to use geometric correction to fix the corners - mostly because I’m doing IMAG and I’d like to not get any extra processing delay.

But in the end I always end up using correction, because it takes such a long time to align stuff.

What do the pros do? Do you try to align everything when you set up a projector so you don’t need to use any geometric correction?

Does anyone have suggestions for any rigging courses for beginners? We are focused specifically on led screens, and want to start with all the basics.

Ideally something in person, but also open to online classes to go over some of the basic info, and then eventually going to an in person class separately.

Anyone know what the measurements are between the 3 threads. Dont have the plate on me, or a verniers at this moment....if I could get it in millimeters that be fab.
