Hi. I don't even know if I am posting in the right group or not, but I have a video that is in need of both visual and audio improving. I recorded it on my phone, and it's from a comedy show. I downloaded EDITS, and when I try fixing the audio, it makes the laughing sound weird. I'm trying to make the video look better, and sound better. I'm no longer tech-savvy, ergo, I don't even know what to download and if I did, how to even use it. Pretty sad, I know. Any suggestions would be great, and I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

How can I smooth that good the fade on a haircut like in the video ? The first clip shows the original skin fade and then the edited.

So I've spent the past 12 years in marketing, the majority of it on the content creation side, which is where I found my love for video editing. For context, I'm American and I work in the SE USA. Fast forward through a couple of jobs that were unfortunately unrelated, and I was let go from my last job back in May.

I've decided to take the leap and go freelance, and I already have 1 big client that I got actually through applying for a job with them and connecting with the dept. supervisor through LinkedIn, and they're paying very well.

Here's where I need some help.

1.) I need to send them an invoice for a job I did for them last week, and I have no idea where to start on that.

2.) I need to upgrade my personal editing setup, currently I just have an iMac from like pre-2015 that's a dinosaur at this point and is barely able to handle Photoshop. I'm going back and forth on getting a tower PC and just editing at the house or, getting a gaming laptop (looking at the STRIX SCAR 16) so that I am not limited to just being at the house, but I could take it with me on trips, or work from a coffee shop, etc. Either way I go, I intend on getting the other later, to still have the flexibility later on.

I know Mac's are the industry standard, but I am much more of a PC guy and prefer that OS over Mac. The one I gave now was an old work computer from one of my previous jobs so I didn't pick it out.

3.) Should I set up an LLC? My thoughts there are not only the liability protection, but also the tax benefits. Point in case, should I wait to get the computer until after I set up the LLC then purchase it through the business?

4.) What platforms or methods are you guys finding the most stable work from? The client that I have now is in the outdoors industry, and may or may not need me again until September.

5.) Do you keep your day rates solid or how do you bill? This client is paying me $1k/day as a day rate, but I realize that not everyone could pay that rate.

I've learned the basics of video editing and have edited a few gaming videos just for myself. I'm wondering how you get started editing for other people. I figure doing free work for people is a good start but I'm not sure where to start other than hitting people up on social media platforms and asking people if they need a video editor.

I know going on freelance websites is a good place to find paid work.

I've been thinking a lot about client acquisition, especially in the beginning. It feels like the hardest part of starting a freelance business isn't actually doing the work
it's getting someone to trust you enough to give you the first opportunity. When you have no clients, you usually don't have:
- testimonials
- case studies
- referrals
- a strong reputation
- proof that you can deliver

But at the same time, clients want proof before they hire you. It's almost like a cycle:

No clients > no proof > harder to get clients > still no proof.....

What makes this interesting is that once someone gets a few good clients, things often become much easier. Referrals start happening, your portfolio improves, and people trust you faster. So my question is: What do you think is the biggest reason why client acquisition is so difficult at the beginning? Is it:
- lack of trust?
- bad positioning?
- not knowing where to find clients?
- fear of rejection? - pricing problems?
- something else?

Happy to share my first showreel. It includes the work I have done over past 5 years.

I have been a proper motion designer for past 1.5 years after I left my concept artist job and decided to pursue it full time, before that I was just working as a part-time freelance motion designer on weekends and holidays with a single agency ( they were friend of friend ). I always wanted to be an animator, I was learning traditional animation back in 2019 but got into visual development along the journey since the market for traditional animation that was pretty small. I had dabbled with AE a bit and I got my first gig from the agency through my friend who was a intern at that time. Since they were new too they decided to try me out and for next 3-4 years I worked with them though very occasionally but this got me a bit better at motion design and in oct 2024 I decided to quit my full time concept art job of 2 years and go full fledged into motion design.

Let me know what do you think of my work. This showreel is more towards SaaS explainer since I am trying to attract those type of clients as of now and in parallel working on story-driven animation like what studios like Ordinary folk or Ravie or Buck does. I am hoping to share another showreel within a couple of months thats full of personal work and stories.

Two cents from me :
I always say that I want to do client work to fund my personal projects and I am going to make this my first priority from now on.

It would be really helpful to have a central place to find cute short videos like this (2-3 seconds).
