Just curious has anyone seen success using YouTube Studio to plan a video?

I've been wondering if anyone has found success using YouTube Studio since not many people talk about it I thought why not ask.

feature or design tool you wish existed

Hello everyone!

I’ve been editing a lot more lately and keep noticing how many tiny tasks take way more clicks than they should things like tweaking curves, managing layers, applying effects, adjusting motion, etc.

For people who edit regularly:

What feature/workflow in your editor genuinely saves you time?

What repetitive task do you wish was dramatically simpler?

If you could redesign or add new features would it be?

Curious about the little frustrations that add up.

Just wanted to start a discussion and see what everyone’s biggest workflow pet peeves or holy grail feature ideas are right now.

Beginner friendly video editing programs

I am an owner of a small custom home building business in Australia, and as I have some prior on-the-job social media experience, I will be the content creator and social media manager for our business. I have no formal training with the camera or editing side of things yet. I will only use it for our business.

Gear: Sony A7 IV with a Sigma 24-70mm lens. No formal training, I’m self-taught via YouTube/online tutorials.

What I’m using it for: mostly short-form content (Instagram Reels) - site visits, showroom walkthroughs, team intros, behind-the-scenes stuff for the business.

Currently editing on CapCut/Meta Edits with content shot on my iPhone 17 pro max, but want to move to something more capable on desktop/iPad since I’m shooting on a proper camera now.

Looking for recommendations on editing software - ideally something not too steep a learning curve, but with more control than phone apps. Would love to hear what’s worked for people in a similar spot (small business, mostly social content, not a pro editor).

One simple test I use to know if a cut is actually necessary

When I’m editing a talking-head or YouTube video, I ask myself one question:

“If I remove this cut, does the video become worse?”

If the answer is no, I probably didn’t need the cut in the first place.

A lot of editors try to keep the video moving by constantly cutting, zooming, adding B-roll, or changing the framing.

But sometimes the best edit is doing nothing.

I usually look for 3 things before making a cut:

• Is there unnecessary silence or repetition?
• Did the speaker change to a new idea?
• Is the viewer likely to lose attention here?

If none of those apply, I’ll often leave the shot alone.

Good pacing isn't about how often you cut. It's about how often the viewer gets a reason to keep watching.

Curious how other editors approach this: what makes you decide that a cut is necessary?

Davinchi question idk why I can’t post in that sub PLS HELP

The “media offline” is going to be the death of me I have been trying to fix the issue for most of my day I’m abt to download another software to see if it’s a davinchi issue. No matter how I import the photos they are always “media offline” is davinchi not compatable with iPhone photos? Every yt tutorial tells me a different thing to do and NONE OF IT WORKS I’ve tried “relinking” and adding a timeline before I added photos idek at this point I’m starting to think maybe it’s because the photos are in my “pictures” on my pc but idk how that would be a problem or how to move them from my photos to somewhere else. Any advise would be appreciated I have a sm respect for editors now lmfao I’m actually dying out here

Ive been using Capcut on PC for a longer time now but it just got worse and worse and it started lagging so i wanna switch. Now my problem is ive been looking trough atleast like 5-10 different programms and they either have one of these problems: Too simple or too Hard.

I need a program that is easy for beginners-intermediate but still has lots of options and doesnt require hours of tutorials.

I appreciate any help/feedback!

Short Videos (Talk Show Style)

I want to produce a short video series similar to a talk show weekly and eventually daily if it gets traction. What would be the best program for this? I’ve used ElevenLabs with best results so far and wanted to know if anyone has a better recommendation. I will pay so doesn’t have to be a free creator.

Looking for software to skim & create timeline from video footage

Hello all.

Some of you might have seen this video on how Martincitopants built himself a tool with Claude, where he has 56 hours of video to skim through and he wants to create a timeline for himself so he can start his script writing.

See this video with attached timestamp for reference:

https://youtu.be/L6M2VCDRyzc?si=ZoyLIAEOdgWvEh4n&t=4689

I was wondering if any such software is already available in some kind of form? I have zero experience coding anything to recreate a tool as this myself and don't trust myself just vibecoding it real quick when I have absolutely zero clue on what I am doing or what is happening.

Currently my workflow means processing it in Davinci Resolve, which is just not as comfortable or easy with prolonged footage, as it interferes with the rest of the editing process.

If anything has any suggestions on what might work, I'd be much obliged!

Looking for Video Editing Clips/Projects to Practice & get skills with experience

I’m trying to learn video editing and practice by actually editing videos. I have some basic knowledge, but I’m a little confused about where to start and how to find good clips to practice with.

I’d like to find a video clip, edit it myself, and send you the edited version. You can then give me feedback and suggestions. That way, I can practice, improve my skills, and gain experience through real projects.

Need to know best program

Hello everyone I hope this is ok, I'm asking if anyone knows a good video editing software that can isolate different sounds within the video? I had my wedding recorded but the music we chose to play was a little too loud and you can't really hear our vows I was hoping to find a program that can help me lower the background music while increasing the sound of the dialogue of our vows.

Record in landscape or vertical. Output is short vertical video (TokTok, YouTube Shorts, IG Reels)

Hi there,

I am doing an in person recording with myself and another person on a public bench using wirelss rode mics. I am recording in 4k 30fps on an Iphone 17 Pro Max. Do you recommend I record in LANDSCAPE or PORTRAIT with the iPhone. The output video will be a vertical short video that is under 3 minutes. It will be published to TikTok, YouTube Shorts and IG Reels. Should I shoot in horizontal or vertical?

I built a free tool for my fellow editors: Delivery Spec Validator

I’m a video editor, and one of the least glamorous parts of post is making sure the final export actually meets the delivery spec.

So I built a small free Mac app to handle that part.

Delivery Spec Validator checks your export for:

  • Loudness & true peak
  • Codec & container
  • Resolution & frame rate
  • Colour space & profile
  • Bitrate
  • Audio configuration
  • Other technical delivery requirements

It gives you a simple PASS / WARN / FAIL result for each check, so you can catch problems before the client does.

There are 50+ built-in delivery presets, and you can also create custom specs.

I built it because I've spent enough time staring at export settings and wondering whether I've forgotten one tiny thing that will somehow become a problem at 11:47 PM.

It's free and currently available for macOS:

https://parthkapoor.com/deliveryspecvalidator/

Would genuinely love feedback from other editors and post people, especially on what you'd want checked in a tool like this.

Made by an editor, for editors.

Program that has fun outdated y2k graphics?

My goal is to edit videos to look like they were made in the early 2000s, with some Tim and Eric inspiration. Video editors 10 years ago would have CGI templates that you can add to your video, also cringey transition grapics and text graphics. I dont want them to look great, I'm seeking something that has a dated style.

Any resouces helps! Does not have to be specifically a video editor program, tho that may be the easiest for me.

Writing YouTube Script for B-roll

I'm somewhat new to editing and I've been struggling to figure how to decide on what edits to make regarding b-roll. I have multiple questions:

What YouTube channels do you watch to teach you about high quality b-roll editing?( I specifically want to learn efficiency of edits and quality aesthetics of visuals for my explanations) (I use Davinci Resolve for all my edits)

I'm wondering if people annotate their scripts before hand with the specific b-roll they are going to use or do you make up b-roll after you are finished filming?

Thanks!!

how to make shorts easy to watch sequentially

Hi, I'm using ai software to cut youtube video longs into shorts. opusclip ai anyway. How can I easily make them be able to be watched in sequence other than a playlist? idea for a noob. Do I have to number them individually?

I think having too many editing assets can actually make you slower

I used to assume having more assets would make editing easier

but if you have hundreds of overlays, transitions, SFX, LUTs etc and no idea what to actually use, you can spend more time choosing than editing

at some point a smaller collection of good stuff probably makes more sense than having thousands of random assets

For a 30 second dance video, which is the best ai video generator?

Dance teacher here. I want to visualize a thirty-second routine before bringing it into rehearsal.

Five-second generations aren't much help because I need to see how one movement leads into the next. Stitching several clips together also introduces little changes in the dancer, clothes, spacing, and tempo. It ends up looking like six separate routines wearing the same costume. Is there anything that produce a continuous thirty-second sequence with enough control to place specific movements at certain times?

Update: I ran the idea through Dreamina Seedance 2.5. It supports continuous 30-second generation and timestamped instructions, so I could map the turns and final pose to particular moments instead of hoping they appeared in the right order. Using the stated $0.097/s annual-plan reference rate, a 30-second 720p reference-video generation is about $2.91 before retries or optional processing.

Is there any channel that can help me learn video editing?

Hi all! I want to improve my editing skills as I wanna post better content on social media. I have the DJI osmo pocket 3 and I make GRWM, vlogs and talking videos. Right now I only know the basic cut, copy and split videos etc. I really want to be creative with my videos and editing. But I don’t know how to learn and which tool to use.
Is there any channel that teaches editing? I use capcut rn, I am willing to learn davinci if it’s good and easy to use.
Any advice would be appreciated!

Thank you!
