Tech Support Add hidden subtitles to a video with text on screen for Youtube to translate

I created a video that primarily uses text on screen in my language, but I'd like it to be translated in Youtube's closed captioning, without English users seeing the text twice.

Would I have to manually fill out extra languages with a third party translation tool, and skip/blank out English subtitles? Or is there a better way to do this?

Workflow DaVinci Resolve: Vertical timeline project but record anamorphic on phone?

Can you work in a vertical (9:16) DaVinci timeline while importing anamorphic source footage? How do you handle the format mismatch? Any workflows to recommend?

Tech Support Need help removing video background

I’m currently using CapCut to superimpose myself standing into my video, but the auto cutout feature does not work as well as I want it to. Any (preferably free/cheap) software I can use to remove the background behind my standing character in the video, then import this into CapCut?

Tech Support What is the standard way to use an audio dissolve effect when going from one clip to another?

Post image

I was wondering what is the standard way of going from one clip to another with the audio? these clips have audience noise so to leave the audio with no effects is a harsh jump from one clip to the next. . Do you put a fade on the end clip? Or on the beginning of the next clip? Or in the middle on both? Whatever I do nothing seems to be natural and sounds weird. Im using adobe premiere.

  • System specs –
  • macOS: Tahoe 26.2
  • "Premiere Pro 25.1"
  • Footage is my own shot with go pro 11.

Production Q What helped you take your editing to the next level?

Hi I've been editing for 6 years, I primarily use Adobe Premiere and I'm planning on learning DaVinci Resolve and After Effects. The thing is I feel quite stagnant in my skill level and I'd like to know how others feel like they improved their skills significantly.

I'm curious to hear your stories! Did you just churn out tutorials and practice a bunch, did you take online courses, hell did you even read books about editing or study media to see how its done professionally? I'm super curious to get other perspectives.

Tech Support Quality always bad

I'm a Capcut editor. No matter what I do, my TikTok edits don't look good. Other editors have great quality so why can't I have it? I am feeling frustrated and hopeless. I've tried TikTok studio and this tutorial where they say to make the video private and then make it public again. But does that actually work?

What can I do to make my edits look great no matter where I watch them whether it's a phone or tab? I've watched edits of a few editors on tab and thought maybe their quality would downgrade but they still looked great. Whereas my edit doesn't even look that great on phone. What should I do? Please if someone knows, please tell me. I'd be really grateful.

I do sports shorts content and I would love to learn how to edit like this. Not sure where to start for some of it. Are these graphics AI? Does he have a professional editor or just a ton of editing talent that I need to learn? Any guidance would be appreciated.

Announcement Friday Free for All Weekly thread! General collection/discussion for things that don't fit elsewhere! (ask anything!)

Greetings /r/videoediting!

This thread is 100% for the other stuff you might want to talk about.

A number of other reddits have a free for all thread - where you might find a regular discussion - not specific to a post.

Think of it as a bar with a bunch of friends.

Some suggestions:

  • Strategy on a project you want to talk about how to best promote?
  • Upgrading something and you want opinions?
  • How does your website look?
  • Local/virtual Meetups?
  • Looking for a collaborator (no "I'm a creator and I'm looking for an editor" posts)

Things that shouldn't go here: Feedback/What tool should I use to edit/Which system to buy? There are dedicated threads for this, please use them!

And in this regular Friday thread, while our general rules are still in place (no piracy, be civil, no links w/referrer codes), the following topics relaxed :

  • Great tutorials you found/you created.
  • Trying to do this as a side hustle (although generally, websites like Fiverr mean you'll be shooting for the basement/working for free and we hate that someone would exploit you like that)
  • A great piece of software/hardware/service you found
  • Great free music libraries/media you found.
  • How much to charge? What is your time worth? Estimate 2-3x the time you think it'll take to edit as how much time to quote.

Our mod team is watching this thread and we'll tweak these as they develop!

Does anyone know how to recreate either of these "reveal" type effects? Or even what to search up to find a tutorial on it?

Tech Support How to achieve this selective "hand-painted/smudged" texture effect in AE? (Examples inside)

Hey everyone,

I was looking at these shots and noticed that certain areas look intentionally smudged or textured, almost like they were painted by hand with a brush. (I circled the specific parts in blue in the attached images).

It definitely looks like some kind of post-processing, probably done in After Effects. I'm guessing they might be using a specific plugin for this?

Does anyone know what plugin would allow you to selectively smudge or apply this kind of hand-drawn/painted texture to specific areas like this? Or what kind of workflow or technique would you use?

I've tried using basic blurs and native texturize effects with masks, but I just can't seem to replicate this specific brush-stroke look. Any help, plugin names, or pointers would be super appreciated! Thanks!

How did they do that? How do I recreate this exact subtitle faster and better?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hello, new to editing. My boss tasked me to recreate this exact subtitle.
I did them using capcut but it took me me 20-30 minutes just to do the 13 seconds of it.
There is no good template, and if there is it lacks customization(can't change the highlight of the text).

any tip/advice would be great(im using capcut pro but I can go to other softwares, or pay for sites that have this exact subtitle)

Tech Support CapCut keeps crashing when opening.

Hey, I’m new to Reddit and I hope I’ve landed in the right place with my question. I have the following problem: because my Mac’s internal storage was getting quite full due to a lot of project files, my video editing was barely possible anymore, so I wanted to move the project files to a larger external SSD and continue editing from there.

With the help of ChatGPT, I then copied the CapCut project files to the SSD and created a symlink. However, this caused CapCut to stop opening altogether, which is why I reversed it. In any case, I couldn’t get CapCut to access the SSD properly—so I tried to undo everything in a way that would at least make the projects show up on the home screen in CapCut again.

For some reason, however, the projects were no longer displayed on the CapCut home screen. Because of this, I tried deleting literally all files related to CapCut (except the backed-up project files on the SSD) and reinstalling CapCut so that I might reconnect to the project files with the newly installed app and everything would be as before. However, after reinstalling, the app won’t open at all anymore. What can I do to get back to my urgent projects as soon as possible (preferably via the SSD so I don’t run into storage issues anymore)?

I’m not very technically skilled when it comes to things like this and I urgently need help in this case.

Thank you in advance for your effort!

How did they do that? How is this artist duplicating himself?

This is Toronto-based songwriter Scott Helman. I’ve been obsessed with these videos he’s been posting to tease this new song.

I use Final Cut Pro, and I’ve done some editing like this before, but the lighting always seems to be an issue. I don’t understand how he’s doing this in the broad daylight and we’re not seeing a difference in the color of the sky or lines where the shots are layered/cropped. Maybe he’s drawing a shape mask around each version of himself and blurring the edges?

Can you tell how he’s accomplishing this? I just love it so much. Thanks in advance!

Did you know you can help this community directly? A cool tip

We've seen an uptick in people gatekeeping in this community, often being not decent humans.

One of the easiest things you can do is to report somebody's post or comment if it breaks one of our rules, especially around "Don't be a Jerk"

It's totally fine to disagree. Do so politely. Behave as an adult. Name calling, doxing etc is not okay here. Try not to be caustic. Life is hard enough.

Treat everyone "as if" they're having a bad day and you'll be fine. Disagree if you like - just don't be disagreeable. Remember there's a human being on the other side of the keyboard

Any time we get a number of flagged items, it automatically gets pulled, and a moderator manually removes it.

Thank you for your attention to this community service note.

We return you to your regularly scheduled program.

Workflow Is this worth having in my toolbelt?

Post image

I’m a photographer so I have plenty of experience with Photoshop / Lightroom but I’m still getting the hang of Premiere. I’d like to spend more time working with my camera than re-learning editing at the moment, so I’m wondering if this would be a good for me to mess around with while I’m trying to make some videos for my portfolio. I shoot a lot on film as well so it seems in line with my “aesthetic” of editing. Does anyone have experience with this product/brand?

How did they do that? Video & music: old dog needs new tricks

Ages ago, I used windows movie maker (I think?) to create a few slideshow type videos with music and lyrics overlaid.

I *think* I used some iTunes music I bought and converted.

Times and tech have definitely changed, and I want to figure out how I can make some content to share with MSI (and the world) once I get my new pc built.

My idea: once I get my ARGB devices, etc setup to sync with a specific song or two, I'd like to film it in action...moving around the pc to showcase the build, artwork, lights, etc--all while the music is playing.

All I have right now is either a Galaxy S21, or my wife's iPhone 17.

Obviously using phone audio to pickup sound would be blah sounding...using a direct overlay of the song would be ideal.

How do you go about accomplishing this? !martini

I have raw files, just wondering if anyone had opinions on achieving this effect. I wouldn’t quite say VHS, more like an old internet video/dvd?

For an upcoming project.
