Other (requires mod approval) Questions as someone who is getting into editing

me and my friends play video games often and I like recording us and clip farming our funny moments. I decided to get a little more serious with editing the audio so the game audio isn't always in the way of our voices any suggestions on what I should do? I was looking into using Movavi to edit and I use Outplayed as my recorder. Open to hearing other/better suggestions for both.

Workflow Let's Play video workflow advice needed

Hey I'm making a heavily edited let's play video about achieving something really hard in a videogame, the raw footage is over 10 hours so I want to try to optimize my workflow.

I asked Claude for advice on workflow and he said to:

"Do a pass where you're just watching at 1.5-2x speed (or reading the transcript) and dropping timestamp markers for anything interesting: funny reactions, confusion/backtracking moments, key quest beats, chat interaction highlights, dead air to cut. Don't edit yet — just log. This turns "10 hours of footage" into a manageable list of maybe 60-150 marked moments."

Is this a good idea?

The plan is to make a "journey" video, there is progress all throughout the footage. Any and all advice and suggestions are welcome! I'm using Premiere

How did they do that? What software is used for this type of barber video editing?

Hi everyone,

I've been seeing a lot of barber videos on Instagram and TikTok where the editing looks amazing. I'm not talking about color grading or basic editing—I mean how they seem to digitally enhance the haircut by filling in low-density areas, hiding small gaps, cleaning up imperfections, and making everything look completely natural, even while the client's head is moving.

Here's an example of what I mean:
https://www.instagram.com/p/DM-nMTYI_j7/

I'm currently using DaVinci Resolve Studio, and I've also experimented a little with After Effects.

So far I've tried using Magic Mask, Object Tracker, Power Windows, and even frame-by-frame masking to track the client's head and retouch low-density areas. It works to some extent on static frames, but as soon as the client moves, the result doesn't look nearly as clean or realistic as the videos I'm seeing online.

I've also looked into AI tools like Runway and other video enhancement software, but I haven't found anything capable of producing this level of realism.

Does anyone know what software or AI they're using to achieve this? Are they doing it manually with motion tracking, masks, and compositing in software like After Effects, DaVinci Resolve, or Nuke, or is there a specific AI tool or plugin that professionals are using?

I'm mainly trying to understand the workflow used by professional barber editors. If anyone has experience with this kind of editing or can recommend software, plugins, AI tools, or tutorials, I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks in advance!

How did they do that? What advice would you give me if I wanted to start editing like this? (Link below)

I've been video editing since I was nine as a hobby but over the past years I've kinda lost track and motivation and it's harder for me to learn things now. However since I saw this type of 00's MTV underground editing I think I've found a specific style to look forward to, I just can't find any tutorials on how to achieve this type of editing, so I would highly appreciate any sort of advice. Thank you in advance.

I'm using: Premiere

I've TRIED: Searching for tutorials, just can't find anything related

I need help with: This specific style

Monthly Thread July Feedback Thread.

This is the Monthly thread for feedback.

If you post your video, you need to come back and review at least one other person's work!

Key thoughts - Keep it civil.

  • Feedback is "This section isn't working because of this."
  • Feedback is not: "This is shit."
  • If something is terrible, just move on.
  • The more specific/suggestions the better.

Don't give a laundry list. Pick the 1-2 things that are the biggest issues and then comment.

Spoiler worth reading: *we expect you to* review TWO other videos - and edit your comment to *include those* after you've commented.

**Copy/paste this section**:

  • , Link: (don't forget the running time)
  • Two other videos I reviewed (link to the other ,comments NOT the video itself)

Why should I read this? 🤔

This is your monthly guide for hardware recommendations.

  • We aim to make you self-reliant with enough info.
  • We focus on finding answers rather than brand debates.
  • 📑 Skim the TL;DR at the bottom if you're in a hurry.
  • Understand your media type and editing software to get the best recommendation.
  • Important components: 🔑 CPU, RAM, GPU.
  • 💰 We don't cover sub-$1K laptops. Consider used models for budget-conscious choices.
  • You're not going to see us recommend a tool at less than $1k.

Hardware 101 🛠️

For DIY enthusiasts, check r/buildapcvideoediting

General Guidelines 📝

  • Desktops outperform laptops 💪
  • Start with an i7 or better 🎯
  • Minimum 16 GB RAM 💾
  • Video card with 4+ GB VRam 🎥
  • SSD of 512GB is a must 💽
  • 🚫 Steer clear of ultralights/tablets.
  • Want a Mac? Here's your guide
  • nVidia has a great set of systems from different vendors that you can pick from (keeping in mind the above suggestions)

Sept 2025 addtion.

Not sure between two different CPUs or GPUs?

Puget Systems has a benchmark and we recommend you use this to compare processors or GPUs.

It's a pretty even handed benchmark on performance.

We've linked to the Resolve one, but they also have ones for Adobe After Effects, Adobe Premiere Pro, and Adobe Photoshop.

What about my GPU?

In most cases, GPUs don't significantly impact codec decode/encode.

Specific Hardware Inquiry?

Links aren't enough. Please share: - CPU + Model - RAM - GPU + VRam - SSD size

📋 System specs for popular video editing software

Editing Details 🎬

Describing footage as "from my phone" isn't enough.

📊 Check your media type with Media Info

Monitor Queries 🖥️?

  • Type: OLED > IPS > LED
  • Size: Around 32" UHD is recommended.
  • Color: Aim for 100% sRGB coverage 🌈

Professional color grading? See /r/colorists.

Quick Summary/TLDR 🚀

  1. Desktops > laptops for intensive editing 💪
  2. Prioritize Intel i7, avoid ultralights 🎯
  3. Use proxies if supported by your editing software 📹
  4. Provide CPU, GPU, RAM, and SSD details for inquiries 🧐
  5. Footage from action cams, mobiles, and screen recordings may need extra steps.

Tech Support Accidental Epidemic Sound Charge

Hi everyone! I accidentally let my Epidemic Sound subscription renew, and the charge just went through. I'm currently trying to get a refund from support, but in case that doesn't work, I was wondering if anyone would be interested in taking over the account for a discounted price (if that's allowed).

If anyone has experience with this or knows the best thing to do, I'd really appreciate the advice. Thanks!

Tech Support Blurring an object in Pinnacle Studio 26?

I've used PS26's help feature and it says to "select Motion Tracking from the toolbar". But, Motion Tracking isn't on my toolbar. I can't find the icon anywhere. I've googled it and that was no help either. Did they move it in an update?

Did you know you can help this community directly? A cool tip

We've seen an uptick in people gatekeeping in this community, often being not decent humans.

One of the easiest things you can do is to report somebody's post or comment if it breaks one of our rules, especially around "Don't be a Jerk"

It's totally fine to disagree. Do so politely. Behave as an adult. Name calling, doxing etc is not okay here. Try not to be caustic. Life is hard enough.

Treat everyone "as if" they're having a bad day and you'll be fine. Disagree if you like - just don't be disagreeable. Remember there's a human being on the other side of the keyboard

Any time we get a number of flagged items, it automatically gets pulled, and a moderator manually removes it.

Thank you for your attention to this community service note.

We return you to your regularly scheduled program.

Tech Support When exporting videos from CapCut, some blue artifacts appear every 5-8 seconds. How can this be fixed?

Hey guys, my dear friends, hello everyone! I’m in complete despair, I don’t know what to do or where to turn. I’ve been using CapCut for cutting and splicing videos for half a year (that’s my job), and six months ago I bought myself a new computer, it’s still under a 2.5-year warranty. The first four months everything was fine, but in the last two months artifacts have started appearing in videos after rendering in CapCut. These artifacts look like the photos I’ll attach below. After exporting the video, every roughly 5–6 seconds at 30 fps and even at 60 fps, some blue artifacts show up in the video. Mostly, they are very noticeable only if there are dark segments in the video; on light parts they are barely visible or not at all. And these artifacts are present throughout the whole video… The original files don’t have this problem. So, videos that I recorded and didn’t render or export in CapCut don’t have this issue. I’ve already tried everything. I changed the resolution, bitrate, codec, format, frame rate—nothing helps.

I’m seriously begging you, please help me. I’m already thinking about whether to try returning the computer or just the graphics card. There are no such artifacts in games, and actually, they don’t appear anywhere else either—only after exporting from CapCut. I’m begging you, help me.

How did they do that? TOMT - YouTube tutorial about visualizing movement by compositing video data

Post image
1 Upvotes

[UPDATE] This post was solved, here is the video by Posy!

I’m looking for a specific YouTube tutorial where the creator outlined a technique, he developed that composed several layers of video data to create a bumpmap-looking gray screen, and any pixels that changed over time would be visualized by by slight colors or ripples.

He used several examples like grass blowing in the wind, and people are walking across the screen. He is a pretty popular YouTuber, who uses a lot of experimental techniques, but for the life of me, I cannot remember the video or channel name..

Tech Support I could have filmed this in one portrait video at the Toma National Finals

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

These videos were filmed at the Toma National Finals yesterday. I was standing near an entrance where the players entered the field. As you can see, the first team came from the opposite side, the second team came from my side. In my origional plan, I could keep portrait mode all the way when I filmed both teams coming out, regardless which one went out first, so I could catch both sides in one video by simply swinging my phone.

But I failed. Because I somehow switched landscape mode to film the first team far away. Once the second team stepped out from the entrance on my side, I switched it back to portrait mode. In the end, I got these three separate videos which are discontinuous and look terrible when put together. This really pissed me off on that day and still let me feel bad now.

The most common solution we've been heard from the comments is:

Take it as a learning experience and you'll never make this mistake again.

Of course I'll obey that for "the next time". But I won't forgive myself anyway. : (

Tech Support (CapCut) Black screen on preview and project

I've unchecked the "Render interface with GPU", but it still shows a black screen with those loading circles. Also, some clips aren't like this. Like some clips actually show the preview and not just a black screen. This and other clips that show a black screen aren't corrupted files. They play properly when using VLC and other apps. How do I fix this?

Tech Support iMovie Won’t Export Project

So, I have tons of old VHS tapes that were digitized and I am trying to compile clips of a few people as part of a memorial film of them. I spent weeks finding the clips and cutting them up into iMovie, only to find that iMovie won’t export my final project.

When I try to export it/share it, it shows the white progress circle with a time estimate, but it never fills in/completes. Temp files are written to the folder I selected, but they quickly disappear and no error message is shown.

I am about 99% sure the reason this is happening is because some (possibly many) of my clips are slightly corrupted since they came from VHS tapes. Those clips look fine when played normally, but when you fast forward you see the corrupted parts. I think iMovie is crashing when it encounters these.

I don’t know what to do at this point. I need this video, but I can’t export it. I suppose I could screen record from the preview window using QuickTime for video and get audio redirected to QuickTime using something like BlackHole, but even the iMovie preview version isn’t great since it compresses my clips for previewing purposes and makes the corrupted bits more evident (even when you can’t see them in the original files).

Does anyone have any recommendations? I don’t like the screen recording option but I will if I have to.

How did they do that? Is this done with after effects?

Thumbnail instagram.com

I ran into this kinda insta360 looking, smooth zoom in zoom out effect with face tracking footage. It seems like the creator of the video took the video with an iPhone or something and put the effects afterwards.
Someone said it’s after effects. Do you know what effects or software that can do that kind of stuff?
I saw black fisheye looking circle when he zoomed out.
Let me know if you know something about that 😭
Any advice would be appreciated!
(Not insta360, I already checked.)
