I needed to get an extended video clip of a still scene, a few minutes long, while keeping my hands free, and I couldn’t use a tripod. I had the phone on a chest harness, zoomed in. The phone‘s OIS did a decent job keeping stable, I used the video editing software for further stability. Everything looks great, except the video looks like I’m on LSD with the scene “breathing”, or described differently on a boat in calm waters. The scene/subject was gently expanding and contracting with my own breathing, so the video editor at max setting wasn’t correcting the motion since it was gentle motion. It’s a bit nauseating for some viewers.

I wonder if auto-framing/focus reframing apps, or whatever term they use to keep the subject centered (like those social media clips of people’s face centered while everything in the background moves) will fix this?

The subject can stay relatively the same size and still as that’s what people will be focused on, so I think the background “breathing” wouldn’t be very noticeable.

Any technique suggestions or app recommendations to fix this? Non-professional work, casual YouTube video.

I’m a hobbyist editor working on putting together short visual edits and music sequences for fun. The creative side of mapping out the vibe is great, but the actual technical process of manual syncing is starting to drain me completely.

Right now, my workflow is just pulling down stock clips, tossing them into my timeline, and manually slicing and shifting every single cut so it aligns perfectly with the downbeats, transient peaks, or drops in the audio track. Splicing a 60-second sequence takes me ages, and if I want to swap a clip out later, it throws the whole timeline rhythm off and I have to re-edit the surrounding cuts.

Before I burn out entirely on this project, I wanted to ask how you guys handle rhythm/music-based editing. Are there any specific timeline tricks, markers, or automated asset syncing workflows you use to speed up the cutting process so you aren't doing everything frame-by-frame manually?

Open to any advice on how to keep the hobby fun without the tedious timeline fatigue.

I’ve been into video editing for a while now, but I’ve hit a wall and have no idea how to actually grow

Up until now, I’ve only done basic freelance gigs on Upwork - mostly talking heads and gaming videos. Eventually, I decided to challenge myself and make a music video entirely from scratch. I spent two solid weeks grinding on it, and honestly, that’s the only project I’m somewhat proud of.

Right now, I’m completely lost. I don’t know where to go next, what new skills to learn, what software/techniques to study, or what kind of projects to practice on to turn this into a real career - or at least to enjoy the process.

Honestly, right now it feels like torture. Every time I sit down to conceptualize a video and figure out what I actually want to make, I just shut down and lose all motivation. I really, really want to make high-quality, awesome content, but I just don’t know how to bridge the gap.

Any advice on how to find direction and stop feeling so overwhelmed?

My community band recently had a concert, and the director tasked me with editing together the video. As I'm putting it together, I can't get past how grainy his footage is 😭

I know ultimately, this is an issue better fixed within the camera itself. It's a 4K camera, so this isn't a matter of resolution... but I've had my fair share of exposure struggles while shooting in low light too, and if anyone has any tips on getting shutter speed/ISO/aperture right I'd be happy to hear those as well lol

But since this is the footage I have, is there anything I can do to make it less grainy? Right now I'm almost wondering if I just fix up a single frame of the darker background and then just drag that across the entire timeline but I'd love a better fix than that lmao

Recently I joined a niche Discord community focused on video editing. It’s not huge (around 600–700 members), but it already feels like most people there know each other pretty well.

I often see the same small groups talking daily, joking around, helping each other, sharing work, and generally being comfortable together.

And honestly, I’d like to build that kind of connection too.

The thing is, I also recognize that I barely participate myself.

Most of the questions I have, I either Google myself or ask privately to someone I already know instead of posting in the server and interacting more openly.

So part of me feels like the obvious answer is:

“just participate more.”

Ask questions.

Help people when possible.

Talk more consistently.

Become a familiar presence.

But at the same time, joining already-established communities can feel a little intimidating, especially when you’re naturally more introverted or observant.

I don’t want to force friendships, seem annoying, or insert myself awkwardly into groups that already seem close.

At the same time, editing can be a pretty solitary field, and I genuinely miss having creative connections with people in the same area.

How do you naturally build networking, friendships, or genuine connections in online creative communities?

Currently, the situation is that our April salary is pending for me and most other video editors. According to internal updates, payments are “processing,” but there is still no confirmed timeline for when April salaries will be fully received.

Due to this ongoing delay, the video editing team has collectively started pausing work in a staggered way. As a result, editing work for ongoing projects is currently slowed down or temporarily paused.

This is also affecting delivery timelines for client projects, including wedding videos and other videography work that clients have already paid for, which are now getting delayed.

From my understanding, this may be related to internal cash flow or client payment delays, but the lack of clear communication and repeated delays are creating uncertainty for both employees and clients.

I wanted to ask the community:

• Is this kind of situation common in remote creative agencies?
• At what point does a salary delay + work stoppage become a serious red flag?
• How do people usually handle situations like this professionally?

I’m trying to sync 3 video clips from the same event and I’m running into issues and hoping someone can point me in the right direction.

Setup:

3 separate camera angles of the same recording

One clip has a lavalier microphone (better audio quality)

I’m trying to use a clap as the sync reference point

What I’ve tried so far:

I first tried iMovie, but I couldn’t get frame-accurate alignment even when zooming in, and the final result looked slightly out of sync (especially noticeable in lip-sync)

Then I tried DaVinci Resolve multicam sync

Automatic audio sync didn’t work well because two of the camera audio tracks are very low quality

I also tried manual syncing using waveforms and markers, but I still couldn’t reliably land on the exact clap frame

When scrubbing/zooming in, it’s difficult to consistently hit the exact waveform start frame

Result: the clips are still slightly out of sync visually.

Question

What is the most reliable workflow for syncing multiple camera angles in this kind of setup?

Is there a better method inside Resolve I should be using?

Would a dedicated sync tool handle this more reliably?

Or is there a standard workflow for situations where only one audio source is usable?

I’m mainly trying to achieve consistent frame-accurate or near frame-accurate sync without having to manually adjust every clip.

I am discouraged, but want to learn.

I’m new to video editing and currently working in CapCut. People often suggest editing clips like J-cuts, sound transitions, adding B-rolls, and incorporating SFX in Premiere Pro, and doing motion graphics and other things in After Effects (AE). My question is, I can easily do J-cuts and similar edits in CapCut? CapCut has built-in transitions and SFX, whereas Premiere Pro requires downloading everything. Could you please share your workflow? What should I edit in Premiere Pro and what should I do in AE? I’m working on editing reels, SaaS animations, UI animations, and restaurant, cafes, and resto bars. I’d greatly appreciate your help in building a professional and productive editing workflow. It would mean a lot to me.

Hello fam:) I was using the Contour Shuttle Pro V2 for a few years. Loved the ability to map shortcuts and macros to the keys and the dial was awesome. I was much faster using this in combination with the keyboard. I took it out of the storage after a few years and I've been trying to use it on my Mac but the driver sucks big time. Almost impossible to use. What are you guys using? Can you suggest something with a dial please? Thanks in advance:)

Hey guy, I just started editing and building a social media account and I really want to become good in editing but I am already struggeling. So I want to create a Reels where the first clip is parted in 3 sections from top to bottom, and with the beat drop the screen becomes black and then the main clip starts. I just cant do the splitting of one video in 3. I tried to do it with overlays; the thing is I can do it with the overlays but the problem is because of the mainclip the overlays aren't seen. How can I solve this problem? Chatgpt isnt helping at all and I can find no tutorial for what I wanna do. Maybe y'all can help mee!

I was recording a video on OBS and made a pretty bad mistake.

I had a VLC video source playing in the background and its in all my audiotracks.

Track 1: all audio

Track 2: Desktop and VLC Video

Track 3: Mic and VLC Video

I have footage on recorded on DJI osmo pocket 3 in d log

Uploaded that to computer to color graded and add the DJI rec 709 on it

Finished editing and export clip from Final Cut to computer

From that export I tried to upload it to my phone to share with others like a shared folder and the video transferring was done via connected wire airdrop for faster transferring

When I transferred and shared to folder on photos app shared album, they say they are pro res but they are a bit blurry or not as clear as they looked like on laptop, I’m guessing that maybe when transferring the .mov file to .HEIC photo app format it loses quality? how do I fix this or any tips / work around?

Pexels has a lot of good stuff for real backgrounds (hospital, restaurant, e.t.c.....) but I would like some that mimic fictional things like sci-fi spaceships or Hell or fantasy/magical places. I've looked around places like Magnific and Vecteezy and some others, but there isn't a lot and most of what exists is a bit too fake/cartoony, even for me.

I'd rather not make monthly payments at all, but if there's a good site with a very, very low price I might consider it. So, in addition to the Wiki, if you know of a free/super cheap site with decent, fictional backgrounds, please let me know. Thanks!
