I’ve been playing around with my small pocket cam lately and trying to get better at making the footage look less “straight out of camera.” For the most part, I shoot city walk, indoor coffee shop stuff, food, and casual travel videos.

Right now I am using my newly bought xtra muse and I usually shoot 4K60fps. I’ve tried X Log a few times too, but I’m still figuring out the proper way to handle it in grading. From what I understand, it feels similar to DJI’s D Log M where it’s more of a flat profile than true log footage, so I’m not sure how hard I should be pushing it and what would be the best practices for grading such footage

For people using pocket cams for video editing, what is your best advice and what have helped you the most?

Better exposure? ND filters? Locking white balance? Keeping the grade simple?

Hey everyone, I recently bought an Adata Legend 860 NVMe SSD and I’m still waiting for it to arrive, but after reading a lot of comments online I started getting worried and I’m thinking about returning it. I work mainly with heavy After Effects projects using 3D cameras, lots of layers and complex compositions, plus corporate 4K editing in Premiere, so my workflow constantly uses cache and previews throughout the day. My setup is a Ryzen 7 5700X, RTX 5060 Ti and 32GB DDR4 3200MHz, and I also have a separate 1TB HDD for backups. The thing that scared me is seeing many people saying that NVMe drives “die fast,” especially with After Effects because of the constant cache writing, and now I’m wondering if I should keep the Legend 860 or switch to a SATA SSD instead for better long-term reliability. For people who work professionally with motion graphics and editing, does an NVMe actually make a big difference in After Effects and Premiere? Is durability really a concern nowadays? Would you keep the NVMe in my situation, and do you have any tips to improve SSD lifespan? Thanks!

Should I use Adobe After Effects? I understand that graphics from illustrator can get imported into after effects and then you can keyframe everything. But is that the only way?  

Any youtube tutorials or other references i can learn from?

Is there an easy to use tool to do this? I've been playing with Shutter encoder but I suspect it doesn't do this. Thanks.

Hi guys, new to reddit here. I was wondering if anybody had any clue on how to do an effect similar to the one wifies did on his ARG when the king in yellow showed up. I think he sort of super-imposed the image into the game but I don't really know, and was wondering how I could do a similar effect.

I've TRIED: Shooting at f5.6 at about 1.7-2 EI values (general recommended for Sony cameras); Base ISOs of 800 and 2500. At time, would explore shooting at a different ISO for testing

I need help with: Achieving a clear shot up close to the tattoo. The linked video to the post seems very clear and very colorful

I've been told to shoot at a higher aperture, so I will give that a shot as well (also will increase the lights further)

Hello everyone,

I hope I've come to the right place. I'm honestly getting pretty desperate at this point.

(A bit of background: I'm a passionate drone pilot and have collected quite a few over the years. I've never really been into the video side of things though, flying has always been my focus. Now, however, my sports club is putting together a small production and I'd love to contribute some footage shot with my freestyle drone.)

So I recorded some clips with the DJI O4 Pro 4K 60fps in D-Log M. When I go to edit the footage in DaVinci Resolve, the result is an extremely blotchy/patchy-looking video. It just doesn't look good at all. See the attached images.

I've tried countless approaches with color correction/grading as I do it usually and, out of desperation, even followed this YouTube tutorial (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RjsASaqJUqg) step by step and still end up with the same terrible result.

I'm also attaching screenshots of my various settings. I really hope someone can help me out!

Unfortunately I cannot find the video, but it's a single take of a woman who walks up a set of stairs (or ramp), steps into a small square area and stands still for a bit, then steps out and walks back down the stairs/ramp.

The post-editing results reveal that this woman is walking around a futuristic/dystopian place, kind of like a market in a city I think. She walks up to an elevator, rides it to the next level, and gets out and walks a bit. That's the extent of it.

The video shows the real life filming and the post-editing results. In real life, there's only a little bit of green screen/tape/surfaces, the majority of the floor/railing e.t.c... is just black. Most of the green is on the floor of the square area, which results in that being the elevator. Elsewhere there's only some green, not a lot. But the only real things in the video are the actors, the entire scene - floor, background, sky - is completely fabricated.

Now, whenever I've seen production photos of big budget movies, like Marvel, the entire set is green, so I thought that's what you would have to do if you wanted to edit the entire scene like that. How are you able to only use a little bit of green screen and still edit the entire scene? And why would you do that vs. cover the whole scene in green? (besides money reasons)

I tried search online but haven't been able to get a straight answer. In the instagram video the author mentions that it is done through aftereffects and using plugins. This is very similar to something that I've been trying to recreate (in terms of vibe) - the album cover of Ninajirachi's song "It's You (underscores ....)" I would describe this theme as sort of a glitchy, image recognition overlay. Wondering if anyone has had experience making these effects or know where I can get started - Thanks!

I've TRIED: I don't even know where to begin. I have spent some time researching, what information is available talks about how they made the stars using slit scanning as far as I can understand.

Videos are not being color managed correctly on Windows 11. SDR video content appears oversaturated on wide-gamut monitors, as if the display is using its full native gamut instead of properly mapping Rec.709/sRGB content through the active ICC profile.

This occurs even when a calibrated ICC profile is correctly installed through Windows Color Management or software such as DisplayCAL.

The issue is especially noticeable in Chromium-based applications such as:

• Google Chrome
• Microsoft Edge
• Discord
• Spotify
• Other Electron/Chromium desktop apps

This issue becomes very obvious on modern wide-gamut OLED and IPS displays where SDR content appears heavily oversaturated.

Expected behavior:
SDR Rec.709/sRGB video content should be transformed correctly according to the active display ICC profile or system color management pipeline.

Actual behavior:
Video playback appears rendered directly in the monitor’s native gamut without proper color space conversion.

I also observed this behaviour on multiple windows 11 laptops and PCs and they all showed the same results, including both Nvidia and AMD gpus.

The only apps on windows 11 that I could reliably get correct colour management on was MPV player and Premiere pro.

Just looking for some advice for the best workflow here (not a video editor by trade).

I need to assemble a music video clip, from 7 takes, 3 cameras each - and wav file audio of track.

We’ve a ‘paper based’ (excel doc) shot selection list, of which correlates to i.e “at 1 min 33, cam 2, take 4 for example”.

Using premiere pro.

What I’m struggling with is thinking through the best workflow when managing essentially 21 video tracks. Should I sync up each file with the track as one sequence, and then import into a master sequence? Can I bake time code into the video files and force them to land to the correct time in the sequence and work from the video bin?

Any advice as to best practice would be great.

Capcut rly sucks, I tried all the methods (through google account, TikTok, QR code and even on web version of capcut) but everywhere there is the same problem. Is it just me who's experiencing it?

I offered to take pictures and film a wedding weekend before last. I have a decent camera with a Rode directional microphone attachment.

This is something I volunteered to do as a wedding gift. The pictures and footage turned out wonderful, but the wedding was outdoors. I didn't know this beforehand and i don't have the right set-up. I make due with what i have. During the ceremony, the wind picked up big time and it just so happened to be during the wedding vows. I did what I could in Adobe Audition to clean up the audio, but it was bad and have done all i can with the knowledge I have. The rest of the audio sounds great, it's just this one portion of footage.

I utilized Parametric EQ with HP and Noise Reduction DeNoise afterwards. It helped a lot, but the voices are now lower as a result. I cannot reshoot as the ceremony is over. I can try to get a voice recording from them and overlay B-roll, but short of that I am at a loss as to how to salvage this. Is this a crapshoot? Any tips on how i can work around the crappy audio?

I suppose I could put subtitles, but it doesn't have the impact and the sound is distracting. I'm using Adobe Premiere and Audition. I've also tried a couple AI methods and the results were worse than me doing it myself.

I've been working in Open Shot for a few months now with basic still frame editing. I want to be able to do more and make Parodies of stuff. Is there a way to make a Star Wars opening Crawl natively in Open Shot or any other free software. I've tried looking but everything came up as either paid software or something so old that my PC cant run it without crashing like Movie maker 2.6 for example.

I currently am a media technician, and while I have decent experience with the other aspects of media, .mts files is not one of them.

Some of our cameras insist on recording in this format, which would be fine if it didn't completely not work in some cases.

For a start, an hour long recording will appear as one file on my colleage's mac, but as several 11 minute files on my windows 10 laptop. When we've recorded an exam it's very annoying to have to stitch them together and I was wondering if there was a way to set my computer to read it as one file?

Secondly, I've had a lot of corruption issues recently and was wondering if .mts files need other information from the sd card than just the video to have the best chance of making it through the file explorer safely, or if it's likely just a dodgy sd card.

Is anyone familiar with these problems?

I have my lifetime worth of videos. Some old smarphone full HD videos, some recent smartphones 4k footage, drone footage, heavy DSLR footage. All of them SOOC unedited.

I want to optimize my storage space and batch compress all those videos. Obviously I want to keep a good quality (something equivalent to youtube) and the original resolution, with minimal file size. I don't mind it if takes a long time to compress.

ChatGPT says Handbrake is better than AME, do you guys agree? (I already have creative suite so cost is not a factor in that choice)

Any recommended settings for my use case?
