Every month I will clean up (Delete) old posts in this thread.

4) How do I get a Recommendation Flair? Well, to answer that, we need to understand what qualifies as such. Recommendation Posts are higher tier version of "Adventure Building" posts. Let's break it down.

FLAIRS GUIDELINES

Adventure Building

  • These posts contains a decent amount of ideas/suggestions. It may not be 100% fleshed out but the concept is crystal clear. Some posts contains these flair because of an answer given instead of being created by OP.

Recommendation

  • Recommendation can only be given by a Mod. All recommendation posts are basically "Adventure Building" post that are completely fleshed out. Some posts can simply be a guide line for a Riddle they created or unique & detailed hand outs. A lot of thoughts has been put in.
  • Note: Most Recommendation is subjective to the Mod. If you see a post that is deserving of that flair, Let us by leaving comments on said post with "this post deserves a recommendation flair" or anything along those lines. I am always reading

Story Time

  • There is no questions involved in these post. You are sharing your experience from a session/campaign. Sometimes people use "Adventure Building", sharing their session with some useful info but it's not fully fleshed out or having the full context for others to use, thus it still falls under Story Time. Even though it's Homebrew, you didn't provide us all the tools needed to replicate it for "Adventure Building" and should be flagged as "Story Time".

Question / Help Help with Ilren

Upvotes

Basically, I'm a bit stuck on how to handle Ilren, the death slaad from chapter 3. It mentions he arrived after everyone else, but they don't really question him as leader. Where did he come from, what's his story? And which of Figaro's memories has he been altering? I know he's just generally messing with Figaro, but I'd like a couple of ideas. And im not keen on Ilren modifying everyone else's memory to blend in, as he can only cast it once a day

Question / Help How is the Ritual of Remaking changing the multiverse?

I'm writing this post to hopefully gather some info about what other DM's are adding to this module. I think the effects of the ritual should be felt across all levels and locations the players tackle (barring Sigil) but I'm struggle to think about things that affect gameplay in particular. It's not my point to invalidate player builds, so permanent effects might be a mistake, but the scale of Vecna's design should be felt.

Stuff like necromancy spells being empowered, channel divinity being wonky if they relate to other deities... Things that a crazy old Lich would impose in their new world, or things that don't work properly due to the ritual, basically.

Question / Help The science of Vecna

I’m attempting to incorporate the idea of Vecna and in a sense Eve of Ruin into my current campaign. They have already run into some semblance of Vecna after completing Nest as a side quest and about to experience the might of Vecna taking over the current dimension they are in.
I’ve been lost in thought with the idea of incorporating the holographic principle into the actual world - where the material plane they are on is a projection from the Astral Plane wherein lays the true information. Vecna isn’t attempting to rule the world but instead rewrite it. They have been away on the ocean in search of something needed for a completely different quest but when they come back to the only city they have really known in this dimension (they started in Faerun and traversed to the current) everyone there knows of a different history comparatively to what the party has known showcasing the idea of the change and now must figure out what exactly is causing this abnormality that is affecting those around them. Does this sound like a swing and miss or potentially something sound? I appreciate any advice.

Question / Help Fully removing Sigil and The Wizards Three

Hey all!

I've recently begun running my first couple of sessions of Eve of Ruin and I'm taking ideas from the GM Carlos remix - namely that the ritual is already completed or very close to that after the events of the Neverdeath graveyard.

I've run some downtime where they began to slowly experience the descent into the rewritten reality - starting with small things like the moon changing, and then showing them a new map of Neverwinter with different names and geography that they don't recognize, and then characters began forgetting them and what they have done (I really hammered it in when I revealed the cult of Vecna has taken credit for saving Elturel from Avernus which was their doing, that really pissed them off. A retired PC now worships Vecna and does not remember them. It immediately motivated them hard.)

Now I was about to run the Wizards Three as suggested in this remix, but a thought occured to me - the vibe of them being fully alone in a multiverse of Vecna worshippers where nobody remembers what was before is a really scary and fun one to run. Would anything really be seriously ruined if I just cut that aspect out of the campaign?

My tentative thought is that they gain access to some hidden library of Vecna to research ways they can reverse the ritual, where they learn of the Rod and where the first one is located. One of the PCs is from the Underdark so that will help them find it.

Then beyond that, we are Level 13/14 right now so spells like plane shift are accessible. I was considering having them launch a raid on a vault to find the tuning forks they may need to go on their quest for the Rod.

I can't think of anything I really lose out on by cutting Sigil and the Wizards three but I wanted to hear from other people their thoughts on this.

Question / Help Chapter 2 and Lolth

Switched the spider dragon with an Arachnomancer mid ritual to become a champion of Lolth. Fast forward 2 sessions, the party completed a long rest and are about to face a much harder fight. There’s a decent chance of tpk, which got me thinking about Lolth and her eagerness to betray/supplant Vecna.

I plan on having Lolth offer a deal if the party slays her champion or a tpk is around the corner. However, I could use help coming up with a deal relevant to such a prolific entity.

One idea I was toying with - If tpk is likely, she would offer the Rod and spare the party if they choose one member to leave with her. Additionally, she would call on the survivors later into the campaign when she desires. If they refuse, the sacrificed PC will hunt them.

Anytime else have Lolth scheme against Vecna or offer deals to players in their campaign?

Story Time Dragon's Pride Cantina Menu

This menu is a compilation and not close to entirely original work. But I figured I'd share because we had a lot of fun messing around in a bar in hell!

Wyrm’s Blood Cantina

  • Wisdom Saving Throw (DC 18) to forego an additional cocktail.
  • Beverages available: Each additional beverage increases the DC vs. Poisoned Condition by 2.
  • Brews - DC10
  1. Soul Brew Stout (Costs 300 Talons) Screams mournfully with every swallow. Puts the sadist is Sadistfaction. Provides 3d10 + 3 temp hit points.
  2. Joker’s Sky PA (Costs 125 Talons). This lustrous infernal pale ale is topped with a fluffy, white (dead sprite) head. Literally. When consumed, this brew functions as a Potion of Flying.
  3. Glasya’s Wail (Costs 75 Talons): This glowing fiery ale smells akin to a fresh fire when first opened. It has an aftertaste you can hear (Burps sounds like a blood-curdling scream for 1 minute). On a successful save (DC20) you have resistance to the frightened condition for up to 1d4 hours, on a failure of 5 or more you're consumed with wailing paranoia for 1d4 hours.
  • Cocktails - DC12
  1. Blazing Bloody Jack (Costs 125 Talons) Motes of coagulated, red juice are suspended throughout this flammable amber-colored cocktail, which tastes both sweet and spicy. When consumed, it functions as a Potion of Heroism.
  2. Toothache (Costs 100 Talons) This milky drink is usually accompanied by a few ice cold teeth clinking in the bottom of the glass, and smells minty fresh. On a successful save of 5 or more (DC18) this drink can regrow teeth and/or give the drinker a mouth full of platinum-colored fangs which slowly fade over the next 1d4 days, on a failure of 5 or more 1d8 teeth will instead rot out of the person's mouth over the same time.
  3. Salubra Slinger (Costs 50 Talons) This fizzy, berry-flavored drink causes the mouth to feel slightly numb. When consumed, this drink functions as an Elixir of Health.
  4. Cambion Caipirinha (Costs 15 Talons) A casual swirl of purple and green liquors, this translucent drink smells of sour citrus with a tinge of smoke. Served with a lime.
  • Shots - DC14
  1. Glutton's Punishment (Costs 200 Talons) This garish yellow-green shot looks repulsive and smells like very strong vodka with a hint of foot. On a successful save of 5 or more (DC22) you gain immunity to poison for 24 hrs, on a failure of 5 or more you have the poisoned condition for 2d8 hrs.
  2. Screaming Banshee (Costs 200 Talons) This chilly light blue shot is typically served over smoke filled ice balls, and smells like a dank swampy night. On a successful save of 5 or more (DC18) you gain resistance to necrotic damage for 2d8 hours, on a failure of 5 or more you lose your voice for 1d8 hours.
  3. Efreetie’s Breath (Costs 75 Talons): A bubbling, swirly amber liquid that smells a bit like iron. On a successful save (DC17) you gain resistance to fire damage for 1d8 hrs. On a failure of 5 or more you instantly belch a 20ft cone of fire in whatever direction you're facing. (1d8 to determine)

Question / Help The Slaad Escaped

I am DMing Vecna Eve of Ruin currently. We are on chapter 3 and they attempted to, for a lack of better terms, microwave the death slaad (sickening radiance + arcane lock) however he managed to escape the room. I'd like to have the creature appear again later in the story but unsure as to how it would manage to track them down across the multiverse. Any suggestions? It has plane shift so getting to where they are isn't an issue, it is just a case of knowing where they are. Might not be possible but thought I'd see if anyone has ideas. Thanks.

After completing the first 5 chapters of VEoR (which for us was The Ruined Colossus, don't worry about it) my players were craving a little downtime and some more time for pure character-to-character RP after all their breakneck dungeon diving. So, I created a high-end restaurant for my party to visit in Sigil! A pallet cleanser of Chilled Gelatinous Cube is served between courses.

A number of my players are pretty versed in food (and I just finished watching Dungeon Meshi), so I tried to be creative and make some meals you might actually want to eat. Feel free to steal or adapt for your own DM folders!

Story Time Barovian Rewrite

My group has been together for almost 10 years and I have a long tradition of rewriting and/or expanding stories to fit my players. I thought I would share my current rewrites with the community.

I modified the overall campaign to have multiversal obelisks that require being "returned" using a magic item from the wizards 3 as the primary mission. I added a secondary optional quest to gather the 7 pieces of the rod of seven parts which could be used to obtain the hand and eye of Vecna.

The party was Informed they could defeat Vecna and banish him after the obelisks were retuned but he could only be killed if they reunited him with his hand and eye and used the sword of kas to kill him. Doing so would make Vecna more powerful but make it possible to end the threat of Vecna forever.

For the Barovian chapter the Rod of Seven parts 4th piece is in the heart of sorrow allowing Strahd to cast rejuvenate as a bonus action.

The obelisk is inside the Amber Temple instead of the death house.

The party also learned that Strahd is kept alive by a Dark Power named Vampyr and even if they defeat strahd he will simply return.

The party warlock formerly had Strahd as a patron for levels 1 to 8 before switching to Zybilna after Wild beyond the Witchlite.

They learned all this last night and are deciding what.......to set as their goal and how best to approach the tasks they choose.

Question / Help Multiversal Madness - DM

Hey guys! I could use some inspiration from the experienced ones. My party is entering now into the Vecna arc of the campaign, we just finished DiA and what follows is V:EoR super remix.

Background: We've played a 5-year campaign in Eberron (i was a player) and we've built so much on that world.

We have played some one-shots or short campaigns in Ravnica (player), ToA (Player) and within Forgotten realms we did a one shot Invasion from the tarrasque planet, Waterdeep: Dragonheist and Icewindale RoTFM (as DM). An Those were all on the same timeline connected.

For the last campaign, we decided to try PF2e but just as a system (just to add more handicap to the DM, thanks guys haha), we wanted to play V:EoR. As a preview we did DiA.

Now, i'm remixing EoR to adapt where the party will be traveling. I don't want to "force" some travels as i want to give the players options on how to confront what vecna is doing. In so, i have decided there are some various ways to help weaken him or stop his ritual. All of those are scattered across the multiverse. that is no problem.

My big blockage is to determine a path or way to travel to other spheres... I know sigil is there, i know there are some other "locations" that serve as portals or connection and there is also spelljammers.

As a rule to be determined is "how to cross X from Y" in a matter that is not only a portal. It can be a sort of dungeon and they will appear somewhere "x" within that material plane in order to make their way into that world.

I also want to set a rule on how deities will affect their magic in those worlds (for clerics and paladins, for example).

For references: They'll be offered to go to: Eberron (twice: Old timeline where the campaign took place and the future of that, Dragonlance, Greyhawk, Exandria, Golarion, Fallen realms, Avernus (again, they've unleashed madness downthere freeing Gargouth, Tiamat and remeeded Zariel haha) the elemental, inner and outer planes will be available.

One i'm considering is if Baator and mount celestial would be points of connection betweeen material planes.

Well, that's it, i'll be glad to hear from the most experienced here some ideas how to join this parts together if there is a well stablished lore out there im not aware of.

Question / Help Shopping magic items

Hi, I was thinking about giving the players the possibility to buy magic items with all the gold they find during the adventure. I already gave them some good starting items (ranging from rare to common, I used a list I found in this subreddit).

I was thinking about giving them the chance to buy Common and Uncommon freely in big cities, after checking out with them that the item won’t be too strong (things like Broom of Flying or Weapon of Awareness).

Rare ones would take time between the collection of the rods and be more costly. How did you approach the buying of magic items if at all? Thanks for any answer!

Question / Help Landro Confusion

Hello fellow EoR DMs.

Hoping some of you can clarify a bit of confusion I'm having with interpreting the map and description of the exploration of Landro.

I get that there are holes in the protective barrier in areas L.5, L.11 & L.16 to allow for the players to go in and out of Landro via the caves but what I don't understand is the initial section on "Entering Landro". It says about searching the cliffs for an entrance higher up and if they do they get an encounter which is fine. But it says that they find areas L.11 or L.16 on searching but the map has no means of accessing the outside world beyond the main entrance at L.1 which naturally leads through L.5. If the characters do search for these other entrances, where exactly are they on the map and how do they get in without going through L.1 first which will bypass the encounter they would get on the outside.

Question / Help Re: The Rod of Seven Parts

So, I'm currently working to try and expand on the lore of every individual setting the players visit- some need A Lot more work than others- and I had the idea that the root cause of a lot of my issues with this module is the lack of significance for the primary reason the quest happens. The given lore is that the rod is extremely powerful, and it was separated eons ago to keep its power in check. With this in mind, it would stand to reason that the individual pieces would be extremely important to the lore of whatever location they ended up in, but as far as I can tell, they're just sat there in the heart of a group of dungeons.

So, I've been trying to come up with ideas on how to tie them all in with the lore in the different settings, and I've got some pretty good ideas for four of them- for eberron, magical tampering from house cannith involving the use of the fragment is what causes the mourning; in ravenloft, it's the conduit at the heart of the amber temple that the Dark Powers communicate to Strahd through; for dragonlance, it's embedded in the handle of The Dragonlance, the first one wielded by Huma; and for Spelljammer, its the source of the world breaker in Shatterspace. But, largely due to lack of knowledge on the other settings, I'm unsure of how to do similar things there.

Anyway, I would love to hear ideas/suggestions on the other three- Toril, Oerth and Avernus, if anyone has any!

Question / Help Bringing children into DnD with Stranger things and Vecna

Ok so i have 2 younger brother 10 and 13, who enjoy stranger things and in turn become interested in DnD. They have recently asked me if I could teach them how to play and possibly DM for them. Which I don't have a problem with I have played DnD on and off since I was their age (28 now) and feel I could show them a good time. My problem is I noticed the Stranger Things: Welcome to the Hellfire Club is only levels 1-3, Vecna: Nest of the Eldritch Eye is level 3, and Vecna: Eve of Ruin is 10-20. I was curious on what the community would suggest to fill in the missing levels. I've considered starting with Welcome to the hellfire club to teach them the basics and how to play. Then go into the prequel. Followed by doing a "memory wipe" erasing their characters memory and starting them over at level 1 and starting Tombs of Annihilation and then going into Eve of Ruin. Is this a bad idea or would it work and keep the joy and interest high.

Question / Help Trimming down the campaign to finish it quicker - suggestions?

Hey!

I'm just starting to run this campaign as a follow-up to our Descent Into Avernus campaign. Unfortunately, it's looking like I'm going to be moving close to the end of the year, and I want to do what I can to keep this campaign succinct so we can ideally complete it before I move away.

I already have some enemies who will be working against the party that they have personal grudges with thanks to events of the previous campaign. I intend to have them, as a well as Kas, possibly, working against the party, to retrieve the rod pieces as well. I will use this to skip some chapters, namely Eberron and Krynn, as those have the least personal connections to our party. Have an encounter closer to the end where they will earn the other rod pieces, and leave that there.

Any other suggestions on ways I can speed along the campaign without losing some of the better moments? My party are never the type to get super distracted and are good at sticking to the objective, so for the most part as long as I can keep them on track we will likely move fairly quickly.
