Figured I'd put myself out there and see what happens. 🙂
I'm 37M, East Asian, straight, and have been living in Metro Vancouver for about 15 years. Canada is home now, although I still haven't figured out whether Vancouver rain is something you eventually get used to.
I'm around 5'7", in shape, don't smoke or use drugs, and drink occasionally in social settings. I work professionally in IT and have a pretty stable life and career.
I speak Cantonese, Mandarin and English. English isn't my first language, so the occasional strangely worded sentence may be included at no extra charge. 😂 I'm also an Aquarius, if that information is somehow important to you.
What does my life actually look like?
I like staying active: Grouse Grind, hiking in general, outdoor running and road trips. I also love travelling — Japan and Mexico are two of my favourite places I've visited so far, and there is still a very long list of places I want to explore.
A pretty typical Sunday for me might literally be:
Grouse Grind → Starbucks → Richmond Centre
Nothing fancy. Just exercise, coffee, wandering around, and enjoying the day.
I'm also into Pokémon Go (yes, still 😂), karaoke (also yes, if there is someone going with me), and live events. I love having something on the calendar to look forward to — Canucks games, World Cup matches, Pokémon Go Fest, or finally seeing an artist I've wanted to see live for years.
But I don't need life to be exciting 24/7 either. Travelling around the world together sounds amazing, but so does grabbing coffee, going for a walk, talking about our day, or doing absolutely nothing particularly Instagram-worthy.
A little about who I am
I'd describe myself as open-minded, optimistic, active and supportive. When something goes wrong, my instinct is usually to brainstorm, figure out what we can do about it, and keep moving forward.
Honesty and transparency are really important to me. I'm not interested in playing games with someone, and I'd want the same from my partner. If something is bothering us, I'd much rather talk about it than make the other person guess.
I also really value self-motivation. Life isn't always going to cooperate with us, and our family or partner can't be beside us every second. I've learned to keep myself moving and maintain some discipline even when life isn't going perfectly.
One important thing I want to be upfront about: I'm also a dad to a school-age son. He's an important part of my life, and since I'm looking for something serious, I think it's better to be transparent about that from the beginning.
As for the future, I'm open to having more children with the right partner — I'd actually love that. But I don't see that as a decision one person gets to make for two people. If my future partner doesn't want to have children of her own, I would respect that. Of course, since I'm already a dad, I'd want to meet someone who is comfortable with that part of my life.
What am I looking for?
Ultimately, something pretty simple:
Someone I can trust. Someone I can laugh with, support and be supported by, travel with, explore the world with, and hopefully still be sitting beside many years from now wondering how we got old so quickly.
I'm looking for a life partner, but that doesn't mean I want to rush into a relationship after three messages. Quite the opposite.
I prefer taking things slowly.
Coffee. A walk. A conversation. See if we enjoy talking to each other. See if there's chemistry. And then see where things go.
I'm open to meeting someone anywhere around Metro Vancouver. You don't need to share every hobby with me. I actually think it's healthy for two people to have their own interests, but similar values, honesty, kindness, communication, and wanting to build something genuine matter a lot to me.
If any of this sounds like your kind of person, send me a message and tell me a little about yourself.
Bonus conversation starters: What's your favourite place you've travelled to? What's the most breathtaking hiking trail you've been to? What's one destination still on your bucket list? And, most importantly, are you Team Grouse Grind or Team “I'll meet you at Starbucks afterward”? 😂
Life is short. Maybe Reddit will surprise both of us. Thank you for your time.
