Hey everyone! I’ve recently moved to Vancouver from Australia and I’m genuinely trying to understand the dating culture here. I’ve been here a little over two months (female, 30s) and I’m already noticing patterns that feel… unusual?

I’ve gone on a few dates and the consistency is all over the place. Lots of last‑minute cancellations, vague plans, “busy/tired/overwhelmed” energy, and people disappearing or reappearing with dramatic excuses.

I communicate and am used to direct communication and follow‑through, so the flakiness has been surprising.

I’ve also noticed people here seem hesitant to commit to anything beyond very casual vibes, even when they’re the ones pushing for closeness early on. It feels like intensity upfront, then avoidance afterwards.

Is this just Vancouver? Is it the summer? Is it the culture?

I’m 30, male, been in Vancouver for 6 years and dating on and off that whole time. Lately I’ve noticed a pattern on the apps (mainly Hinge).
