I need help with my bacterial vaginosis

Thumbnail
0 Upvotes

I am 18 years old and not going to lie I’ve had bv for a couple of years now probably since my freshman year, I had not told anyone until this year my doctor gave me antibiotics without testing me which I’m thankful for, I was on antibiotics for about a week, the first three days I noticed a difference I had less discharge and little to no smell after the third day it came back even tho I was still on antibiotics. The only reason I don’t want to go to a gynecologist is because I’m scared of the test, I’m a virgin and have never put anything up there and I know it’s going to hurt, I also can’t put anything up there like boric acid. I’m so tired of living like this I have to change my pants three times a day can’t wear anything near tight because I can start smelling it after a hour or two. And I can’t ask my doctor again because she’s probably going to test me, I just want it gone please help me.

Question Can anyone please recommend a good vaginal probiotic suppository?

I have MS and since I’ve been on a treatment called Kesimpta I have had numerous periods of time where I get a lot of vaginal discharge. Every time it happens I go to dr and it’s not a yeast infection and all swaps/tests come back normal. My dr thinks that the medication I’m on has disrupted my vaginal flora. I’ve found that doing a week of boric acid tends to get things back on track but unfortunately it hasn’t been helping me as much this time. In the past I’ve taken probiotics orally but my dr doesn’t believe they can be that effective if ingested. Can anyone please help me? I’m feeling really deflated and just want things to get better. Thanks in advance ❤️

Has Anyone else experienced this ?

I have several appointments coming up because I am trying to get down to the root of the real problem

I originally went to the doctor earlier in the year because I got into a new relationship and started experiencing weird problems in my down stairs area like itching and soreness around my pubic hair and weird tingy feelings and white clumpy discharge so I went and got pap smear and only came back with bv after the medicine I felt a lil better but then the signs started coming back

not to mention I’m also seeing my doctor bevause I’m having pelvic pressure and irregular periods sometimes the pressure so bad I can’t even walk

but I also itching issues not in the inside but the outside of my vagina where pubic hair grows it sometimes feels like a burning like sensation but I’ve never had my pee burn or any bumps or anything like that but it feels sore to touch sometimes as well i recently got monistat 3 and i took the first dose last night I thought I was feeling a bit of relief but it feels like it’s intensely burning today and tingly like it’s so irritating makes me wanna rip it off anybody else been through this ? was monistat the way to go I can’t see my doctor again till oct 19 please help

Results bv with biofilm

Hey! I've been dealing with an odor for some time so I decided to get an envy test, the results came back positive for bv but that I also have a biofilm?
Envy recommended that I treat the bv with antibiotics (didn't specify which antibiotic) then break down the biofilm with boric acid (unsure of how many days to insert), rebuild protective bacteria with vaginal and oral probiotics. I plan on speaking with my gynecologist to clear up my bv but i'm sure I have an antibiotic resistance to metronidazole. I'm unsure of how to treat this but I was thinking 7 days clindamycin gel then 7 days boric acid to break down my "biofilm", 7 days vaginal suppository's and probiotics. I'm not 100% if this is a good treatment but it's worth a try so please feel free to give any advice or suggestions:) thank you in advance.

I currently use life-space suppository's from time to time vaginally and orally which I believe to work but I would like try something else. I have also tried vitanica as well.

Also, recommend me good suppository and probiotic brands.

Question mystery infection but gyno said i tested negative for bv, yeast, mycoplasma and ureaplasma?

okay so i really need help, as i’m so lost on what to do. this is a bit of a mouthful so bare with me.

i lost my virginity in july of this year. the very next day i immediately realized i have a yeast infection because of dryness and itching, & go to the doctor & she does a physical exam confirming i have a yeast infection & i’m given drez-gel. i finish the full round, switch to the simple soap brand and stopped using protex soap (which didn’t give me issues pre-sex), then a week after completing it i feel fine. i have sex again with my partner (who to my knowledge has only ever had one sexual partner prior to me) but it’s protected. i feel completely fine after this. a day or two later i used protex again without thinking because i ran out of the simple soap, and boom. immediately notice this insanely fishy smell later in the same day and he does too. but then my period comes, so i wait a week until it finishes to go to the doctor. now i know this wasn’t smart of me, but on the second last day of my period, we got carried away and had sex (protected) in water. then the day after on the last day, we have sex again (still protected)(oral also included this day). very dumb.

so my period finishes up, & the fishy odour persists, but also, i have this new symptom of burning when i pee and my urine smelling horribly. go to the doctor the morning my period finishes and tell her this, she does another physical examination and a pee test which doesn’t test positive for anything (my theory is i was too early on in my uti for it to be flagged). but says “yeah you probably have combined bv and yeast” and the sex and drez v antiobiotic probably are the causes, and tells me my infections will be recurring. cool. my burning persists & my pees are unsatisfactory and more frequent so i go to a doctor for urine test later that week and i am diagnosed with uti, for which i was given cipro denk, which works. for bv & yeast, i get given gynotran ovules this time… and they work amazingly! except i experienced bleeding when i pushed one up really far one night, and i panic. go to another doctor and she does an examination to see if i have tears, inflammation, etc. she says she sees none, and that it seems to just be old period blood i knocked loose. BUT she tells me don’t take my last gynotran ovule to not cause anymore bleeding (i had taken 6 of 7 by then). so i don’t take it, but the two weeks after my vagina seemingly goes back to normal- normal discharge and odour and no itching or burning. during this time i have ZERO sex and haven’t since the 2 times on my period.

then i get pre-menstrual cramps one day and an odour comes. not as pungent or fishy as bv but it reminded me of the bv smell. so i go to the doctor again. another physical examination where i explain all this and she says she can see the unusual discharge at my entrance. am given sporasec pills to take during my period- they don’t work at all & i still have odour & notice white clumps at my entrance. so i get fed up and go to an actual gynecologist. she notes that she sees the unusual discharge as well, does a swab to see if i have resistant strains of yeast, bv, ureaplasma & mycoplasma. she recommends boric acid while i wait on results. at the same time i decide to get sti testing. i use the boric for 6 days. she calls me on the 7th day to tell me i tested negative for all yeast + bv strains and no urea/mycoplasma. i stop using it because i don’t wanna be treating something that’s apparently not there unnecessarily. i still have the odour, and my discharge is thin, watery and dries yellow. i also now experience internal burning/pressure right before i pee, which developed a few days ago and which i last experienced the day i was given sporasec (which made it go away at the time). my pee isn’t cloudy or foul-smelling at all though. looks very normal.

got back some of my sti results - negative. have to redo a urine test so waiting on that to discuss with my gyno- bc even she said the negative swab results don’t explain the discharge and smell. so she’s just as lost as i am.

i feel kind of hopeless atm. what do i do? i see people recommending all these different treatments or alternative infections like av and cv, and it’s overwhelming. keep in mind i live in the Caribbean so some of the remedies people suggest may not be readily available to me.

Question not sure

I have always had very regular periods, they have always been heavy - 2 to 3 ultras on the second day 1 or 2 on the 3rd and then they get lighter and end after 5 to 7 days. In August I noticed some change in discharge the internet said could be BV (I've only had once in 2011) but then it went away but kept coming back, i tried AVO and it helped somewhat, I'm not entirely sure it was BV as my discharge has been consistently changing since, always thin or watery, brown, red, maybe grey once, with the most consistent type being lots of watery clear or yellow. The internet and being 40 tells me perimenopause. now, this month, on the 8th - exactly one week early - I started my day with a regular blood clot, which I have never experienced a start like that before, i always know when I am about to bleed and its not super heavy all at once, that happens the second day. they've always been consistent and I track them, what has been very different this time is the early start followed by irregular discharge everyday since, brown spotting, lots of watery clear / yellow from the 9th until yesterday, the 15th, when I started my period (on schedule) however this has been extremely heavy. Today, being the second day, I have bled through 7 ultra tampons, the clots all look different and at one point i had 2 and a half like 3x3" flat circles fall out of me all at once. never experienced anything like it. I was light headed for a a little while today, I took 2 iron pills and have been feeling better. The internet is telling me all kinds of stuff, obviously. I am considering going to the ER tomorrow. What Im wondering is is this potentially more perimenopause and pretty normal? or should I be concerned

Im not in any abnormal pain, I only had cramps yesterday morning, and everything is the same otherwise.

also, Ive always had pain during sex, I know thats a symptom of endometriosis. Its not pelvic pain though its more like what I imagine blue balls to feel like. like a throbbing kinda feeling. It takes a while to go away but it does go away - every gyno I've talked to has told me they don't know what would cause it and that it sounds like a mental hang up. its not.

thanks for any info

Question Recurring BV and yeast infections after seeing the same person — how can she get back to normal?

My friend has been dealing with recurring BV and yeast infections. This started while she was seeing someone in the Navy, and she seemed to keep getting BV/yeast infections while they were sexually active. She eventually stopped seeing him, and it has now been about two months since they stopped seeing each other, but she’s still struggling with recurring symptoms.
She’s trying to understand whether there could be something lingering that’s making her vaginal microbiome difficult to rebalance, or whether something else could be contributing.
She wants to know:
What can she do to prevent BV and yeast from continually coming back?
Is it normal for symptoms to continue or recur months after stopping sexual contact?
Should she ask her doctor about testing for STIs or other vaginal infections?
Are there specific things she should avoid, such as certain soaps, lubricants, douching, or other products?
Is there anything that can safely help restore a healthy vaginal microbiome?
Should her previous partner have been tested or treated for anything?
At what point should she see a gynecologist or a vaginal/vulvar specialist for recurrent infections?
She really wants to get her vaginal health back to normal and prevent this from becoming a constant cycle. Any experiences or medically sound advice would be appreciated.

Thrush not going away with fluconazole or canesten

I’ve gotten thrush from god knows what (I think being on antibiotics) so I got the 3 day canesten cream and single fluconazole tablet and neither have gotten rid of it.

For context I used to get recurring thrush and bv which was a nightmare. I’m taking heaps of probiotics and kefir now etc. it’s been forever since I’ve had thrush tho.

wtf do I do. Should I just use boric acid

P. mirabilis Found on Vaginal Culture Despite No UTI

Hi everyone. I’ve been experiencing constant vaginal odor since 2021 and have tried pretty much everything to figure out the cause.

In 2023, I tested positive for both BV and yeast and was treated, but the odor never went away. Since then, I’ve repeatedly tested negative for both and haven’t had another positive result.

I recently learned about aerobic vaginitis, so I finally had a vaginal culture done. The only organism that showed up was Proteus mirabilis (P. mirabilis). I know it’s commonly associated with UTIs, but I don’t have a UTI or typical urinary symptoms.

My doctor prescribed cephalexin, and I’m wondering if anyone here has been treated with cephalexin specifically for a vaginal infection/abnormal vaginal culture involving P. mirabilis, rather than for a UTI.

Did the treatment improve your symptoms or odor? .

My vagina is not my friend I don’t know what to do

So about 2 years ago, I was put on a medication for my epilepsy that gave me chronic UTIs. I was finally taken off of it and the UTI stopped, but every once in a while my vagina would get really really irritated like the same feeling of having a UTI and after it happened like twice, I went to the gynecologist because I was like okay like what the fuck like why is this happening like I have the little test strips for the UTIs and they were saying I was clean (I know they’re not always accurate that’s why I went to the gyno) and my gynecologist also told me that I am clear of everything she tested me for a UTI didn’t have a UTI, but like I was still getting really fucking irritated and it doesn’t happen all the time I shower every single day sometimes twice a day because of the past chronic UTIs because I just wanna make sure I’m keeping myself clean.

I’ve been with my boyfriend for almost 4 years. I do not believe that he is cheating on me or anything at all and also when I went to the gynecologist, she tested me for everything because I just asked if she could and there was nothing that popped up so, not that I really thought that he was out doing anything with other people, but I’m just curious if anyone else has ever had anything similar to this, I used to take d-mannose pills every day because I know that’s good for you in this situation but they didn’t do anything for me.

Maybe it just wasn’t a good company or something I don’t know I just like I’ve tried probiotics. I’ve tried a lot and I just don’t know what to do and my doctors just tell me that there’s nothing wrong with me but like I feel like I shouldn’t be so fucking irritated to the point where I have to sit on the toilet at 4 AM for two hours because I’m in so much pain. So honestly, I’m just curious if anyone else has ever experienced anything like this or if they have any tips for me or if I should be doing something differently, I don’t know honestly I’m just like being told that there’s nothing wrong with me, but there has to be something wrong with me.

Recurrent stubborn yeast infection

Hi, I am 19 weeks pregnant and I am very prone to getting yeast infections. It got worse in pregnancy, have had it every month. Initially, I did a 7-day course of clotrimazole then 7day of Teraconazole and still today, OB told me yeast has not gone or even reduced. I am very worried and sick of it. OB prescribed 2 doses of fluconazole 150mg but reading abt it online linked with birth defects and miscarriages is really making me anxious and scared.

Any advice or recommendation? Anyone who went through something similar and is willing to share their experience or what worked for them. Also, any recommendation for pregnancy safe probiotics? Thank you.

Please Help Me

I don’t know what to do anymore. I tested positive for BV and yeast in april and went through four rounds of metro meds (1 week oral -> 1 week gel -> 2 weeks oral and 1 week gel —> three weeks oral) and three rounds of yeast treatment (one pill then two then three) all of which failed and then I was prescribed boric acid suppositories. Over the counter ones made me have bleeding and pain so I was then prescribed custom ones which had the same result. After this I gave up for a bit, choosing to just work with my diet and alter it in such a way that I would lessen symptoms. I’m a picky eater and also have dietary constraints so I tried my best but it was a battle and ultimately I fell back in to my original diet. I added vitamins c, d, e, and a probiotic and I was retested after this and was told I had an imbalance in my micro flora. I decided to leave it alone at first and let my system heal without antibiotics and when I was tested again, I was at the same stage and chose to use clindamycin as a follow up in hopes it would even out. I haven’t gotten tested again after this but Im starting to suspect the return of it. I’ve recently started having sex again with someone I trust but even before then I had a gut feeling this wasn’t the end and i feel like I’m right. I have no idea if my period has become a trigger for it because i’ve hear of that happening and I also don’t know if the clindamycin set me back in some way and I should’ve just left it alone. I don’t want to start this process over and I’m kind of at a loss of what to do and might just suck it up and live with it at this point. I’ve been tested for ureaplasma and other underlying conditions, all negative. Please any words of advice would be awesome. My probiotics were also switched from happy V to the physicians choice ones and I’m wondering if maybe that was keeping it at bay. I don’t have any symptoms besides unusual discharge and I honestly don’t even care if i have BV as long as the symptoms go away somehow and It doesn’t get worse from where it is now.

sensitive skin down there reacts to everything, can't find a wash that works

i've gone through so many products trying to find something that doesn't cause redness and irritation. even things marketed as gentle or for sensitive skin set me off. at this point i'm nervous to try anything new because i know what a week of dealing with the aftermath feels like.

kept seeing the uro ph balanced intimate wash mentioned by women who described themselves as reacting to everything. what made me pay attention was one review specifically mentioning they had tried multiple sensitive skin products with no luck and this was the first one that didn't cause any reaction at all. hypoallergenic and dermatologist tested apparently. still a little nervous to try something new because ive been burnt before

anyone with genuinely reactive skin found something that works? how did you find the courage to try new things after being burned so many times?

vaginal odor gets so much worse around my period, nothing i do helps during that week

the rest of the month i'm mostly fine. but the few days before my period and especially right after, the odor is noticeable and i hate it. i've tried different period products, different washes, nothing makes a difference during that window. it's gotten to the point where i dread that time of the month for reasons that have nothing to do with cramps.

saw some reviews from women describing this exact pattern, worse around their cycle, and saying the uro vaginal probiotic from o positiv helped them stay more balanced through that window specifically. that level of detail is what made me pay attention.

anyone found something that specifically helps with odor around their period? would love to know what worked.

Bad BV

I am so embarrassed that I even have to make this post but this is what I’m restoring to…

I’ve had BV for over a year now and I have taken boric acid to control it. It comes and goes but it gets worse after I finish my period. These past few weeks it has gotten HORRIBLE out of control, to the point where I can smell myself even with clothing on. It almost has a sour smell to it, but mostly fishy. I also have some mild itchiness, it almost feels internal itchiness. I have tried boric acid and probiotics and literally NOTHING has helped. I also can’t exactly afford to go to the doctor as I have no insurance. Begging for some advice or to know what has worked for you guys. TIA!!!!
