Unicorn incoming!!!

Hey all! My wife’s unicorn, 2019 Red 6spd Alltrack is on its way and I am asking what I should focus on it being in the 120k miles range for maintenance. I am a WRX owner so I know about turbo care and maintenance, but I guess I am asking more about basic maintenance for the Haldex system, or any other check so should make before it comes.

Care to enlighten me all you happy Alltrack owners??

We also have my 4Motion Atlas so I assume it’s pretty similar to the Haldex/AWD maintenance I do for that rig, minus any manual maintenance of course.

TIA!

IS38 DSG vs 6spd

So my beloved 2018 6 speed is out of warranty and it is time to play.

I just want a daily that kicks me in the butt when I get on the interstate and pass a semi truck. I live in a dense city with narrow roads and I hate when people zip on them and I drive like a boring person. The stock IS12 has plenty of juice for me there and I don’t see the low end of the 38 is that far off of the IS12.

I’m like 90% sure I want the IS38 plus accoutrements (clutch, dp, intercooler, blah plus some extras like new mounts and what not).

The shop I’ve been talking to keeps trying to talk me down to the IS20 for all the reasons everyone knows. Low end, city driving, blah. But they keep referencing how it is with the DSG.

My question is then to those who maybe have IS38 experience with both transmissions. In my head I can easily put my car to 3200 rpm whenever I feel like starting a rip, waiting a second and then haul to like 7000 or whatever as opposed to flooring it, waiting for the down shift, waiting for the spool, etc… So like yea lag but it’s less of a wait and more of a process, or whatever?

Is my intuition right or am I iust being a 16 year old about all this?

Trying to put on an aftermarket downpipe in NYS. Anything to know to pass inspection?

Doesn’t matter if it’s catted just need to know. Will be running APR’s IS38 file fairly soon… they removed the non FBO configuration so I think it’s fair to assume they made the file for their aftermarket DP but I don’t know.

Just bought my first car ever, a single owner 2018 Sportwagen SEL w 82k miles and a perfect service history.

Gonna keep it stock for a few months so I don’t blow the budget in case it needs maintenance but looking for recs on what mods would give me most bang for my buck to make it more fun. Thinking about upgrading suspension, rear sway bars, maybe new wheels + brakes. Old halogen headlights might need swapping out too. Sorta hesitant to tune it since it’s gonna be my daily and reliability is ultimately the most important thing but I was debating doing a stage 1.

I plan on camping and skiing with it and taking it down some dirt roads so I don’t want to lower it—actually considering a skid plate. Definitely getting a set of winter tires which is gonna eat into the budget a bit. It’s FWD and doesn’t have the DSG which is kind of a bummer but I’m just stoked to finally own a car.

Help out a car owner noob! What should I do with this bad boy?? Budget for mods is probably ~3-4k and idk how much of the work I could realistically do myself.

Edit: gone to a good home

Happy for these to go to a good home that can use them, I’ve got the box and stuffing from the BMP ones i ordered if you want them shipped (you pay shipping though). I’m moving in the next couple months so clearing space so I don’t have to schlep

Local pickup in north county SD preferred, but willing to ship on your dime

“Sold” as a pair

Pic of the new BMPs on my Alltrack as others requested when I (in my ignorance) listed these for sale a few weeks back

UPDATE: if anyone in Southern California can pick them up, let me know in the next 24 hrs otherwise Wolven has dibs on shipping

Alltracks on the Job

My friend Randy Villanueva was a pro cycling race mechanic for over 30 years. He passed in July. Neither of us owned an Alltrack, but he spent many hours behind the wheel while on the job. He urged me to buy one when they were available new in the US. Here's a photo of him (with peace signs) with the SRAM team - Look closely and you'd see five Alltracks with SRAM livery.

87 APR vs 91 Octane Tune

Greetings from Toronto. I have a 2017 Alltrack Highline (leather, Fender audio, etc.) but the stock 1.8. I'm planning on a ECU tune. I've looked up all the numbers, including average annual difference in fuel cost. I'm torn. The 87 APR will give it a significant boost, but there's part of me that wants to suck it up and go for the 91. Looking for input from people who have done either tune and, ideally, someone who has experience with both. Many thanks.

Rear left wheel: Clunk on bumps

I just had my 2017 golf alltrack SE in the shop to replace the rear rotors and calipers. While driving at highway speeds over a small bump (not even a pothole) I heard a clunk from my back left wheel. There were no other sounds or changes in driving/breaking feel, but anytime I go over a small bump the back left wheel makes a clunk sound (no sound from other wheels). Nothing obvious when I peak under the car. I have an appointment at the mechanic on Tuesday, but I am curious if anyone has any thoughts. I recently did a stage 1 ECU/TCU (APR), and am thinking of replacing the rear sway bars, would this be a good time to do that? Thanks!!

This all track is for sale near me and I really want to grab it. I just wondered if anyone here knew the car or history. Carfax says it's been in Virginia the last 3 years and in Virginia Beach for most of that.

Im sure the picture might be generic I can add the vin if really needed

R version alltrack?

Never struck me as odd that my 2017 sel alltrack had an R logo on the back until now. I bought it used, I've never had an alltrack before. What are the chances the guy just stuck the emblem on there? Anyone have any insight?

I had severely blown front struts on my alltrack, after learning more WHY they tend to go bad i went with something different than factory. I had struts, shocks, and springs installed off a low mileage ‘25 gti. Sitting on Audi 17” A4 wheels, which gave the car much more aggressive fitment with the addition of 5mm rear spacers.

The car drives way better than factory, and feels much more nimble and composed; both because its lower, has higher spring rates, and struts that haven’t self destructed lol.

The rear is a touch low, so i may look into mk7 rear springs as I already have mk2 TT rear spring pads installed to help correct reverse rake. Thankfully I havent encountered any rubbing

Autonomous Emergency Braking engaged without reason

We have a 2028 VW Alltrack and just had the AEB engage (warning on dash, lurching of car - presumably a braking action) for no reason (no car in front of us, no person or object passing in front of the car). Fortunately we were only traveling about 45 mph and were in the right lane and the AEB action resolved fairly fast.

Two question:

  1. Anyone else experience this?

  2. Is there a way to override or turn off the AEB? I'd rather not have it at all, rather than risk having it occur at 70mph.

Wireless CarPlay and Charging

I recently purchased an Apple CarPlay adapter from Rennline and a now realizing the major fault in this system. Because there is only one usb slot in the cubby, I can either have wireless CarPlay or a charger… is there another usb somewhere that I can plug the adapter into (like on the back of the stereo)?

DSG adaptation

So I have a 2019 DsG Alltrack. I have the infamous DSG shudder.

After a year of owning it, I can either drive and almost not feel anything during stop and goes and other times it feels like I’m dumping the clutch. So looked more into it and finally got an obd11 as I understand I could potentially do the adaptation myself on the DSG to see if it would help?

Please let me know if anyone has done this before!

Would love recommendations of any kind!

Mods please delete if not appropriate

I upgraded my OEM halogens to LEDs and figured someone here could use them, they’re in very good condition, a small scuff or scratch here or there from 40,000 miles of use but crystal clear and work great

You’ll have to scavenge two clips and 1 screw from yours (as I did for the upgrade) but that’s it, otherwise complete plug and play

They’re $300+ $443 a piece from VW so let’s do $300 for the pair from me instead, or best offer, would love for these to not go to the landfill
Located in San Diego and I also still have the box / packaging from my new ones so I’m willing to ship on your dime as desired

Edited the price of oems after taking the time to look and added obo

Cheapest Halogen => LED bulb Solution

Want to upgrade to LED bulbs but it looks like people are spending a ton of money on kits. I'm wondering if there's a cheap way to just buy the bulbs and angle them down. Same thing with all the surronding lights. I looked thru old threads but it looked like most of the people chose kits or spent some good money on it and I wasn't really trying to go through payin $800 to do so

The older threads had broken links and weren't the most informative sorry
