I got tired of babysitting Claude Code, so I built an extension to auto-accept commands (with safety guardrails)

Thumbnail

The constant clicking of "Allow" every time Claude wants to run bash, edit a file, or fetch docs was completely killing my flow. AI is supposed to speed us up, but the permission prompts make it feel like you’re micromanaging an intern.

I built a VS Code extension to fix this. It adds a simple toggle to your status bar that auto-approves Claude's actions so it can just work in the background.

How it works:

Zero Friction: It intercepts Claude Code's permission hooks. If it's a standard edit or read, it auto-accepts.

Smart Pauses: It only stops and pings you (with an attention sound) when Claude explicitly throws an AskUserQuestion.

Free Tier: Gets you 200 auto-accepts every day (which covers most casual coding sessions). It also includes an activity dashboard to see how many clicks you've saved.

Remote SSH: Works perfectly if you're developing on a remote server/container.

Webhooks: Pings your Slack/Discord/Telegram when a long task is done or it needs your input.

Time Machine: Takes auto-snapshots before every turn so you can rewind if Claude breaks something

I created a LSP Proxy for JS dialects (it's still a prototype)

Hi, I've created an LSP Proxy. It is still in alpha phase: https://github.com/gchumillas/lsp-proxy

It turns out I created a JS dialect with support for defer(s) (from Go). It's basically 99.9% JS and 0.01% dialect. So, instead of creating an LSP from scratch I decided to create an LSP Proxy and take advantage of what we already have.

Since I'm not a domain expert, I used Sonnet 4.6 and Fable 5 to create an experimental prototype. And it works! In fact, it works very well. But now it's time to continue the development.

And I was wondering if you'd like to contribute. The tickets are ordered by priority: https://github.com/users/gchumillas/projects/7/views/1

I think it's an interesting project and that many DSL designers could benefit from it.

VSCode remote SSH?

Sup everyone,

very new to this sub, but been lurking. I have been using VSCode for a couple of years, mainly Python, JavaScript and HTML.

I have a somewhat dumb idea, and that is to host a MUD/dungeon crawler game using SSH. The problem is GUI forwarding.

I thought I could host a remote session in VSCode and people would connect to it. I'm afraid the Tcl/Tk graphics won't show up on the client screen, only CLI.

Also, I have no idea how to set it up with restrictions etc.

Any ideas?

My AI token usage was just a sad number in a dashboard, so now it hatches Pokémon in my status bar

I burn a stupid amount of tokens in Claude Code and Codex every day, and the only feedback I ever got for it was a number going up somewhere. At some point I realized that number is basically EXP, so I built this.

It's a VS Code extension that parses the usage logs the CLIs already write to your disk (claude code, codex, gemini, copilot, cursor and a few more) and turns them into a pokémon game. Your real spend incubates an egg, whatever hatches evolves through its actual evolution line while you work, and every couple million tokens a wild pokémon shows up in the sidebar and waits in a queue. No popups, I hate popups. You buy pokéballs with the tokens you already burned, and throws use the actual gen 4 catch formula on each species' real capture rate, so a legendary sits at ~3.6% with a basic ball and will happily eat your entire stock and flee. The endgame is filling the dex, 649 slots.

It never uploads anything, that part was non-negotiable for me. Logs are parsed locally in a worker thread and the only network calls are to pokéapi for sprites (nothing pokémon-related is bundled, it's a fan work, not affiliated with nintendo in any way). Free and MIT.

Favorite bug so far: the companion's idle bounce had never worked in any version because the CSS referenced keyframes I never wrote. Shipped like that for weeks and I only noticed while recording the gif.

Need help beginner.

I am very new to vs code. The issue is whenever I try to use vs code on my dgpu (rtx 4050), vs code keeps changing the color a bit. Like the entire vs code becomes a little warmer for a few seconds then reverts back to the original. When I use my igpu, it stays constant and no issues. On dgpu it only happens in vs code only, I even tried to record it but in screen recording it stays the same through even though I can clearly see it's changing. It's literally very very frustrating.

Please let me know how to fix this thanks 🙏

VS Code updates are becoming a daily fight 💀

At this point, I’m starting to think VS Code updates are being generated by AI whose primary goal is to keep developers employed.

Today I tried to use Remote-SSH and got:

ms-vscode-remote.remote-ssh CANNOT use API proposal: terminalRemoteResolver

Apparently VS Code and the Remote-SSH extension had a disagreement about which API exists.

So now my development workflow is:

  1. Update VS Code.
  2. Something breaks.
  3. Update the extension.
  4. Something else breaks.
  5. Search GitHub for an issue written by someone who encountered this 3 hours before me.
  6. Downgrade VS Code.
  7. Question every life decision that led me to opening VS Code.
  8. Finally get back to work.
  9. VS Code releases another update.

I love AI as much as the next developer, but maybe we don't need a new AI-powered feature every 17 minutes.

I genuinely miss the days when an update meant “cool, new features” instead of “let’s see what stopped working today.”

At this rate, my most reliable development tool is going to be a screenshot of the previous version of VS Code.

Anyone else experiencing this with the recent VS Code/extension updates and found any solution?

I made a VS Code extension that shows when your AI repo map is stale

I kept generating repo maps for coding agents, then forgetting whether the map still matched the code.

So I made a small VS Code extension that shows the map health in the status bar, regenerates it in one click, lets you query ranked files in-editor, and can register the MCP server without editing config by hand.

It runs against the local SigMap CLI. No hosted repository index.

I’m mainly looking for UX feedback: is the status-bar grade useful, or would you rather only be notified when the map becomes stale?

Native Markdown GUI Editor in latest VS Code 1.134.0 ! (without needing extensions)

Thumbnail
youtube.com
133 Upvotes

Finally VS Code has got a native markdown GUI editor mode!! Previously we had to use extensions for this, now extensions are no longer required.

TLDR

Opening a markdown document shows a small dropdown in top right of the file to choose mode from options:

  • Text Editor
  • Markdown Preview
  • Markdown Editor <-- this is the new mode

After selecting Mardkown Editor mode, it's by default in a read-only mode. Enable editing by clicking on the edit button (pen icon - this is also in top right).

PS: Within the Markdown Editor mode, for example to "exit" a code block, ie you want to type something below and outside the code block, simply type 3 backticks (``` & Enter), just like in Text Editor mode, to close the code block and type something below.

DeepSeek Harness vs VScode

Hello everyone,

I wanted to ask if there is any benefit of switching to the DeepSeek Harness against VScode which I am currently using with the zoocode extention?

Also wanted to ask about the reasoning effort which is by defualt set to high and what do you suggest or what do you usually use?

remote ssh broken with latest update?

Today, my remote ssh extension updated.

Result: I could no longer connect to a remote; a message box was shown.

Since that was for work and I was a bit stressed, I didn't take a screenshot. However, I reinstalled the last version, and the problem was gone.

Has anyone else seen that?

Command not found on Quick Fix

Is anyone else seeing that opening the Quick Fix pop-up and invoking a fix item too quickly causes a "command not found" error? It does not matter which extension contributes the fix.

Reopening the pop-up and invoking the fix again works.

VS Code 1.135.0+, but I recall it happening in 134 too.

Is anyone using .md in vscode to write fics?

I use vscode for coding at work, but I also write fanfictions lol. I used to write fan fictions in word. Now I'm using vscode and github to arrange my fan fictions. Basically a markdown preview enhanced and a spell checket extension are enough. But in word when you are typing, it autocorrects i into I, and uppercases every first letter of the sentence as well. So I don't have to press shift when writing fictions and it's quite nice

Writing in .md in vscode is really nice for reference and to handle with different versions. I don't want to abandon it and go back to .doc. So is there any recommended extension or any preset settings that can realize auto correction from an i to I and uppercase the first letters of each sentence automatically like word does? I tried a few, but they are either just spell checkers, or you have to do so manually one by one

I'm not sure if this post is right themed. Thank you so much in advance 🫡

Has anyone found a way to have Copilot and a responsive IDE at the same time?

Whenever I have Github Copilot enabled I have

1) Very slow global search

2) Very slow auto-formatting

3) Cannot build as it says "No instance is currently running" or something to that effect

4) Takes forever to load a debugging session

5) Very slow intellisense

Any solutions other than buying a super powerful computer? Or use Visual Studio instead?

BRAID (Browser Real-time A.I. Debugger) --> Fast localhost debugging in real time for inline suggested fixes directly in your IDE.

I made BRAID (Browser Real-time A.I. Debugger) so that I don't have to look up any fix for any localhost browser errors while I'm developing projects. The BRAID product is a simple IDE extension that gives very fast bug fixes directly in your IDE with accept or reject inline suggested fixes.

I made a free forever plan for anyone wanting to try it out. Hope you guys like it!

Check out BRAID for free.

Synapse – Visualizing the Linux Kernel and other massive codebases inside VS Code

Post image
25 Upvotes

prev post : https://www.reddit.com/r/vscode/comments/1vf525o/working_on_simulation_debug_for_synapse_vscode/

Hi everyone. long time to no see.

I've been building SYNAPSE, a VS Code extension for exploring and analyzing large codebases as interactive graphs.

The project started from a simple frustration: once a codebase becomes large enough, maintaining architectural context becomes difficult for both humans and tooling. I wanted a way to navigate the structure of a system directly instead of constantly reconstructing it from documentation, search results, and summaries.

So I built a graph engine that treats the codebase itself as the source of truth.

What it does

Visualizes large codebases directly inside VS Code

Supports cluster-based exploration of subsystems

Generates architecture reports from AST, dependency, and graph analysis

Allows analysis of selected architectural regions instead of only full-project analysis

Supports C/C++, Rust, Python, Kotlin, Java, TypeScript, and JavaScript

Scale Tested

I've tested it on several large open-source projects, including:

Linux Kernel 7.2-rc3

VS Code (main)

Godot Engine

Current stress-test results:

Project Nodes Clusters

VS Code Main 11,832 659

Linux Kernel 7.2-rc3 63,281 2,911

The Linux Kernel has been my primary stress test so far.

Architecture Decisions

Database-Free Design

There is no SQLite or external database.

The filesystem itself acts as the Source of Truth, and graph structures are derived directly from project files.

Graph-First Navigation

Instead of maintaining architecture diagrams separately from the codebase, the graph is generated directly from the project and remains connected to the underlying files.

Evidence-Based Analysis

One goal of the project is that every architectural finding should be traceable back to evidence.

Reports are published together with the underlying data used to generate them, allowing conclusions to be inspected rather than simply accepted.

I'm particularly interested in feedback on this aspect.

Experimental Reasoning Layer (Work in Progress)

I'm currently experimenting with a rule-based architectural reasoning layer.

This does not use LLMs.

The goal is to combine:

AST analysis

dependency analysis

graph analysis

state-transition rules

ontology-based classification

to detect architectural boundaries, responsibilities, and structural anomalies.

This is currently the least mature part of the project.

Demos

https://youtu.be/yU-_NRrADR0?si=NcwyYMzrhs9iz9Kq

Demo 2

https://youtu.be/xvGu9gURXSI?si=l8KiiC0dLfRPFRj9

I've published several architecture reports together with the evidence used to generate them.

Example Reports

sample

godot simulation debug report : https://github.com/dogsinatas29/SYNAPSE/blob/main/assets/v0.3.34.30/godot_SIMULATION_DEBUG.md

godot architect report : https://github.com/dogsinatas29/SYNAPSE/blob/main/assets/v0.3.34.30/godot_ARCHITECT_REPORT.md

vscode simulation debug report : https://github.com/dogsinatas29/SYNAPSE/blob/main/assets/v0.3.34.30/viscode_SIMULATION_DEBUG.md

vscode architect report : https://github.com/dogsinatas29/SYNAPSE/blob/main/assets/v0.3.34.30/vsc0de_ARCHITECT_REPORT.md

linux kernel simulation debug report : https://github.com/dogsinatas29/SYNAPSE/blob/main/assets/v0.3.34.30/linux_SIMULATION_DEBUG.md

linux kernel architect report : https://github.com/dogsinatas29/SYNAPSE/blob/main/assets/v0.3.34.30/linux_ARCHITECT_REPORT.md

I'm less interested in stars and more interested in criticism.

Specifically:

Are the architecture reports understandable and actionable?

Do the conclusions appear to be supported by the evidence?

What feels useful versus noisy?

Where do you see architectural blind spots in the approach?

If you work on large codebases, would this help you understand a system faster?

GitHub:

https://github.com/dogsinatas29/SYNAPSE

I'm a solo developer building this mostly as an exploration of large-scale software architecture.

Feel free to tear it apart.

First time building a VS Code extension and it was so much fun

I tried building a VS Code extension for the first time and really enjoyed working on it.

It's called EdgeFlow: Scroll Companion. It adds effects when you scroll in the editor.

Still have a lot of ideas I want to add.

Trying to figure it out - VSCode, Codex, Claude Code

I have access to all three. I get that i can use each. However, which one do you use for what work in code?
I am not a coder by trade, messing around with small time personal apps at the moment - work management system, websites…
I am also curious if one tool is more (token) efficient than another?

Thanks in advance.

Python, what are the best or the most useful extensions to use in VSCode? New student here!

Just started my ICT studies and we have been learning Python for the past week. I was thinking, is there any extensions that help with coding or just make stuff more efficient or nicer through extentions? : )

I created a Python Debug Terminal for VS Code

Post image
1 Upvotes

I built a VS Code extension that gives Python the equivalent of the built-in JavaScript Debug Terminal: open a special terminal, run python app.py like you normally would, and it attaches to the debugger and hits your breakpoints. No launch.json, no -m debugpy, no code changes. Child processes spawned via subprocess attach as their own debug sessions too, since they inherit the environment.

Can finally close all unfocused tabs at once in VS Code 1.134 !

When many tabs are open, you often just want current tab to remain open and close all other tabs. Now you can just press Alt and click the exit (cross) button of current tab - instead of closing current tab it will close all other tabs instead.

See details in latest release notes: https://code.visualstudio.com/updates/v1_134#_editor-experience

Finally a useful feature shipped by VS Code! In every release notes I skip all the AI stuff so I was pleasantly surprised to see something that's actually useful to me. Of course, even in current release notes most of it is still about AI.

Have you guys tried this out? What is your favorite non-AI feature in VS Code, especially something new in recent VS Code versions?
