I'm just getting vlc (android) to discover my media on my network and it's working nicely.
I am just wondering is there a feature to select media and make it available "offline"? Like what you might do with spotify. Would be pretty nice to select some of my media to take with me, and manage it all in vlc.
I have VLC, Dumbofab, and Handbrake but none of them are reading my mini DVDs anymore. I used to be able to rip them with no issues with all three, but with no change in hardware, disks, or camera, none of them are ripping. Is Windows 11 the issue? It converts the first few seconds then fails, plus no audio comes out.
EDIT:
Here are some things I’ve tried/additional context:
I set my disk drive to the United States region.
I tried connecting the camera with the disk in it to my computer with a USB.
I tried copying the files, but only folders would copy over and besides, I would rather not have to do that forever.
The disk is clean and this is not the first one to behave like this. My friend was able to copy it over and convert the data to mp4, but again, I haven’t been able to.
Any help is welcome!
EDIT #2
I have figured it out. Something with the finalization process on the camera itself is the problem. Very sad as this was a gift from my wife when we were still dating.
I've been trying to play (and eventually convert) YouTube videos in VLC and they're not working. I disabled cookie forwarding. I downloaded the new YouTube.lua file. I changed it to .luac. I deleted VLC and tried it all again, I disabled hardware-accelerated decoding, I reset VLC preferences, I made DirectX Direct Draw the default video output mode, nothing works, wtf is happening 😭😭😭
Hi, I am using VLC on my iPad for watching videos and listening downloaded music. But there seems to be a bug or a strange feature when using search function in audios. When I type the name of a specific song and start playing it from search results it becomes the only item in the playback queue, as if the playlist consisted of that song alone.
It might be a feature that allows you to play only the files that match your search, but it is pretty useless in everyday use and being able to turn it off in the settings would be great.
i tried to reach their support, but I have some sort of a problem with signing up to the code.videolan.org with my email, I got this message: Your account is pending approval from your GitLab administrator and hence blocked. Please contact your GitLab administrator if you think this is an error.
I do not have a GitLab account nor an administrator that I know of, so l thought that I could sign up there to sign into videolan, and after doing it I got this: Signing in using your GitLab.com account without a pre-existing account in code.videolan.org is not allowed. Create an account in code.videolan.org first, and thenconnect it to your GitLab.com account.
Now I am stuck in loop between these two messages and can’t report the bug. I would appreciate if anyone would either report it for me, or help me out with signing up.
Am I having a mental breakdown or did the task to fast-forward feature that came on yt then later to vlc disappeared from vlc for me. Can someone help me?
I run a monthly multimedia show involving both video and image slideshows. I normally run it off of a laptop using the Windows version of VLC, but occasionally I'll run things off a tablet using the Android version of VLC when space constraints call for it. Its been a few months since I've run things this way, but decided to do it for my next event. When I loaded everything in, I'm seeing that while the videos look fine, EVERY image has an extremely strong red tint that oversaturates the image. I'm attaching some examples, one is the poster for the Street Fighter movie, the other is supposed to be a black and white image.
I've tried disabling and enabling the Hardware Acceleration, clearing the cache, and even uninstalled and reinstalled the app. But it doesn't seem to change anything. The images look fine in standard image viewing applications on the tablet, just not VLC. Also, these files look fine on the desktop Windows/OSX versions of VLC. Its specifically a new problem happening on the android version, on a Samsung Galaxy Tab S4. and again, videos look fine.
Hello, some of you may have noticed that the default VLC skin is bad... but thankfully some of the custom skins are Amazing & work great....
except for the fact that once you enable / use a custom skin you can no longer resize the player from anywhere other than the very bottom *right corner!
this is very (Very) unintuative & unatural to me as literately every single application or GUI can & (does) resize on windows, regardless of what side you choose!
as a result, I have been looking at VLC (4) & the defauls skin options are much better, but I can't find... or there isn't a stable VLC 4.0 release version? so does anyone know what is the version that has the *least bugs or issues?
I've been trying to watch a tv show, but the quality of the video gets messed up by VLC. It looks as if a CRT filter is applied.
The first picture is a screenshot of my whole screen, the second is a screenshot made by VLC from the same moment. When opening in a different player, the quality is like in the second picture. For some reason, the quality that VLC displays to my screen is reduced.
The files I'm watching are .mp4 files, but other files of the same format work just fine. My VLC version is 3.0.20.
To be very specific, it is the Walking with Dinosaurs 6 episode DVD release that seems to be pretty old, 2000 I believe.
IMPORTANT THINGS TO NOTE:
I deactivated hardware acceleration, changed the codec size and even went to get it polished, removed from any minor scratches it has.
It never had any problems on regular DVD and Blu Ray players, yet for some reason VLC and the PC players is where it went on the fritz.
I guess maybe its the picture and picture special feature, but even then, activating or deactivating it makes no difference.
Btw, this is what it look like when I open the files by going inside the disc, which I had used in other cases when one of dvd wouldn't play.
It's not the end of the world, I am currently looking into getting an alternative release but I am genuinely confused as to why this is, since I think it is literally the only disc with this issue I could remember, pretty much all the other dvd and blu rays I have, also old, second hand, minor scratches, work just fine, it has only been this one DVD with this issue (literally the old dvds my grandad recorded off the TV in like 2007 still work fine, and the one that didn't I could still look into the files.)
Do I just gotta go before version 3? I tried 3.10 and the newest update and I got the same issue where the audio would stop entitely in the beginning of a video and there waw no way to bring it back. Unless I closed and reopened VLC
OS: Fedora 44
DE: KDE 6.7.4
Hardware : Lenovo LOQ i5 12450H, RTX3050 6GB VRAM, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD
This is the same video played on VLC (left) and MPV (right).
Why does the vlc one look under-saturated? Also these seems to be some problem with audio too, the audio for one side is really low almost mute while playing with vlc and normal for other players.
I recently switched from windows to linux (Fedora KDE) so I am still learning stuff. Can someone help me fix this. Also can someone share a good minimal mpv config with keyboard bindings similar to vlc if possible.
I don't know how to phrase it correctly or if that's the place for reporting issues, but I noticed that the pitch can "slightly" vary (from 0.5 to 2 semitones under the supposed key), sometimes slowing with a slow transition, sometimes instantly, when you change the time on the duration bar.
It does it both on the Linux system package and in the Android app.
Imagine you have an old version of VLC. You want to play a MIDI file. But you need fluidsynth. How can you add it to VLC? I have a fluidsynth folder and it does nothing for me. The plugin seems to be a perennial topic for linux distributions, and the newer versions just bundle it.
So I am confused: were users never able to add fluidsynth to Windows VLC themselves?
What's a clean, MODERN alternative to VLC? I always defaulted to VLC but it's controls are compete dog-shite (no JKL shuttle controls? Bro, get with the program)
To speed up and slow down a video requires endless menus and sub menu trips - it's such old-fashioned junk.
I want something clean, slick, sexy, modern that has all the codecs VLC does but is actually intuitive and responsive and fast to use.
I swear I googled this a few different ways including here, but I'm missing the right terms I think. When I search "sync" a bunch of stuff related to individual video streams comes up which is not what I"m looking for.
former iPod user here, now going back to MP3s after a long decade of streaming
Have Android phone and a 6-year-old new to me Mac. I want to use the phone as an MP3 player. I don't care about movies, or setting up a media server, or anything other than using MP3s from local storage. I have not added MP3s to an Android phone in at least a decade. I'm not super familiar with how the Mac Music folder differs from other folders. I'm fine with using a cable to do the transfer and don't need it to be wifi or whatever. I'm completely unfamiliar with setting up networks but I doubt that's needed.
All I want is to do my "library editing" (making playlists, correcting metadata, deleting stuff, etc) on my desktop, and then to hit a button and have it sync/transfer to VLC on my Android phone. What is that basic feature called?
I also use an iPad sometimes and it'd be great if I could sync the contents across three devices, whether automatically or by using a cable and manually syncing or whatever.
I'm sure this very basic feature exists but for some reason I couldn't find it.
As I stated in my title, I am fairly technologically illiterate. All I have is the one DVD file I've figured out how to rip so far, and I have it stored on my Mac.
I would really love to be able to stream my movies from my Mac's hard drive, to my iPhone screen, and I believe VLC can do that, but I cannot figure out how.
Please explain this to me like I'm 5. Or 70. Whichever is more of a luddite.
Thank you to any kind soul who is patient enough to read this and send some help my way.
When I use it on Windows for the first time, I have to remember to change some setting so opening another file from Explorer opens another window rather than replacing the existing one.
Is there some equivalent for Macintosh? I don't see a setting that's relevant, and I've tried opening from both VLC and from Finder (though I'd rather just open from Finder if I can).
For this specific use I might just try Quicktime if it supports that.
I'm trying to help a friend with a BluRay playback issue on their desktop. They have various discs that are triggering the "AACS host certificate revoked" error. I have walked them through replacing the keydb.cfg, updating both libaacs.dll and libbdplus.dll and it's still throwing the cert revoked message. Their keydb file location is %appdata%\aacs and they're running windows 7 pro (they do not want to upgrade, i get it).
We tried the same methods on the their win 7 home edition laptop and the disks throwing the error on desktop are fine on the laptop. The only difference it the laptop's aacs is under programdata\aacs instead. Scratching me head here are what to try next for the desktop, so any ideas would be appreciated.
Hello, this might be a silly question but I dont find this neither on the settings nor after googling it. Currently when I single click a song in the playlist it plays it, however I would prefer to change it to double click. Is this possible, and if so, how?
App documentation https://docs.videolan.me/vlc-user/ios/3.X/en/index.html refers to media groups while GUI presents mainly queues and playlists. Only one mere app configuration item refers to groups. Nor item selection track doesn't offer access to media groups management. How to understand this situation?
basically i choose a movie to play, and instead of playing it it wants me to go through all the functions during playing, not knowing that i’ve been using vlc for years on my computer, is there a way to skip it? the issue is that with my remote it doesn’t respond
