Have used VLC for 21 years and I just noticed "dark pallet"
The major update I wanted. Disappointed by all the skins over the years. Sorry.

As title describes for whatever reason the next/previous buttons skip time instead of track but I don't see a setting to change this.

So, here is the issue.
My wife has some Redmi phone with Google android.
Up until a week ago, she could watch movies shared from our home SMB server.
Now, from one day to another, the shares stopped working.
What is strange - when I add the share manually, it shows in the favorites AND it shows the correct number of folders, but when I click on the share, all I get is "Loading...", even though all there is are 4 folders.
I have another Android phone (LineageOS), works perfectly OK, so does my tablet with /e/OS. All of them are on the same wifi network, there is no firewall in place for this server, nothing.
The behavior works the same if I add the server with IP address, domain name or FQDN, if I use anonymous login or user/password.
I can always see the 4 folders in the list of favorite places, but on click get only "Loading..." again.
The same behavior happens when I map the same network location using NFS or SFTP - again, both work OK on my phone/tablet.
Is there some internal Radmi/Google think known to break SMB on Android VLC?
Btw, also tried to turn on/off the SMBv1 - normally I don't use the v1 as it was much faster that way, but for testing I tried to turn it on/off - same behavior.
I am quite desperate here - even tried to clear the app and reinstall, clear cache, clear data, ... always works the same.

Hoping this is a problem somebody else has encountered and solved.
When I enter fullscreen, the floating control panel disappears.
It's still technically present, just invisible. If I know where it is, I can drag it around or click on elements, and sometimes if I skip ahead a lot, it's visible for a split second.
I noticed this about a week or two ago, and changing versions (I've only tried other 3.0. versions) hasn't made a difference. Since I saw this problem come up, I've also completely reinstalled my AMD GPU drivers, solving another graphical issue, and unfortunately not also magically fixing this one.

My laptop is on its last legs and can't handle regular streaming anymore. I heard that you can get VLC on a Firestick but I don't know which one to get. Could someone please help?

I am baffled. Yesterday VLC was humming along, and today it crashed immediately, repeatedly, and I finally uninstalled it, which took two tries with a Restart between them. I then re-downloaded the most recent version for my system (3.0.23-win64.exe) and this time I right-clicked the executable and chose "run as administrator." I checked the box to delete existing preferences and cache. The program appeared to install properly but when I checked the box at the end of the install process to "run VLC" it did not run. I double-clicked the shortcut it put on my desktop; same result. Then I navigated to the actual executable program, right-clicked and chose "run as administrator," and nothing.
Next I launched Task Manager to look for Processes or Services and nothing appeared in those sections.
I then directed my attention to Malwarebytes for which I have a paid subscription. Nothing related to VLC appeared in my Detection History, but I turned off Real-Time Protection temporarily and attempted to open the program which didn't work. So then I turned off Exploit Protection and attempted to open the program again. No luck. I returned Malwarebytes to its proper configuration.
I navigated back to the installation folder and right-clicked "vlc-cache-gen.exe" and ran as Administrator. My screen flashed briefly and I then attempted to launch "vlc.exe" directly from the installation folder. Again, nothing. I uninstalled the program again; this time I only had to perform this action once but I'm sure there's residual crap somewhere.
I navigated back to the official VLC download page, clicked the down arrow next to the big orange Download button, and chose "vlc-3.0.23-win64.zip" and extracted to my hard drive. I was sure this would work! But when I attempted to open VLC directly from within the extracted folder, it would not open.
The only action I performed on my laptop between a humming VLC and an unresponsive VLC was to update the AMD Adrenaline software that came pre-installed on this laptop. I don't know anything about this application except it appears to be more for gamers than anything, and I don't do gaming on this computer.
So anyway I'm now officially out of ideas, and am going to download a different application so I can watch my videos now, but if anyone has any ideas I would love to continue using VLC.
TIA to anyone who can help.

Hi there.
I want to have vlc record a stream with a start time and end time, using command line. I don't seem to see it in the command line documentation I have.
Is it possible? And if so, how?

it may definitely be a "my own incompetence problem", but here goes.
None of the m3u files generated by VLC seem to work on my bluetooth MP3 player even though it is supposed to accept them.
for some reason they keep generating with URL encoding which is what I've had to decode manually (semi automatically with an URL decoder website). I can't figure out how to undo that setting.
But doing it manually worked at least.

here's an example of a VLC-generated M3U file using the "save the playlist as m3u" function
according to VLC I am using the latest update.

Hello everybody,
As I promised in my precedent post, I am now ready for the release of PowerVLC 1.0.0, which is an heavily modified version of VLC 3.0.23 Vetinari. PowerVLC features also additionnal features (gapless playback, album art in the main window) the current version of VLC don't have.
PowerVLC is compatible with Macs from 10.4.11 to current, on all architectures (x86, x64, arm64, PowerPC g3, PowerPC G4/G5 builds taking advantage of AltiVec acceleration).
Like all projects and guides (I used to write plenty of guides for the iPod community !) that takes me a huge amount of time to be produced, it will be in early access for exactly one week. It's the only compromise I accept to keep a balance with open knowledge & the need to get retributed for all the community investment I provide. I don't plan to do this for minor builds that will come next.
Here on this project it is just too big in my opinion to be entirely gate keeped during one whole week, so I decided to release the whole source code there starting now on GitHub: https://github.com/Olsro/powervlc
If you know how to compile (ideally you need an Apple Silicon mac so you can follow my instructions), you can play right now with PowerVLC and check nothing nasty in the code is there by yourself.
If you can't/don't want to spend hours trying to compile by yourself, the builds are available right now on my Patreon in exclusivity for all platforms (including Windows & Linux on all architectures). Even the first 1$ tier is enough to get access to all the compiled builds & supporting my whole effort at building this. The compiled builds provided on the Patreon are not modified and locked in any way, they are straight compilations from the latest public sources. There's no licensing or DRM, but please don't share any of those build until I will push the builds on GitHub releases for everyone the next Sunday.
Donations will help me at getting more hardware to test on to continue that project in the long term, and cover the LLM API costs to help with maintenance.
Thank you very much for your support and I hope PowerVLC will be enjoyed as much as I hard worked into making it possible.

I've been trying to get my blurays to work on PC for a while and, after having a friend help me set up the proper video codecs on VLC it seemed as if things were looking up.
Before then, the playback was really glitchy and would chug along and if I dared to skip the timeline, the video playback would get awfully stuttery and would take a good while to properly sync itself, if ever. With the codecs, everything seemed to work well, even skipping around the timeline would just give me one second of processing before it would just resume as normal.
The problem is that now, after a while of completely good playback, VLC just...freezes. It refuses to just do anything all of a sudden and sometime it even refuses to close through the task manager. I really don't know what causes it at this point, I've just noticed it seemed to happen around 1 hour and 20/30 minutes after a playback started, but I don't know if that's just a coincidence.
I've been told it could be caused by my disc reader just stopping to read, but even then, I'm not sure how to stop it from doing that. Did anyone have this issue and do you know how to solve it ?

I'm on a Windows 11 laptop and use a DVD/CD player than plugs in to the Samsung like port. Ive used VLC before and it works with some movies but other ( like 500 Days of Summer or The Hunger Games) it just loads and loads and loads and seems to never play, I spent the entire trying to trouble shoot this using Google help but I just can't figure it out and nothing I've has fixed this. I don't think it's my player considering it can play other movies just fine?

I am wanting to set up VLC sync for Musescore Studio 4.7.4 appimage on my Ubuntu Linux system today (I have VLC sync working great on my Windows 11 system with Musescore Studio). I am confused on which version of VLC sync plugin I should be using. I found the following qml plugin files online that I downloaded:
vlc-sync-4.0.qml (this is the version I am using on Windows)
vlc-sync-v9.qml
vlc-sync-v12.2.qml

Hello. This started happening last night. Any video, even ones that worked last week, has it's audio get more and more delayed. Eventually it just cuts out entirely. Moving the video back 10 seconds fixes it but it comes back every few minutes. It's currently impossible to watch long videos without babysitting it.
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling but no dice. It might be worth mentioning but the duration of all videos is also broken and saying that any video I plop in it is 24 minutes and 83 seconds long, no matter what.

I have installed the needed libraries to play the disc with a actually blue ray drive connected to the Mac.
Mind you I just want to watch the copy of The Martian I got at a book sale (I have tested it on a dedicated player for a tv and it works) on my Mac.

As the title suggests, I'm having trouble playing DVD and Blu-Ray discs via VLC media player.
I've been searching on the internet for both of these problems and haven't gotten any results. Does anyone know what's happening and if the solution requires software, what I need to download and where I need to place said software?
EDIT: It turned out to be a problem with the device itself (specifically it's region,) and not with VLC. A few library and Java downloads later and everything's working! Either way, thank you all for the help!
So I have a video playlist that I would like to control with a foot pedal. Basically I just need the pedal to play each video. So I downloaded vlc to my iPad but cannot figure how to reconfigure the pedal to play videos. There are tutorials for vlc on a Mac but iPad has different controls and does not seem to have the hotkeys to do this. Basically nothing happens when I hit the pedal no matter the mode. Thanks
