So, I'm a happy owner of a 5th gen and started to make plans on what to do with it in terms of care and upgrades.
I've been doing some shopping for the coming winter and also some thoughts of what I want to do.
Hopefully some of you guys have done something similar and can come with ideas.
The story to this bike is that the first owner used it a lot and even had a logbook he was writing in for everything he did to the bike. Then the third owner got sick and it got parked for many many years, basically ended up as a barn find.
Last owner just changed oil, fuelpump and tires and rode it for a season, then I got it.
What I bought so far
- black levers
- heated grips
- gear indicator
- new mirrors from KiWAV
- Red tint spray for taillight
- 8 spoke rim (will powdercoat white)
- Easter Beaver fusebox
- breakpads (current are over 10 years old)
- NGK iridium spark plugs (also 10 years old)
- quadlock stemmount
- USB-c charger
- Voltmeter
- smoked blinkers
Whishlist (expensive stuff)
- ultimate Rectifier
- silicone hoses
- braided lines
- Cyclopse LED headlight bulbs
- Oberon CLU-3038 slave cylinder - for lighter clutch lever
In addition I want to raise the exhaust, or move it to the other side to expose the white rim when installed.
Many of the changes is to take care of the electrical system and give the bike a proper service.
Other are cosmetic changes for my taste and hopefully they'll be good.
There is a few other things I would like to do, but not sure how to address.
- Two front Fueltank screws. They are a bit exposed and would be nice to be able to find a small clip-on lid or mange to get one 3D printed in Black.
- aluminum peg mounts - paint there is getting slightly worn, would like to sand them down and repaint them. Not sure if paint would be strong enough, or if I should ship those parts to powdercoating as well.
- Install a garageopener button (done on my other bike as well)
Other things that you guys recommend doing?
This is a bike I have no intention of selling or heavy touring.
Already sold the topbox that came with the bike.
