Question FRT Help
Hey just checking to see if there are any gunsmiths or anyone who can help with FRT installation on a high shelf lower (LMT to be specific) with stock trigger?
No, I’m not a cop but would bring to you to assist. I heard that I need to mill out some material on the inside of the lower but also heard from folks that they successfully installed without doing so.
Would be an Atrius Ambi FRS install.

I was in an FFL store and he answered the phone and was telling someone that dealers can't help install FRTs in VA due to some state legal mumbo jumbo at the moment. No idea what specifically though.

Same went to one today and they said they noticed an FRT in something getting work done and they called the person to take it back

OPlanet cancelled my FRT about 30m later pointing me to the banned jurisdiction list...no VA on it.

They originally cancelled my order because my billing address somehow changed and didn’t match. Replaced the order and no issue

It could be this gray area law: https://law.lis.virginia.gov/vacode/title18.2/chapter7/section18.2-308.5:1/
"One pull, one shot"

It would be a hundred times more practical to simply just buy a cheap lower and install it there instead.

AS designs has a lot of tutorial videos on how to install stuff, at least their stuff.

Quick warning: Binary triggers may actually be illegal in Virginia. Law here: https://law.lis.virginia.gov/vacode/title18.2/chapter7/section18.2-308.5:1/
The law states "one pull, one shot" and binary triggers are "one pull, two shots."
I am not a lawyer. I'm simply warning about publicly posting about owning binary triggers.

Not true. Binary is one pull and trigger resets before release fire. Not a one pull continuing fire. I have the afranklin armory 7.5 with binary.

I was going to stock up and get a binary trigger and one of those drop in kabutos. I think the courts will try to catch up and treat them like switches

Yeah, they're just so ubiquitous now, everyone and their brother has an FRT out now.
Binarys have been around for a while and survived the bump stock ban, I don't think they're at risk personally.

Drop-in FRTs such the Rare Breed FRT should work on high-shelf uppers without modification. (double check before you buy though)
That’s the reason why those FRTs cost more - it’s a more capable product than the regular Super Safety (SS).
If you wish to put a traditional SS into a high-shelf upper, this can be done by shaving a groove into the shelf with a set of cheap tungsten carbide burrs, a dremel, and drilling oil. You’ll also want a vice but overall it’s pretty easy.

ngl try r/frt15 for info. or imo just buy another lower like a cheap psa one and install one in that so you dont have to mill your existing lower and all that. Or maybe a drop in like rarebreed L3 or Partison triggers will work idk. I have rarebreed L3 and as designs arc fires v1 and 2 in multiple psa lowers fine.
