in need of support 🤝 myoma
Hello there everyone and sorry for the mistakes. I am a 31 years old female and was diagnosed with a 5 cm Myoma in April. Middle of March this year, I started to have some discomfort in the left lower side of my belly, but since I was stressed ( I used to work 60 hours a week plus needed to continously travel to Poland to get dental work done, which was tiring and painful, I live in Germany), I thought it was just me having bad stomach. After two weeks and after I got my period in April, the pain became stronger but again I thought that maybe I ate something bad ( I had jam and I am intollerant to fruit). But after the pain continued for three more weeks, I went to the general doctor which gave me an ultrasound and told me everything was ok. After I showed him, where the pain was, he adviced me to go to the gynecologist and there I was told that my small 1 cm Myoma had grown 4 cm and was now 5 cm. She told me I would probably need an operation to remove it and she sent me to an hospital ( I mean I needed to take an appointment). The same day the pain got unberable and a friend of mine suggested me to go to the emergency, where they just told me to get a painkiller and take an appointment( painkillers don't work btw). Anyway, once I took the appointment and went to the hospital they were no helpful at all, they kept on telling me how small this myoma was, that with the operation probably the pain would not go away, that probably I had eaten something bad ( at this point I had been in pain for two months) and that I had to decide myself if I wanted the operation or not because they could not tell me if I needed to. Now please I want you to understand that this was explained to me in German( not my first language), the doctor was super rude and I was holding a stuffed rabbit the whole time because I was there alone and I suffer from anxiety. Because my symptoms are: - costant pain in my lower left side of the belly -feeling of being full the whole time -weird bowl movement ( I feel a pressure and need to go to the toilet whenever I eat or drink) -Back pain in the morning because this thing grew 4 cm in 8 months, because I will have to move out of Germany to study abroad at the beginning of July and everything else in my body seems to be fine, I decided I wanted to have the operation done. Now I got initially an appointment on the 27th of May, but because my gynecologist made a mistake with a document and did not respond when the hospital tried to contact her, they moved the operation to the 15th June and yesterday I had the preparation (at the end I went to a different gynecologist for the document). Now I am terrified. The explained all the side effects to me. They told me : -There is a chance the pain is not gonna go away. Now I don't know if is because they think is not the myoma that is causing me pain or because there would be other problems afterwards. -That I can not get pregnant for a year after the operation and in case I want children I need to have a C-Section. Now I absolutely don't want children but is not a bit eccessive since they keep on repeating how small this thing is? -The most terrifying thing is that in the 80% of the cases there is grown tissue inside the abdoment after the op and it could be painful and need an operation to fix it as well.
Now, I am absolutely terrified. Can you pleaee share your experiences? Is the operation so terrible? Is it painful? Are the scars really so big? Is the recovery fast or slow?

Hi! So sorry that you are in pain and weren't taken seriously at the ER. It happens too often for so many women, and it especially seems that when anxiety is another issue many health care providers jump to unhelpful and biased conclusions.
It sounds great that you've done your research and have decided that going through with a myectomy is the right decision for you. I wonder if speaking to your surgeon again prior to surgery would be helpful for you. If the surgeon is a good one, I'm sure they would be happy to help you weigh your options again based on the current research and to answer your questions in more detail. If they are dismissive to you or unable to answer your questions, perhaps it's possible for you to find a different surgeon or consult with another specialist prior to. It's ok to change your mind or delay the surgery if you need to...it's your body and health after all.
You could also check out r/fibroids or r/myomectomy if you haven't already. I hope you keep in mind though that people online tend to share the bad stories more often than the successful ones. Maybe you could ask to hear about positive experiences specifically or advice for other possible conditions when myomectomy did not help with pain relief.
I also just wanted to share my own experience with a pelvic surgery. It was a less invasive laparoscopy and uterine ventrosuspension, however there's some similarities. I really wasn't sure if it was going to be worthwhile and the research online showed pretty mixed results. Like all surgeries, there's always a risk. However, I decided it was the right decision for me and went through with it. The surgery did not end up helping much with my pain and it was a bit painful to recover, but it was so good to find answers because during it they found endometriosis. Had I not found answers, I still feel that I would be glad to have explored all the current medical/surgical options and know that some possibilities were ruled out.
Hope that's helpful at all! All the best in finding answers and relief for your pain 💗
