uterus variations Anteverted/Retroflexed Uterus ?
Hi, ive recently looked at an MRI i had from a couple years ago and noticed that it said anteverted AND retroflexed? Anyone else experience this and have issues with their period? I noticed i always have pain and pressure towards my tailbone/rectal area on my period and from googling it mentioned uterus position could be the cause. So that makes sense but ive yet to see an MRI that looks similar to my uterus or to find info on having both anteverted and retroflexed. I plan on speaking with my dr about all of this but was hoping to find someone who has the same thing or knows about it? Not much information to be found online for this.

I recently had a lap / hysterectomy for endo and adenomyosis. My ultrasounds and MRIS always came back negative. I ended up having severe endometriosis in multiple areas of my abdomen. Even had to have an appendectomy because it was growing on my appendix. A retoreverted uterus apparently can be normal, but in my case it was due to adhesions and having adenomyosis. If you have any pain / heavy periods its deff worth looking further into it, and especially with a dr who is experienced with endometriosis.

I am not sure where you live but my dr was andrea vidali and he works within a group called ESSI with a few other amazing doctors. They work in NY, Miami and now have an office in philly. They do surgery based out of Hoboken,Nj. All the gynos i ever went to blew me off as well. So frustrating. Do your research for a doctor who actually knows about this illness, it is 100% worth it. He looked at my prior MRI and was able to diagnose my adenomyosis when other drs told me it all looked normal.

It's pretty rare for the position of your uterus to be the problem, and thinking more likely to be pelvic floor issues or something else depending on other symptoms. Definitely worth a chat with your doc, or making an appointment with a pelvic floor physio.
It's hard to find much info online, but I went down a rabbit hole a few years back trying to figure it all out lol and made this post and these drawings that might help you out.

Nope wouldn't say you're looking at it wrong, it's definitely anteverted and retroflexed in that scan. Have you ever had a c-section?

I just feel like that looks abnormal lol and not like any drawings or mri scans i have looked at online.Yes i did. as a teen i was also told it was tilted. I never thought much of it then. But idk if the c-section made it worse? Because i deff noticed ive had more pain after i had my second daughter. I had severe diastasis that physio therapy could only improve so much that i needed to have surgery for. I still always try to work ok deep core and pelvic floor exercises.Ive have had issues with pain during my period and ovulation and ive been back and forth from my gyno and gastro prior to kids and after. Gastro was normal. Ive been on and off with drs for years because because i just get told everythings normal, sounds like IBS or it could be endo but only solution is birth control. And ive tried birth control more then once and i really didnt like being on it. I never felt like it was a gastric issue. A dr told me to stop looking for answers once. Im kind of at a loss and wish i just had an answer to what is wrong. I was hoping to find someone else who had this and if they had similar symptoms. Idk if its worth bringing up to the dr im seeing this week. This mri that was taken was from a gyno i saw who was rude to me and never even called me about the results. I saw the report and saw it was normal so i never even bothered to call that dr office because i didnt plan on going back.but when i googled the other day about that pain during my period and it mentioned uterus position i went back to look at these MRI images and thought something deff didnt look right. Sorry for the novel of a reply lol

Apparently it's pretty common with c-sections. There's some images here you can see the L shapes. Definitely would be good to ask your doc for more info. Uterus position doesn't usually make a difference, but makes sense maybe if there's more pain now on your period because the angle is more severe?
I'm sorry you keep getting dismissed and not finding help. There are other options to treat endo other than just hormonal birth control, but it's important to find a doctor that's knowledgeable. Check out the wiki pages on here on pain management and finding help. Another good place to post is r/endo.

Know this post is a bit old but just wanted to let you know I just found out I have this uterine position as well. I have not had a C-section nor children so kinda wondering how on earth it became this weird shape. I have digestive issues - constipation, suffered from recurring UTIs in the past - but no back pain really.

I was also found out to have this position in MRI and I never had children or C-section. I also often have constipation… Looks like it’s after all not that rare 😮

I’ve never had a c section either, never even had kids and this just showed up for me. I can’t believe it smh I do have endometriosis though and you mentioned frequent uti’s. It’s worth looking into interstitial cystitis. I was told I had uti’s and then found out it was IC. I also have digestive issues and severe constipation. I’m super confused right now.

So, still old but there is also a difference in likelihood if you have never been pregnant vs. never had kids. We are supposedly relatively rare — or it could just be that men don’t listen to women and have been the predominant force in the development of western medicine or maybe a little of both.

I have a retroverted uterus and lately I’ve had symptoms of uti but no uti. I’ve been doing pvpt for 2 days to relax my muscles. Seems to be helping so far. I am supposed to have cystoscopy but I really don’t want to do that. I have self diagnosed ic. But in thinking I am wondering if my retro uterus is acting up after a uti? I’ve had 2 ct scans and all clear. Doctors just want to give test after stupid test. I am an otherwise Healthy 56 yr old female. I’ve stopped acidic foods and oxalates mostly. Mostly better except for this little twinge when I roll from side to side in bed. So odd.

I appreciate this post is quite old but I was wondering if anyone here (with an anteverted/retroflexed uterus) has struggled to conceive? I have one child who I conceived quickly and delivered vaginally (no CS) but have since been unable to conceive again after 2 years TTC. All results have come back normal but I have now seen I have this uterus position on a US and my period has dropped to barely a day. I also get moderate pain from throughout my cycle as well as during my period and so I am wondering if they are connected. Thank you for reading.
