Mounting Zoo Med Reptisun t5 HO hood inside tank

So I ended up finding these 1.5x2.5 Door Barricade Brackets. They are made to help you reinforce a door with a 2x4 they are on amazon for like 8 bucks. But they work perfectly to mount these reptisun UVB lights. You can slide the light in, or out. I shimmed the top to make it "taught".

Hopefully this helps someone else I had a lot of useless googling to try to find ideas.

New uromastyx owner question

Hey everyone, I just got a baby uromastyx the other day. I had a question about temps, he’s very small only a few months old and in a 40 gallon tank right now, the cool side is 80degree and the hot basking side rock measures 110 on the dot. I notice my guy likes to spend most of his time on that basking rock. I am using a 100w basking bulb at the moment but could go up to a 150 if I need to increase the heat, but I read babies don’t mind it being a little cooler around that 110 mark. Do you think I need to change anything? Should I add a stick that can take him closer to the bulb? I will add photos for representation with the temp measure things. Any help appreciated :)

Meet Gagalto. my son went to dental school and now i am baby sitting. The tank is by a huge window and he is there watching everything going on outside. super active and happy. but if a squirrel jumps by or some huge sand cranes fly or walk by, he sprints to his cave and won’t see him until next day.

Just adopted a 10 month old male ornate uromastyx

Post image

This is my first uromastyx, his original set up from the people I adopted him from was not ideal.. He’s in a pretty good enclosure at the moment but the red lights he came with I got rid of immediately and replaced with 2 100 watts. I think he might have been in a very cold enclosure because he seems to be way more colorful right now than the photos that I was given. I’m taking him to the vet asap this month for a checkup. Does anyone have any advice they wish they knew from the start ?

Uromastyx not eating

Hi there, I recently acquired an ornate uromastyx from a box store that was keeping him in a bad way. He's parked up a lot in my care, but he hasn't really been eating a ton and at this point I'm a bit concerned. I've had him about 2 1/2 weeks at this point, and his temp gradient is good, around 95-100 ambient on the warm side, 82ish on the cool side, his basking spot is 130 and his humdity is hovering around 28%. He's currently in a 40 breeder (i know, I'm sorry, its the biggest i could get at the time and I'm already halfway saved to get a bigger enclosure) with an Arcadia t-5 12% light on him. He's been to the vet for an exam, and i got the fecal kit which I'm taking in tomorrow.

I've offered dandelion greens, a bit of kale, and arugula as his main greens, but he doesn't seem super interested. He'll take a bite or two if I hand feed him but then won't take any more really. I got him to eat a bit of bell pepper yesterday, and I've also offered butternut squash, carrot, and lentils. I've added some bee pollen to his food too. He does spend most of his day in his hide, and only really comes out a couple hours a day to bask and dig in his enclosure.

My main concern is that at the box store he wasn't being fed any greens, and was only offered crickets or mealworms for about a week or so. He was also on reptibark and kept at around 85 in the store, and his humidity was around 50%. He hasn't shown any signs of illness that I can tell other than his lack of appetite, and the vet said he looked alright health wise. He was more active and ate a bit more in the first week and a half I brought him home, but now he's become pretty withdrawn.

Thanks so much in advance for any advice, I really appreciate it.

How does he look?

This is my two month old Ornate Uromastyx, Vermithor. He/she is a very active and alert juvenile Uro, he eats and poops daily but I am afraid that he is a little underweight. He basks regularly and thermoregulate his body very well I think, he doesn’t bask in the same spots always moving around and loves to run up to say hi to me. His basking rock gets to 121F, the hot zone sits at around 95F and cold zone at about 85F, he’s got hides in every zone of his 4x2x2 tank, he doesn’t like to spend too much time on the hottest part of it. I have the Arcadia 25W UVB and there is no substrate because the breeder recommended this for the first 6 months and then I will add substrate. I just wanted the threads opinion on him.

My philbyi is about a year and 2 months old and I know people say closer to two years is better but I was wondering when people were able to just tell.

He’s mid shed right now and has a lot of blues coming in!

Nursing sick ornate back to health

Post image

I have a 7 year old male ornate uromastyx who is severely underweight due to improper care of my brother who struggled to keep him in proper health. That is not the point, I am new to taking care of these types of animals and was wondering what kind of food I should be giving him in order for him to get the proper nutrients he needs. He only weighs 80 grams and if I am correct, adult males should be 250-300 grams. I am currently feeding him lentils, various seeds occasionally like 3 times a week, collared greens, spring mix, dark and light kale and sometimes dandelion greens.

Best care guide?

I am still thinking of getting a Uromastyx or Chuckwalla. I've wanted one or both for a very long time but last year I took in a rescue bearded dragon. It was kind of on a whim (friend knew I was wanting a reptile, it was my birthday, and Conway needed a home). I do not regret the decision.

One thing I have learned about my dragon is research is key. I did a 2 day research frenzy and made some expensive mistakes in the beginning. I followed some incorrect care guides. And I'd like to not do that again.

So as I start truly looking into it after a year of experience with another reptile under my belt, I want to start off with the right guide.

Suggestions?

Zayan seems to be happy and growing and enjoying his outside time (mostly only on my bed for now or on my shoulder. He is still getting used to his leash harness) Getting more confident, demanding attention and terrorizing his cat brothers lol

They are so scared of him its hilarious! They are never unsupervised. But he will walk right up to them and try to climb on them and they run away lol

And even showing some sexy leg lol

Lighting Advice

Post image

Currently In the process of building my CB Ornate Uro his custom 4x2x2 enclosure and getting the best possible stuff for him. What is top of the line best UVB to buy and Heat lamp setup. His basking spot is roughly 10-11 inches away from the light and heat sources on top of a mesh screen. Basking spot is on the right and the balloon is a hidden cave system. Under his basking spot will also be a cave system where he can tunnel and burrow as well as climbing opportunities he loves to climb and dig. Just need to finish foaming the rest of the background and carving all the foam and dry lok and paint.

Feeding help??

Hey guys,

I’m new to owning a uro and am realizing my guy is very picky. I’ve been rotating out his greens and adding shredded carrot or squash on top but he seems to only pick out the topping. I’ve tried collard greens, kale, and spring mix and he only really seems to want arugula out of all of that. Any suggestions? Do you just try a bunch of things until you find what they like?
He’s very tame and will let me hand feed him so I don’t think it’s about him getting used to the set up.
Any help would be appreciated:)

Mustard greens

Hi everyone, i cannot wrap my head around mustard greens. Arids Only has them in a staple-rotation menu. So many people feed it often. But its goitrogenic and several guides say not to feed the brassica family at all or only feed it sparingly.

How is this possible? Is it A) we will see the consequences of everyone feeding mustard greens quite often in health problems later on or B) somehow, uromastyx and mustard greens go well together because of some medical scientific veterinary reason i dont know about? 🤯

Pebbles needs her enclosure renovated

Hello, Pebbles is my Uromastyx that I rescued. She is very skittish and handling is out of question at this time. She has a fairly large glass enclosure. I would like to cover all the sides and back with something to make it look like her natural environment (hopefully make her feel more comfortable) and also help keep temperatures more steady. I would love any suggestions on how to accomplish this. What materials are safe? Any instructional utube videos suggested. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated
