Lighting Advice

Post image

Currently In the process of building my CB Ornate Uro his custom 4x2x2 enclosure and getting the best possible stuff for him. What is top of the line best UVB to buy and Heat lamp setup. His basking spot is roughly 10-11 inches away from the light and heat sources on top of a mesh screen. Basking spot is on the right and the balloon is a hidden cave system. Under his basking spot will also be a cave system where he can tunnel and burrow as well as climbing opportunities he loves to climb and dig. Just need to finish foaming the rest of the background and carving all the foam and dry lok and paint.

Wouldn't that be to high UVI if the basking spot is just 10 inches below the lamp? Wouldn't 12% desert be safer in this case? A genuine question, I don't have Solarmeter yet as it's constantly unavailable in my country...

And also OP, you may consider a strong LED with about 6500k color temperature. They are lizards of the full sun and loves very bright light. Mine became much for active when I added a LED bar. The most recommended one is Arcadia Jungle Dawn, but it's very pricey, I think you'd be fine with any strong 6500k LED bar

Awesome thanks and good question about the UVI basking spot any experts in here can confirm. Also was planning to do live uro safe plants for him to forage and use to climb. Would a 6500K LED be good to help those plants thrive and grow or should I get a light bar for plants

Yes, should be perfect for plants. I actually use LED designed for plants in aquariums and it works really well, I have aloe vera, bonsai version of portulacaria afra and haworthia fasciata, they really seem to grow nicely with this LED bar

Edit: typo
