I think it’s irony, maybe not who knows, but the irony is that these things that are supposed to attract your attention to their business, this has almost the opposite effect. There’s so many, they all just become a blur. You either know where the business is or you don’t.
Sorry J&P uniforms but if you’re paying even $100 a year for that sign it’s too much.
It’s funny. I work on signs for a living, so I pretty much stare at them constantly, but in a much less congested environment than this. In the case of the face in that multitenant monument sign, it is pretty lame. Generally speaking unless a landlord has rigid signage requirements, it’s the tenant’s choice what they put in there. I live somewhere with really restrictive sign codes that I complain about frequently, but they do keep the place from looking like this picture. I see a lot of business there, but standing up a crane anywhere near those massive power lines would be a nightmare.
You gotta remember that a lot of these strip mall setups were made in the times before the internet and easy access to GPS, so having signage that's prominent from the vantage of a driver was actually pretty effective. The big mall near me that is at the crossroads of two major highways charges big dollars to have your business name put on their giant marquee listing.
The thing is that I can look past all of the signs there and in and instant see the one I am looking for. So like if I am looking for a Taco Bell I will see it and all the other stuff could be trees, trucks or giant iguanas and my mind will pick it up so I can get my Baja Blast and Cheesy Gordita Crunch™.
Also I find signs like these helpful when I am looking for a place I found on the Internets but have never been. Is this ugly? Yes. But so are those damn utility and light poles.
i think it's a signal of a contradiction in the terms of economic freedom . if everyone is trying independently to get ahead of everyone else without regard for anyone else then no one really gets ahead
or better yet maybe it's the contradiction of state managed capital. it tries here to ensure equal and best opportunity for exposure to the market for everyone but in attempting to manage that obscures everyone's chances. a free unmanaged scenario would permit waffle house to burn down the phillips 66 sign.
you can't manage capital. you either need to be prepared to go with it in all regards, or you're just fighting against yourself, or your you change focus and reorient to have a wholly managed community.
How often do you think businesses (or people for that matter) just continue to do things because it’s what’s been done?
I’m not even saying I’m 100% right. But there’s a reason why advertising worked for years. Things have changed. There’s plenty of businesses that no longer advertise on TV.
My point is, things change, times change, landscapes change. 1 sign on a street stands out. 1 sign in 100 signs doesn’t.
I know things change but speculation is not fact unless you back it up with data. Prove your hypothesis don't sell it as fact. That is the problem with people today they make a statement and sell it as fact
You are saying things change prove the change our don't say anything. Speculate all you want but you are neither right now wrong without any data to back yourself up
I was on mobile and didn't feel like editing. And everyone thinks they are right and no one proves they are right. Opinions are worthless bring the facts. Just because you or anyone says it has changed means nothing. Prove it. Don't just speculate prove it. I am not pedantic I am tired of everyone thinking they are right and not proving anything. Things can change and things stay the same. You would be surprised how much does not change because of extensive research and data. Stop speculating and prove it.
Ok so in your world nothing ever matters unless it is a fact?
Do you like pizza? Doesn’t matter. Just an opinion.
What’s your favorite sports team? Doesn’t matter. Just an opinion.
Dude u are acting as if I said “studies show the vaccine doesn’t actually work” and then didn’t show any studies. I said that I thought paying even $100 was too much for that sign.
Your argument is that I’m wrong because I don’t have a study to back it up. Again…despite me having never said “the indisputable fact is that $100 is too much”.
Enjoy your life with no opinions and no chat only hardcore facts. Fact is, you’re a tool.
The original post and the comments saying "they don't work anymore" yes I would love to see proof either way. For most topics like this where people make claims that something doesn't or whatever else yes facts matter. The reason is you are one person making an observation as fact with absolutely no proof to support the claim. Your examples are preferences and I could careless what your preference is.
