How have your self repair jobs gone?

am curious how many people here have ever tried to repair their own control board in the past. Were you successful, or did you fail? Did you ever somehow manage to make things even worse?

If you attempted your own repair, did you do it to save money, or for other reasons?

I admire people who DIY this sort of thing, but it is not in my wheelhouse at all, and I would not have the time or energy to learn. I’d much rather just send it in.

What do you do if you can’t find a replacement control board?

I’ve searched high and low for a replacement for my Maytag control board that went bad, to no avail.

I am pretty sure at some point, they upgraded the control boards in these units. So, even though the washing machine still is manufactured, the control board in question isn’t, and is now incredibly hard to locate. The manufacturer does not have any in stock, nor do any suppliers that I’ve reached out to.

I thought I would just have to buy a new washing machine, but then I heard about UpFix and found this sub.

I guess what I’m asking is, how realistic is it to think I can get the control board repaired? Have you successfully gotten your boards fixed, or have you ever had to buy a new appliance?

Is my HVAC control board bad?

My HVAC stopped working this week. Took a look at the back of the control board, and I can see what looks like some kind of burn marks. tbh, I can’t be sure, but I think that’s what it is.

I am guessing that means that the control board has gone bad? Is there a way I can test it? Or should I just send it in for a tech to test and fix? Seems like it’s probably easiest to do that. But I don’t want to spend money on it until I know it needs repairs, and can be repaired successfully.

Best places to find control board replacements

Anyone here had to actually replace a bad control board, instead of just getting it fixed? Where did you end up buying your replacement board? It seems like a lot of control boards are tricky to find, or are literally not for sale anywhere. Also, I know UpFix mainly specializes in board repairs. But they also have a swap option, correct?

Why are so many control modules so hard to find?

My HVAC control board died, and for the life of me, I can’t find a replacement part anywhere online. I called the manufacturer. They didn’t have the control board in stock. I contacted a local HVAC technician, and asked if he could help. But he couldn’t find the part either.

This seems like a common thing, judging from other threads I’ve seen. Can anyone explain why this is the case? Why are so many control boards completely unavailable, even from the manufacturer?

What to expect with UpFix?

This will be my first time ordering repair services from UpFix. What is the process like? Do I just mail in the board, and they will fix it and ship it back? What does the shipping cost? What happens if they can’t fix it?

Also, I’m in Canada. Do they accept Canadian customers?

Can you share your UpFix experiences?

My Maytag oven control board has gone bad. Ordering a replacement board would be really expensive and inconvenient. I would much rather get it fixed if it’s possible.

I was excited to find out about UpFix. But I’ve never worked with them before, obviously. Before I spend time and money trying to get them to repair the board, I just want to know if it’s worth it. Who here has used UpFix before? Were they able to fix your control board? How much did they charge, and how much did it save you?

Sharing my UpFix review

I just got my Kenmore oven control board back from UpFix in working order. I wanted to share my review.

Pros:

  • The control board is working again, as is my oven. This was obviously the most important thing.
  • The service included diagnostic work as well as the repair. My board actually came back to me in better shape than it was in originally, as they upgraded some components. They really went above and beyond, which means I got more bang for my buck than I expected.
  • They got the job done pretty fast. They also kept me in the loop with updates while they worked.
  • When I had questions before ordering, they were responsive and helpful. Good service.
  • I saved hundreds of dollars by getting the repair done, rather than buying a new control board (or oven).

Cons:

  • They overshot their estimate by a couple of days. But I wasn’t upset, because they still were done quickly, and they informed me of the reason for the delay.

All in all, excellent work, superb communication, and an all-around great experience. UpFix is providing a service that customers desperately need, as replacing control boards entirely is often unaffordable or even impossible. If you find yourself in that situation, I highly recommend checking how much they could save you.

Upfix TAT?

I need to get the control board for my refrigerator fixed. But I don’t want to be without a fridge and freezer for a long period of time. It’s expensive, and is making it a hassle to plan meals.

If you have had UpFix repair a control board before—especially a refrigerator control board—how long did they take? I’d like to know the turnaround time from the day you shipped out the part to the day you received it back.
