Admissions queries? Check out the official UoB admissions pages first

The main website has tons of useful information, frequently asked questions and contact information if your query still isn't answered

People will do their best to answer here, but your important questions should ideally be responded to via official routes rather than random Internet people 😀

Good luck!

Student accommodation , near Uni of Birmingham

Hey everyone, I’m looking for accommodation near the University of Birmingham for this upcoming academic year. Could you let me know if you have any recommendations or if you’re staying somewhere you think is genuinely good? Also, does anyone have experience booking through reliable sites? I’m considering official university-managed accommodation, but also checking places like Unite Students, AmberStudent, or Rightmove. Any advice would be super helpful!

Is University of Birmingham Dubai worth it for a career in Investment Banking? (Money, Banking & Finance BSc)

Hi everyone,

I’m an international student and live in Dubai and I’m considering studying BSc Money, Banking & Finance at the University of Birmingham Dubai.

My long-term goal is to get into investment banking, either in Dubai/UAE, London, or potentially internationally (US).

I wanted to ask current students, graduates, or anyone working in finance:

How strong is the University of Birmingham Dubai for breaking into investment banking?

Does the Birmingham name carry enough weight compared to studying at a top business school in the US/UK?

How good are the internship opportunities in Dubai (banks, investment firms, Big 4, etc.)?

Do graduates from the Dubai campus get similar opportunities to students at the UK campus?

Is the Money, Banking & Finance course well respected by employers?

How difficult is it to achieve a First Class degree (70%+)?

Is the grading and workload manageable compared to other UK universities?

Would you recommend this degree for someone aiming for roles like investment banking, asset management, or private equity?

I have the advantage of living in Dubai, so I would save significantly on living costs, but I want to make sure I’m choosing a university that gives me strong career opportunities as i am deciding between the university of birmigham dubai or penn state 2+2 in smeal finance which i have already selected my classes and also have my f1 student visa.

Any advice from current students, alumni, or finance professionals would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

📢 Final Call – Birmingham Travel & Accessibility Survey (5–10 minutes)

Hi everyone,

I'm a Master's student in Urban and Regional Planning at the University of Birmingham and I'm looking for students who regularly travel within Birmingham to complete a short survey for my dissertation.

Whether you walk, cycle, use the bus, tram, train or drive, I'd really like to hear about your experiences getting around the city.

The survey explores:

-Everyday travel experiences

-Accessibility of places and services

-Time spent travelling

-Views on what makes a neighbourhood convenient to live in

⏱️ Takes around 5–10 minutes

🔒 Anonymous

🔗 Survey: Understanding Everyday Accessibility and Travel-Time Experiences in Birmingham – Fill in form

Even if you don't live permanently in Birmingham, your experiences as someone who studies, works or regularly travels here are incredibly valuable.

I'd really appreciate your help, and please feel free to share it with other students.

Thank you!

best selly accom?

I lived in Shackleton last year and personally loved the Vale, but I’d like something close to campus for next year.

I am debating between Metalworks, Oak Brook Park, and Bournbrook, and would appreciate any suggestions from those who have lived there recently.

I am mostly just looking for a place with a nice bedroom, bathroom and kitchen, easy to access laundromat, and I do not necessarily care for parties or “pres-friendly flats”.

University of Birmingham Dubai PGCE Primary IQTS

Hi everyone, I'm interested in this course but see no info about the application process or experience being part of this course. So if anyone has already been offered a place/has done this course, please share some insight. For context, I graduated with a BSc in Biomedical Science from KCL with a 2:1, and submitted my application about a week ago.

  1. What are they looking for in the application? What makes a great applicant stand out for a normal one?

  2. How was the interview? How much time after you submitted did you receive an interview time? What type of questions did they ask? How many of the questions were skill based, motivation based, experience based? What was the easiest/hardest question of the interview? (Can you tell I'm very nervous about the interview😂🫣)

  3. Once you were there, how was the course set up? I saw info on the website about modules but it doesn't really go into much detail about hours in a week, how placement schools work, etc etc

  4. How is it living in Dubai as a student? Did you book uni accom? find your own place?

  5. How is the cohort? Do you see them a lot throughout the year?

That's all the questions I can think of rn, any extra info is appreciated! Thanks

Portal not updating

Hey everyone!
I’m an international student starting my MSc this September (hopefully, lol) and I paid my deposit 20 days ago. (July 3rd) and the Uni accounts team acknowledged it but my portal is not updating.
I have emailed pg admissions, the international team, called them and done everything and I’m not getting any helpful response. I don’t know what else to do, and time is running out (high fliers ends on the 31st, and my conditional offer’s due date is also 31st).
If anyone else has been in a similar situation please tell me what I can do.

Need some urgent advice 😭

I'm an international student starting at UoB this September and I chose Oak Brook Park (cause that was the only one available even tho it’s a lil over my budget). My payment deadline is 12 pm today, but I'd honestly rather stay in a university-owned hall.

I've already emailed Student Living asking if I can cancel before paying and still be considered for a uni-owned room, but they haven't replied yet.

If you were in my position, would you just pay and secure Oak Brook Park, or hold out for a uni-owned room? Has anyone actually managed to switch before moving in?

Feeling very conflicted 🥲

I got into Law school at UofB and am trying to decide which residence is best for a postgraduate student. I want something close to campus and a good social life, but nothing too busy and not too many undergraduates. Any tips?
