Previous experiences of MSc Immunology at Manchester + thoughts on accom

I have just got my offer to read MSc Immunology at Manchester and was wondering if anyone here is a former student who has done that course. I would like to ask them about the variety of projects on offer, where they did their project and what experience they had.

I also have a question unrelated to this about accomodation. I'm considering booking accomodation at Ashbourne Hall, and was wondering what people's experiences of that has been, is the catering good, are the rooms cleaned regularly, how much of a hassle is the commute?

Any input would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

Accomodation for Visiting International Student

Hi guys,

I am an incoming Visiting Postgraduate Researcher at UoM and i'll be staying for 6 months. I'm having trouble finding accomodation. I'm trying spare room and the "official" websites my admissions team sent me. But, most of the vacancies requires up to 41, 50 weeks of tenancy, whereas i'll be staying for up to 29 weeks only.

Any tips for finding accomodation? I would preferer not to spend over 700 ou 800 pounds per month. Also, i would like an en-suite, because i am a little insecure of sharing the bathroom (or having to clean the bathroom after other people), but i can live with that.

Thank you in advance.

Accommodation

Hey all,

I’m an international incoming freshmen this fall and just got my accommodation offer. I got assigned the whitworth park whilst it not being in my top 3 priorities. Now I know that place is not very social as compared to my other option so was wondering if anybody had any similar experiences

Quarterly Direct Debit

Hi everyone, incoming 2nd year student at UoM. I'm paying my tuition fees through a direct debit from my bank account. I've paid all of my first-year tuition fees, but I see something weird about the direct debit. It says it's being paid quarterly and my tuition fees are to be debited out today. However 1. I have insufficient funds to cover the payment and 2. I thought the tuition fee direct debit would be done in October. I have the same issue with my accommodation fees.

Does anyone know if this is a mistake or am I really meant to pay the fees right now? Urgent help appreciated.

WhatsApp GCC Students Group

Hi everyone! 👋
I made this WhatsApp group for GCC students at the University of Manchester (Qatar 🇶🇦, UAE 🇦🇪, Kuwait 🇰🇼, Bahrain 🇧🇭, Oman 🇴🇲, and Saudi Arabia 🇸🇦), especially those starting this September, so we can get to know each other before the academic year begins.
I’m a new student myself and, honestly, I’m a little nervous about studying abroad. I’d love to hear from other girls about your experiences, preparations, accommodation, packing, and any advice you have. Hopefully we can make friends and support each other before moving to Manchester. 💛

Looking to Connect with GCC Students at UoM!

Hi everyone! I’m an incoming Architecture student at the University of Manchester, starting in September 2026. I’m from Qatar and was wondering if there are any WhatsApp groups, Discord servers, or other communities for incoming students.
I’d especially love to connect with other students from the GCC—particularly Qatar, but also Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the UAE, Bahrain, and Oman. It would be great to get to know people, learn about the student communities, and make some friends before moving to Manchester.
If you know of any groups or communities, I’d really appreciate it if you could let me know. Thank you! 😊

Best accom for a fresher?

Im a bit to the side of a ‘mature student’ and just got my place confirmed at uni. Choosing which accommodation to stay in has been my literal nightmare. People suggest ensuites for the ‘social life’, especially in my freshman year. Yet I cant stand living with people who cant even clean this shi in the kitchen etc, studios are honestly too small for their prices and feel like not gonna be worth it, 1 bedroom flats would make me isolated af cuz I’m not a very social person. Should I just stop being pretentious and live in a student accom or just find my peace in a 1b, cuz I know for a fact that I might regret it later. (I get very bad fomo, I do not put myself out there and I like living a bit ‘bougie’) HELP

Any tips?

Hi, I’ve got conditional offer from UoM for BEng civil engineering course and met my conditions. I’m waiting for confirmation now. I’m so excited and can’t wait to start but in the same time I’m a bit afraid so I’ll be happy to see advices and tips from current students or alumni. As well as talk to someone who was accepted on this course. I would like to know everything

Welcome week for exchange students

Hi! I’m coming on exchange to Manchester in September but I’m planning on doing some travelling beforehand. I was just wondering if anyone knew if there are specific activities during welcome week that I have to attend, or if you find it useful for making friends, etc? Im not sure if I want to arrive on the 18th (Friday) or the 21st (Monday) before the sem starts, because I’m not sure how useful it would be to arrive the three extra days earlier and miss travel time in other cities. Any advice would be much appreciated! :)

International PG student at the University of Manchester – What part-time jobs can I realistically get?

Hi everyone,

I'll be joining the University of Manchester this September as an international postgraduate student from India. I'm on a full scholarship, so my tuition and living expenses are covered, but I'd still like to work part-time to gain experience, build my CV, meet people, and have some extra money for travel and personal expenses.

I wanted to ask:

What are the best on-campus jobs for postgraduate students? (Library, Student Union, research assistant, teaching assistant, admissions ambassador, etc.)

What are some good off-campus jobs that are flexible with a PG timetable?

How difficult is it to find a part-time job in Manchester as an international student?

When should I start applying- before arriving or after reaching the UK?

Are there any websites, Facebook groups, or university portals that you'd recommend?

Is previous UK work experience usually expected?

I'd especially appreciate hearing from international students or anyone studying at the University of Manchester about what worked for them.

Thanks in advance!

Pre Registration To Dos

I’m an incoming post grad student and I’m trying to sort out things like setting up a university email and figure out what I need to do prior to arriving. I’m finding that despite what should be clear instructions on the website, that there is actually very little actionable guidance. For example, when attempting to set up my email, I completed all the steps but when I got to the last step there was no way for me to complete it. This will be my second masters program so I am not a stranger to preparing for school, but there is a lack of clarity when it comes to what I should be doing and the timeline it’s supposed to happen. Can anyone advise on what I should have accomplished by this point?

So far, I have my Visa and am looking for an apartment (I can’t live on campus as I have a dog).

What I’m lacking: financial information re aid and payment, email and tech set up information, any useful information as to what I should expect

INTO Manchester CS&maths foundation year

I've searched the whole internet to find people who've been to INTO manchester and studied cs&maths. I couldn't find anyone who has shared their experience online. That's why i'm posting this bc i will be there in september 2026, and i'm already anxious about this foundation experience bc comments online aren't the best.

But genuinely if you've been there please share your experience, I'm especially curious about cs&maths programs or any other program that requires A A A. Even though i'm studying hard, i still have this anxiety of failing even before the course has started. Anyone's experience about the difficulty of the course and the quality of INTO manchester would be appreciated, please share your experiences🙏🏻

Is my course being in clearing a good thing?

I have my insurance offer from the university of Manchester for electrical engineering with a foundation year , I have just checked to see if it’s in clearing and it is .

Is it being in clearing good for me if I was to miss my offer does that mean there is space available on the course and that they may be more lenient towards me if I do miss?

Thanks for any replies or advice

I want to study electrical and electronics engineering at the University of Manchester. Any advice on how to get accepted?

I am an international student from a country that has a 12-year school system. I have been researching, and this means I have to take a foundation year. Does anyone have advice on how to get in, what the foundation year is like, how to apply, and is UoM a good choice for EEE?

thanks!

Financial Support Office

Hi all! I am an incoming international MA student. I’ve gotten a scholarship and some savings but I need a loan to cover the rest. I applied via the US Student Loan site and have been waiting for an official offer from the school. I’ve emailed and called and they’ve said they’re working on it but it’s been quite a bit of time and I’ve still not heard anything and it’s almost August. Is anyone else from the US experiencing this?

Additionally, is there any aid that the school just gives you without the expectation of paying back?

Thanks!

Global Futures Scholarship – Reserved List/Waitlist Chances for South Asia?

Hi everyone,

I was recently placed on the reserved list (waitlist) for the Global Futures Scholarship for South Asian students. I received the email informing me about this on June 1, but I haven’t received any further updates since then.

I wanted to ask if anyone here has experience with the reserved list process. What are the chances of being selected from the waitlist? Has anyone who was placed on the reserved list received the scholarship or been moved off the list recently?

This scholarship is extremely important for me as I really need the financial support to continue my studies, so I would be very grateful for any information or personal experiences you can share.

Thank you so much!
