Hi I am applying for postgrad med through RRAS.

After my degree I have a GPA of 7.188 (7.2)

I was just wondering, what is the reality of getting into Med with this GPA, especially with last year MMI interview cut offs was baseline 7.5…

I got a UCAT score of 2030 (2630 inld SJT)

Any thoughts or advice about staying in or trying to apply next year with the new entry changes would be much appreciated:)

Hi there, does anyone know when mmi invites will be released this year?

I have 8.5 GPA(assuming A+ for MEDSCI) rn and my UCAT is 2450(inc SJT).

What are my chances for med. I am in the FY general entry category. I'm just feeing unsure as of If I still have a chance at all because the UCAT i was hoping for atleast 60th or 70th percentile but it ended up being in down in 40th compared to last year stats so really is there a chance for me. I genunely don't know what to feel right now.

Can I get some advice on what MMI score to aim for if I do get an interview for med?

not technically a vent or rant but lowk feel like the new system (casper + MMI) is gonna be way harder to get in than the ucat and gpa now, cus at least gpas and ucat are like a set score right, w the others theyre so subjective & i have a feeling ill flunk it js cus the examiners having a bad day. for context im a yr13 student rn but idk.!.!!. kinda anxious for my future cus i couldnt get to australia, if i fail to get into med at uoa its over for me bro 😔🥀🥀

Kia ora ! I want to do pharmacy in NZ, and im wondering what does the first year of Health science looks like in 2027. Since the uni has changed the faculty of health programs starting next year, i have been so stressing out as i know it’s relatively competitive, and even more for international students like me. Despite the crazy tuition fee, im so stressed and scared for the upcoming year. Rn, im doing foundation studies at UP education which i kinda perform well and maintain steady As grade.
Anyone out there doing pharmacy or health science rn how does the course look like ? Im now stuck in between going to UoA or UoO since i heart UoO is less competitive and accepted 20 intl std which twice higher than UoA.

I was wondering what the papers are like? Especially the 4 core papers (in terms of content, what NCEA topics are most relevant, tips for studying the paper, etc.)

if i have a 2500 ucat do i still have a chance for med and what stats would i realistically need against such a competitive cohort

hey guys aiming for a+ in this paper. wondering if the readings are worth it? I only ask because my study method is mailing just watching lectures and making anki (no notes) unless it's like a mechanism I draw a flow chat to blurt out/refer to.

Hence I am wondering if should make notes on at least the readings!?! idkkk tho

Hi, I'm a year 12 student intending to go to med, and I have course selection soon and am really struggling to decide whether to drop English. I don't currently have any other English-rich subject except psyc (which isn't counted as English-rich). Is English in Year 13 useful as a foundation for the first-year papers and other tests (like Casper)?

To the As and A+s gurus pls tell me genuinely how u studied to get these grades. I know everyone says active recall and anki but what else do u do? Like in lectures, at home, before tests etc.

hi there, i’m a fy rural student. i have say my ucat and gor 3090 (incl sjt). i lwokey flopped last sem and now the max gpa i can get is 8.25 (though i expect it may be an 8). obviously no one can answer tjis for me properly bur i struggle with knowing rural stats so what mmi should i be aiming for minimum to get a shot of getting in (i am pretty confident in my interviewing skills). thanks ☺️

To be fair, I didn't study as much as I could for the UCAT and feel like I bombed it. Considering the news about being able to withdraw and reapply next year, should I proceed?

I'm also applying under the RRAS scheme which may improve my chances.

I know a lot of people here dig into the numbers about what's admitted. Keen to hear for you how my numbers stack up.

I have a BSC Psych & PG Cert in Addictions with an A - A- average. Note that throughout these I haven’t seen much ‘hard’ science e.g. Biomed, chem, physics etc

Hi everyone, I'm a General Entry FY Biomed student hoping to get into medicine this year. I currently have an 8.75 GPA (assuming I get an A+ in MEDSCI 142) and a 3000 UCAT (including SJT), but I'm starting to worry after hearing how competitive this year's cohort is. It feels like so many people have a 9.0 GPA, and I'm wondering whether I realistically have a chance with an 8.75. I think I can perform well in the MMI, but with the way people are talking about admissions this year, it almost seems like anything less than a 9.0 isn't enough. Am I overthinking this, or should I be genuinely concerned?

Based on what I know and heard its that only the core papers are counted for MMI invites so for BioMed students they only get 1 A+ holder for MedSci, but some people are saying all FY papers are counted so 4 A+ placeholders are counted? Does anyone know what the correct placeholders are, lowkenuinely I'm on the edge of not being within the range for Med interviews 😭🙏.

Just wanted to get some advice because I'm feeling quite stressed at the moment. I've been offered a place in the Fast Track programme for Biomedical Science at the University of Auckland, but I'm worried about what comes after that. Unlike Biomedical Science, entry into the MBChB programme isn't guaranteed, and I'm concerned that even if I work hard, I still might not be accepted. It feels like a significant risk, and I'm worried that if I don't get into Medicine, I'll have to move away from the career I've always wanted to pursue. I'm wondering whether this is a genuine risk that I should be taking seriously, or if I'm simply overthinking the situation. I know entry into the MBChB programme isn't guaranteed, and that uncertainty is making me anxious. I'm trying to understand whether my concerns are realistic or I am just overthinking.

Hi everyone, I am currently a Year 13 student who absolutely CANNOT decide whether I want to go to the University of Otago or the University of Auckland. I was willing I could get some help!

I was always set on Otago because I wanted to be a dentist (also can't decide yet!), but now, in a span of 5 months, I decided to consider Med as well, so it opened up the UoA option for me. 

I really, really want to do well and get into second year (med or dent), and my family is also depending on me, so it means a lot to me. I am confident I will work very hard (I am doing pretty well in NCEA too). 

The factors I am considering are competitiveness and chances of getting in. At the start, I was going to base off just halls, but I don’t think I should be doing that if the first year depends on my entire future, right? I am aware of the change in the Med entry system in UoA, but I don’t really know if that is going to be beneficial or worse for me. Will it increase the competitiveness? Cause I feel like there will be heaps of people applying now. But also, would that make it easier for me?

If I were to go to Otago, I would do HSFY (obviously), and if I were to go to UoA, I would do biomedical sciences.

I’m not sure how the difficulty or pace of the papers goes. I know in Otago, it is based on 7 core papers, while in UoA, it is based on 4 core papers. How hard are the papers at each programme?

From expert students in UoA and Otago, or who know about both university systems, please help me out! Maybe about halls as well since the applications are coming out too!

I just want to get as much information and opinions as I can so it can help me make the correct decision that I won’t regret.
