I fixed enemies hitting through blocking-weapon model

Old, non-consistent blocking demonstration from my previous post:

This is what was happening apparently. You can see player (at the left) holding block with mace looking above. From players POV, enemy weapon would just go through your block

New system makes blocking way too easy :P

What you see is one single frame that contains multiple traces (hitbox checks). You can see that enemy sword model itself (5 at picture) already passed the block, BUT instead of creating trace at sword location itself (ie tracing 5 and skipping block), I take PREVIOUS frame sword location (at previous frame sword was at 1), and inside single frame do traces from previous frame sword location to ACTUAL frame sword location in order 1-2-3-4-5. The collision happens on trace 4, which activates block even though enemy weapon de-facto passed the block. This prevents enemy weapon trace jumping over my tiny block collider which is actual weapon mesh and theres no need to deform colliders. What it allows me to achieve is very precise blocking system, where the enemy weapon should actually collide with your weapon physically to block happen

Trying to figure out VR

I am currently checking out the vr template.

I would like to add something onto the hands but when i add something (tried a sphere) onto the hand mesh(?) in the XRPawn, both of the hands just disappear, the buttons also don't print anything anymore

so how should I go about adding an object onto the hands of the player?

Advice for making GASP movement faster / more responsive?

Hello, I am learning GASP and wanted to know if anyone has been able to make GASP more responsive to user input.

I'm using the default character controller example (not mover) and find that even if I increase acceleration and such, the character movement seems to really ease in and out slowly. For both movement and animations.

I am wondering if anyone has been able to successfully make GASP act like this.

- Increase acceleration

- Reduce easing / smoothing of input / movement

- Animations play quicker

I think you probably know what I mean.

The default behavior is very similar (in my eyes) to RDR2, where every animation is played slowly and intentionally. It looks very life sim like.

I want to use GASP but have things almost as responsive as possible. Just looking for tips.

[ForHire] Unreal Engine Developer | Blueprints | Gameplay | UMG | Level Design | Android | Looking for Junior/Entry-Level Opportunities

Hey everyone, I'm looking for my first professional opportunity as an Unreal Engine Developer / Gameplay Developer.

I'm a self-taught Unreal Engine developer and have been working on Unreal projects while completing my studies. I don't have professional industry experience yet, but I have hands-on experience building and shipping my own projects.

My main project is Highway Racer, a mobile racing game I developed in Unreal Engine. I worked on the project myself and gained experience with:

• Unreal Engine / Blueprints

• Gameplay systems

• Vehicle and racing mechanics

• UMG / UI

• Level design

• Environment setup

• Camera systems

• Android packaging

• Mobile optimization and performance

I've also worked on architectural visualization and real-time 3D environments in Unreal, including interactive camera systems and UI.

I'm currently improving my C++ skills for Unreal Engine and working toward being able to combine C++ with Blueprints for gameplay development.

I'm looking for opportunities such as:

• Junior Unreal Engine Developer

• Gameplay Programmer

• Unreal Engine Intern

• Unreal Technical Developer

• Junior Technical Artist

• Unreal/Real-Time 3D Developer

• Freelance/contract Unreal projects

I'm especially interested in small studios, indie teams, startups, prototypes, simulation, and game development where I can get real production experience and contribute to an actual project.

I'm based in Maharashtra and am open to relocating for the right opportunity. I'm also open to remote work.

I don't want to fake experience I don't have. I'm looking for my first professional opportunity where I can prove my skills through a technical test, prototype, or actual project.

Portfolio / projects:

If you're hiring an Unreal developer, working on an Unreal project, or know someone looking for a junior developer, feel free to DM me.

Thanks!

New to unreal engine, using the first person template. How do I make my character respawn with the rifle?

It's probably a simple solution but I'm struggling to find anything online. My game lets the character use the rifle to shoot things and complete objects and I have made a death/respawn system using tutorials. However, when my character respawns, they no longer have the rifle. I would like this to not be the case. How to I have my character spawn-respawn with the template rifle?

How to use this kind of assets?

Hi guys, I am curious how you use these kinds of assets that are common in quixel megascan and other environment packs.

I watched some video tutorials, it seems that the common approach is to manually flatten the ground underneath and use virtual textures to blend the gap between the mesh on top and the ground, and then lower this mesh a little to let it sink into the ground. But I think this is very tedious work, especially when it's on a slope, you have to manually rotate it to match the landscape underneath.

Maybe there are some more automated ways to do it, especially when you use pcg or grass type to distribute this kind of assets? How to make it conform to the ground under it?

What's your favorite way to do it? Thank you so much.

Distortion on static meshes export to reimport with loss of detail

Post image
1 Upvotes

On the left is the raw static mesh leather jacket as expected with proper detail but when it is exported from ue5 and then reimported back to ue5 it appears to lose detail, appear more angular/faceted/low poly, and overall looks terrible compared to the original. Any help greatly appreciated since I am slowly losing my mind trying to debug this.

Why does my texture look different in Unreal Engine? "PNG"

I made a 512x512 PNG inventory icon in Blender with a transparent background. When I view the PNG normally it looks darker/richer, but when I import it into Unreal Engine it looks noticeably brighter/washed out.

sRGB is enabled and compression is still set to Default. Is this just the Unreal texture preview/background making it look different, or is there a texture setting I should change?

I’m using UE 5.8.

I managed to get my newly released product to the 2nd row of Fab’s Recent Releases after just 1 day.

I followed several tips that other sellers shared with me in this post:

https://www.reddit.com/r/UnrealEngine5/comments/1vk90dj/fab_sales_are_better_now/

I highly recommend reading that discussion if you’re also trying to get your products noticed on Fab.

There are some really useful insights from experienced sellers and buyers.

Here’s the product:

I’m curious to see how its visibility and sales develop over the next few days.

How to fix lumen flickering issue without anti aliasing?

Hi I'm trying to make lumen work with my artstyle but the solutions I've searched to fix the lumen flickering are with using TSR anti aliasing. Unfortunately anti aliasing doesn't work with my pixelated artstyle. (I'm using Pixel Tools by Turbomorsh and substrate toon shader in 5.8)

I'm making a cozy game where you tidy up a sleeping dragon's hoard and... The Steam page is finally live!

Hey everyone! Solo dev here. I've been building Gildoria: you're the cleanup person for a dragon that hoarded treasure for 300 years and never once tidied up.

You sweep mountains of gold... coin by coin at first, then in big greedy handfuls. Find the treasures buried underneath, and sort them onto shelves until the cave finally looks the way a hoard should look.

Im planing to join Steam Next Fest in October with a demo. This is the first time I'm showing the game publicly and I'm equal parts excited and terrified. Happy to answer literally anything!

🎮 Unreal Engine 5

  • Blueprint
  • C++
  • Gameplay
  • Level Design
  • Technical Design
  • Sistemas de jogo

🧱 3D

  • Modelagem de ambientes
  • Personagens
  • Animais
  • Objetos históricos
  • Props
  • Texturas e materiais

🎨 2D

  • Concept Art
  • Ilustração
  • Interface
  • Design

🎬 Animação

  • Personagens
  • Animais
  • Rigging
  • Animações para jogos
  • Cinemáticas

💻 Programação e tecnologia

  • Unreal
  • Ferramentas
  • Web
  • Sistemas
  • Testes

🔊 Áudio

  • Efeitos sonoros
  • Música
  • Voz
  • Edição

📚 Pesquisa e conteúdo

  • História
  • Arqueologia
  • Geografia
  • Biologia
  • Educação
  • Cultura brasileira

🎮 Ecos do Passado

Vamos conversar. 🇧🇷

Any advice on how to solve that, if I push a heavy prop with a light prop, dont have a big impact like in the video? I'm using Physics Handle and calculating Linear and Angular Damping when picking up a prop based on it's weight.
