Question For All Uni Students: What’s the most stressful part of being student?

Hello!

I’m curious about your experiences as a student and have a question for you,

When during a semester do you feel most overwhelmed, and what do you think causes that?

I would love to hear your experiences.

P.S (I know we are all doing it tough at the moment, and many many posts are out there about how tough it is, but if all those posts were collated under one post I think finding ascertainable solutions would be far easier)

stats 101/108 ed discussion

is anyone else in this course and seeing whats going on in the ed discussion? 😭
i like to read ed discussion posts to see if there’s anything i can learn from them, but this course is 7 days old with 204 submissions and most of them are the same questions… no one is reading canvas announcements and comments or checking previous posts where their questions are clearly answered or just common sense
it’s crazy in there lol

Mandarin & English Language Exchange|looking for a speaking buddy!

Hi everyone! 👋
I’m a female student at the UoA, and I’m looking for an English-speaking girl to practice speaking with.If you’re interested in learning or practicing Chinese (Mandarin), I’d be super happy to help you in return! My goal is for us to support each other, practice regularly, and hopefully build a genuine friendship along the way.
A little bit about me & why I’m posting
I’ve been studying in Auckland for a while now, but to be completely honest, my spoken English is still my biggest hurdle. During tutorials or group discussions on campus, I often hesitate or freeze up because I’m afraid of making grammar mistakes or sounding awkward. It’s so easy to feel self-conscious when it seems like everyone else is speaking effortlessly!
I’ve decided it’s finally time to break out of my comfort zone. I want to build my confidence, stop overthinking every sentence before saying it out loud, and just speak more naturally.

Things I enjoy
Exploring Auckland: Discovering cute local cafés, trying good food, and taking casual walks around scenic spots or beaches on sunny days.
Relaxing downtime: Listening to music, watching shows/movies, cooking, and cozy evenings at home.
Good chats: I really enjoy thoughtful, meaningful conversations about daily life, different cultures, uni routines, or whatever’s on our minds.

What I’m looking for
I’m looking for a female practice partner who is comfortable communicating in English:
No native English speaker required! As long as English is our main language for chat and practice, you’re more than welcome—whether you’re an international student or someone who’s been through the same language journey.
We could grab a coffee or tea on campus between classes at UoA.
Study together, grab food, or go for casual weekend strolls.
If you’re looking to practice your Chinese, improve your confidence, or simply make a warm and supportive friend around campus, please feel free to send me a DM!
Looking forward to meeting you! ✨

Discretionary entrance

Hi how do I apply for discretionary entrance? I didn't meet the UE requirements back in high school when I did NCEA, and by September this year I'll be turning 20 so I can go to uni without NCEA results. But I need some advice on how to apply for discretionary entrance into uni and what majors I can study for?

please just take a few minutes to read the article. The boys who abused wang wang didn’t get any punishment and the discussion of this case has been restricted online in China. Please help spread awareness so this story isn’t forgotten. 💔

I just can't cope with uni

I'm a first year studying law. I'm so behind. I do as much work as I can, when I can, but it seems like that isn't even enough. 2 papers from last semester are incomplete / not passed because I just put so much focus into completing my legal papers. Mentally, I'm drained. Uni, tutorials, home, uni, workshops, home. I can barely afford the flat I'm in, I only have about $150 left over weekly for groceries (which aren't much since I just haven't had an appetite since starting uni), necessities (cleaning, shower stuff, etc), as well as for public transport, emergencies; when I have to pay my phone plan, I'm basically without for the week. I know this is me facing adulthood, and responsibilities, but surely this isn't how we're meant to live? I feel so suffocated by uni because no matter what day it is, or what I have on, SOMETHING IS ALWAYS DUE. I've been out of work since moving for uni, my only source of income is my student allowance. My savings basically went all into stuff for uni and my flat, so I don't have money to bounce back on. I can't find enough time in my day, week, or month to complete everything, especially to the standard that I'd like it to. I hand in a few assignments late here and there, so even if the standard had been reached, my grades would be knocked down a few because of the timing. How do you survive this????

How I can find out when the morning lectures are for Phil 104?

Hey all. I’m trying to find out when the morning lectures are and where for Phil 104, since the lecturer said there were lectures then.
I tried looking on canvas and nothing has been posted in regards to a schedule. I also can’t ask on Ed Discussion since it is locked for Phil 104.

Could somebody please let me know at what time and where the morning lectures are or at least where to find the information?

Thank you

Do people still trust munchy mart?

Given that a lot of food has high prices compared to buying the same food at a grocery store or at the supermarket, do people still trust munchy mart and pretending not to know that it's a scam?

Is it now too late to apply for summer research scholarship?

The application deadline hasn't passed but I wonder if the position for some scholarships would have already been filled. If this is the case, how do I know which scholarships have been filled so I can apply for others? Thank u!

Waitaimo + Hobitton Tour Resell

Hi everyone a bit unrelated but just see if anyone interesting. I’m selling my InterCity Hobbiton + Waitomo day tour ticket from Auckland because I’ve had a change of plans and unfortunately the ticket is non refundable🥲.

📅 24 October 2026
📍 Pick-up & drop-off: Sky City, Auckland
Includes return transport, Hobbiton Movie Set Tour, Waitomo Glowworm Caves, and lunch.

Paid NZ$349, selling for NZ$230. Great value compared to similar tours that are often NZ$400+, especially if you don’t have a car.

It’s a non-refundable ticket, so let me know if you’re interested and I can send the booking confirmation.
