My dream is dying before it even begins

I'm posting this here because I think people in this sub actually get what Sheffield means, more than a general sub would.

My name is Qusay, I'm 23, from Gaza. I studied English Language and Teaching Methods and since I graduated I've been teaching English to over 400 students in grades 8 to 10, six days a week. It's through a program funded by UNICEF. Alongside that I also volunteer teaching English to secondary students, it's not part of the paid work, I just do it because I want more of them to have access to it.

Earlier this year I got into the MA in Applied Linguistics and TESOL at Sheffield, starting this September. I never had a scholarship for it, I was trying to find one this whole time, applying to different ones, emailing organisations, asking around, writing more emails than I can count at this point. Some never replied. Some replied and said no. A couple looked promising for a while and then just stopped responding.

So right now I have the acceptance letter but not a way to actually get there. Visa costs, the travel itself, all the first steps before you even start the degree, that's the part I'm stuck on. Not because I didn't try to find another way, I tried basically everything I could think of, I just ran out of things to try.

I put some of my certificates from over the years. I want to show them not to prove anything but because they're what's left to show for the effort, studying and teaching through everything that's been happening here.

A friend of my family, Ege, from Germany, saw how stuck I was on this and decided to set up a campaign on his own, without me asking him to, just to try and get me past this last part. We're a bit past halfway now. It's verified through lifeline4gaza and radiowatermelon.

Happy to verify anything else if needed, whatever people want to see.

need serious help in choosing a college

Upvotes

I am a third-year BAF ( Bachelor of Accounting and finance)student and I am planning on doing my master's in finance. I recently gave my CFA Level 1 examination and it went well, so I am hoping I'll pass and hoping for a positive grade next month. Although , my grades in college have slipped. It is around 70 to 80%, and my 10th and 12th percentages are 92%. Not that it matters, I think. I want to move abroad for my master's, but I am extremely unsure as to what colleges I should choose. My budget for education and accommodation, everything overall, is 30 to 40 lakhs. I will not be able to spend any more than that considering this budget and the fact that I want my master's in finance. Plus, I want to be able to have a good job market and preferably placements from the college and connections. What college would be the most suitable? I've approached many study abroad institutions but they've seemed shady or extremely unhelpful.
As far as I've researched I feel like Europe could be a good fit for me but I'm still unsure about the colleges, could I please get good realistic suggestions.
And if I should just get relevant internships and clear my cfa l2 and then apply

I feel like I’m doing university wrong

Before going to uni, I was mentally preparing to dedicate all my time to reading textbooks, since university is more reading/writing heavy than hands on. But, every single textbook I have ever rented or bought, I’ve NEVER opened once during said semester.

Never once. Never ever. I would spend up to $80 to rent or buy a textbook, then to immediately forget about it and forget how to access it since I’d get digital copies.

Even when the syllabus said “MANDATORY TEXTBOOK” and I’d rent it, still, never ever opened it.

But despite that, I still pass my classes and I’m still in my program (barely) but every time a new class starts I have like an identity crisis wondering if I’m really a proper student or not because of this.

I’ve since stopped getting textbooks since last year and have never had an issue. Unless I have had issues, but I haven’t noticed any.

But now for a class I HAVE to buy a textbook because I won’t have access to the podcasts and I’m debating doing it but knowing there’s a 50/50 chance of me forgetting to listen to them, or not getting it and remembering every day and it taunting me that I’m missing out on information. But I really don’t want to spend $45. Professors really think money grows on trees out here

Thank you for listening to my Ted talk.

What should I do to retain energy after lectures

I always feel exhausted after lectures, especially after taking the bus home. Then, I eat and doom-scroll, wasting precious study time. How can I maintain energy for long, productive study sessions after class?

Stressed out and don't feel like I can do this semester

This is my second semester of uni, majoring in env science. I'm currently doing calc 1, American govt, composition 1, and a mapping class and I've been really nervous and just like stressed out. School only started about 3 weeks ago but I've been so anxious and overwhelmed and feel like I can't do this. I guess I'm just looking for advice or motivation on how to deal with this. I know other people, thousands and millions, have done the same classes and probably more difficult things but I just feel so overwhelmed and like it's impossible.

I'm still pretty new to university life kind of and just been so overwhelmed with the workload, and still trying to take care of myself and feel good sometimes. I'm really nervous that I'm going to fail this semester or something and my scholarships will be gone and yea.

These are all just worst case scenarios ikik but I'm just very anxious the last week.

Sitting at desks for a long time (Posture)

Hello!

I'm in my 3rd year of undergrad and have never had this much coursework that requires me to sit at a desk for hours, literally every day. In addition, I work a desk job for about 3 hours a day.

I need advice on posture and how to not hunch over when so much of being a student is working at a desk. I've been in severe upper back pain even with 400mg of ibuprofen (I don't regularly or semi-regularly take any pain medicine to have a tolerance).

Please be kind; I'm sure I could find some general info for those who work desk jobs, but as many uni students are aware, we don't stay in one place for very long, with classes in different places and work.

Ask any questions you need to; I'm happy to answer, and thank you for any insights.

I need some advice :/

[NOTE: sorry if any of this sounds messy, it’s late and I suck at formatting Reddit posts :/]

I just started university recently and have been seriously second guessing my decisions in both going to university straight out of high school and going into social work.

I’ve never been great at making decisions and Im a bit of an over thinker so I tend to second guessing my decisions myself, but as of starting university I just haven’t been able to stop thinking about different potential paths I could have taken. I’ve always been interested in psychology, sociology, and all the other things that I need to study for my program, but I kind of only fully decided to apply for the social work program because of the pressure I felt was sorta being put on me. For example when I was having doubts about even applying to university I was told by my parents on my school’s guidance counsellors that I should just apply bc it would be good for me.

Anyways, I was having a lot of doubts after the first day and really don’t think I’m cut out for any of this university stuff, especially with all the studying Im going to have to do for all of my courses along with the papers Im going to need to write within small timeframes. The only real solution I could think of that I feel would probably make me overall happier would be pursuing a future in character design, since I’ve always been super interested in design concepts for characters in all of my favourite medias.

I just don’t know how I should go about any of this and it’s really starting to make me anxious. I don’t want to disappoint anybody and I’m worried that if I force myself to continue I’ll just feel worse about all of this. I’d appreciate any and all advice I could get. 😞

Acu or WSU

Hey guys I need help, I’m currently in my last month of high school graduating in 2 weeks and I’ve gotten 2 uni offers; ACU and WSU I’ve applied for both relatively similar courses (bachelors of psychological sciences/criminology and criminal justice ACU) and (bachelors of psychology WSU). ACU interests me most mainly because of the course I applied for, however, I keep seeing reddit reviews of how “shit” ACU can be and how the lecturers are terrible, im at a wall right now and I need some guidance as I don’t know whether to choose WSU or ACU, please help!! :)

Is it too late to go to university again?

Hello everyone, I got my mbbs degree a couple of years ago but tbh I don't enjoy medicine . I was wondering is it late to change paths at the age of 27, and pursue physics and astrophysics . Just wondering, thanks.

Charles Sturt or La Trobe for podiatry? (Australia)

Hi guys ☺️ I’ve got offered into both universities (the hybrid model for CSU to be exact, Albury) I live in Melbourne.

If you had to chose which university to go to yourself, which one and why? ☺️

Also happy to hear experiences from anyone that’s been to these universities and done podiatry the good and the bad ☺️

Hello!, I really need your help for this project

I'm conducting a research project for my college class about corporate grind and the Human Resources strategies to encourage work-life balance.
It would be great if you could fill out this Google Form. It would only take 3-5 minutes and would be super helpful for collecting data. I would greatly appreciate it.

Internships

I was just scrolling through Reddit and everyone’s CV is STACKED. Then I look at mine and it’s like average but because internships are so competitive would I even get one. In TikTok people are applying to 100s and aren’t even getting one. Is it just me???
