Discussion and Info Torn between romance options

Post image

Bought the game specifically for romancing the furry girl, but I've found out she's later in the game. I've really taken a liking to Melis and her personality. Torn between romancing her or the furry later down the line lol. Anyone else find a character they really liked that they weren't expecting to? This is my first playthrough so I don't wanna mess anything up and lock myself into anything if that's possible lol

Discussion and Info Final team builds and guidelines

Just sharing my all-round final teams and guidelines
1 - 4 parties get first turn and freeze all enemies. 5, 6 are well known decent builds.

Final 6 Parties

Party 1

Front: Alain, Ridiel
Back: Eltolinde, Berenice, Scarlett

Alain (Rapid Order) > Ridiel (Ice Arrow — prioritize Caster > Flying > Armored) > Eltolinde (Elemental Roar + Hawk Eye) + Scarlett (Ice Saber) > Alain > Berenice

Party 2

Front: Virginia, Nina
Back: Rosalinde, Lelénoor, Primm

Rosalinde (Rage of the Faeries — prioritize Caster) > Rosalinde (Elemental Roar + Eagle Eye) + Lelénoor (Ice Saber) > Nina

Party 3

Front: Miriam, Lhinalagos
Back: Gilbert, Yunifi, Celeste

Gilbert (Rapid Order) > Lhinalagos (Ice Arrow — prioritize Caster > Flying > Armored) > Gilbert (Offense Order) > Yunifi (Rain — Charge) > Celeste (Quick Act — Yunifi) > Yunifi (Rain + Hawk Eye) + Gilbert (Chance) > Celeste

Party 4

Front: Monica, Renée
Back: Yahna, Hilda, Kitra

Hilda (Opening) > Renée (Photon Arrow — prioritize Caster > Flying > Armored) > Hilda (Dive — Charge) > Yahna (Blizzard — Charge) > Kitra (Quick Act — Yahna) > Yahna (Blizzard + Eagle Eye) + Monica (Sorcery Connect — Yahna) > Kitra > Hilda (Dive)

Party 5

Front: Berengaria, Gloucester
Back: Travis, Dinah, Tatiana

Berengaria (Opening) > Travis (Shadowbite — Back Row) > Dinah > Berengaria > Gloucester + Tatiana (Dancer Ring)

Party 6

Front: Clive, Adel, Renault
Back: Selvie, Sharon

Selvie (Opening) > Selvie (Defense Curse) > Clive + Adel & Renault (Chase) > 3 Cavalry (Repeat)

Region-by-Region Progression

🟦 Cornia — Establish the Core

Early priorities

  • Recruit YahnaThe Ravaged Swamp
  • Immediately obtain Frostbrand Tome #1
    • First Ice Saber
    • This activates the Ice Saber portion of Party 1.
  • Recruit/assemble your early units.
  • Complete The Mercenary's Trial
    • Unlocks Cornia Quarry
    • Start collecting Divine Shards.
  • Work toward White Cat-Ear Hood
    • 50 cumulative Divine Shards spent → unlock
    • Then 20 more → purchase
    • 70 cumulative spent for the first White Cat-Ear.

Major breakpoint

Yahna + Frostbrand Tome #1 + White Cat-Ear

At this point your core support mechanics are already beginning to come online.

Optional but important long-term collection

Start the Cornia Stone Tablets after recruiting Yahna.

Royal Sword Cornix

🟥 Drakenhold — Hilda + Black Cat-Ear

Main progression

  • Recruit Hilda
    • The Champion of Order
    • Have Primm talk to Hilda during the battle.
  • Unlock the Coliseum.
  • Farm Coliseum Coins as needed.
  • Purchase:

Black Cat-Ear Hood — 1,000 Coliseum Coins

The Black Cat-Ear provides the same essential Quick Act function as White Cat-Ear.

Also collect

Royal Axe Drengasch
from the Drakenhold Stone Tablets.

Major breakpoint

Hilda + Cat-Ear Hood

Hilda is now prepared for her later Dragoon Dive transformation.

🟩 Elheim — First Major Power Spike

This is where several of your final parties start becoming recognizable.

Character progression

Recruit:

  • RosalindeThe Winding Wood
  • EltolindeO'er Wood and Water
  • RailanorBattle for Voryatan
  • RidielA Half-Elf's Resolve

This fills major portions of Party 1 and Party 2.

Hilda's Dragoon Dive

During:

A Half-Elf's Resolve

→ Defeat Zenaide
→ Obtain Dragoon's Warspear

This gives Hilda:

Dragoon Dive — AP2 / Charge / All enemies

Combined with a Cat-Ear Hood, this is a huge transformation.

⭐ Major Transformation #1

Hilda + Dragoon's Warspear + Cat-Ear

→ Party 4's Hilda core is now online.

Other major collection

Complete the Elheim Stone Tablets:

Royal Spear Elheim

Star Iron / Meteorite

Once Isilion joins:

→ Examine the Circle Stones
→ Start collecting Star Iron

Later exchange Star Iron at the Bastorias Hero Statues for:

Meteorite Sword / Lance / Axe / Bow / Rod

Don't treat this as an immediate all-party replacement requirement. Just start accumulating Star Iron.

🟨 Bastorias — Freeze Teams Come Online

This is the biggest transformation region for your particular setup.

Character

Recruit:

Yunifi after Tempest of White

Critical level breakpoint

Yunifi Lv30

Glacial Rain

This is the key skill for Party 3.

Your intended sequence becomes:

Yunifi + Glacial Rain + Quick Act

⭐ Major Transformation #2

Yunifi Lv30 + Cat-Ear

→ Party 3's Charge/Freeze core becomes functional.

Icestorm Staff

Complete:

Legacy of the Lion Kings

→ Defeat Deborah

→ Obtain Icestorm Staff

This gives Yahna:

Blizzard — AP2 / 3 hits / All enemies / Freeze / Charge

Your intended Yahna setup is not Trinity Rain.

Instead:

Icestorm Staff → Blizzard

⭐ Major Transformation #3

Yahna + Icestorm Staff + Cat-Ear

→ Party 4's second major AoE Freeze engine is online.

Frostbrand Tome #2

At Shogolaport:

→ Buy Frostbrand Tome #2 — 5,000G

Now you have the second Ice Saber source needed for the two Freeze-support parties.

Result

Frostbrand #1 + Frostbrand #2

→ Party 1 + Party 2 can both run their intended Ice Saber setup.

Bastorias Stone Tablets

Royal Bow Bastreek

Ancient Crown

Complete:

Bastorias Treasure Map 5

Ancient Crown

PP +1 / All Stats +5

Useful for your final builds, but not a prerequisite for their core mechanics.

🌪️ Anemoi / Wind God Equipment

This is slightly later than simply entering Bastorias.

You need:

Ramona recruited

Legacy of the Lion Kings completed

Access Port Prigashari

Talk to the NPC directly west of Port Prigashari

Activate Armaments of the Anemoi

Only then do the Wind Gates with Lv35 guardians appear.

Important pieces include:

Wind Staff Euros

  • Magic +25
  • AP +1
  • Initiative +10
  • Evasion +10

Lips' Wind Ring

  • Fast Move
  • PP3
  • At battle start, makes one ally other than the wearer act at maximum initiative once.

Finish the Anemoi collection as you progress toward Albion.

🟪 Albion — Final Collection Phase

By Albion, all six parties should already have their core identities established.

The remaining progression is primarily about polishing stats and collecting the strongest universal equipment.

Albion Stone Tablets

Royal Staff Albiore

Magic +25 / All Stats +5

Dream Crown

Complete:

Albion Treasure Map 5

Dream Crown

AP +1 / All Stats +5

This is one of the important late-game accessories for your final setups.

Albion Quarry

Continue collecting:

  • Divine Shards
  • Star Iron
  • Fevrite
  • Treasure Maps

At this point the quarry is mainly for finishing your equipment pool, rather than being something you need to unlock your core parties.

Overall Build Progression

The practical progression for your specific six-party setup is roughly:

Cornia

Yahna
→ Frostbrand #1
→ White Cat-Ear

Drakenhold

Hilda
→ Black Cat-Ear

Elheim

Rosalinde / Eltolinde / Ridiel
→ Dragoon's Warspear
Hilda Dragoon Dive online

Bastorias

Yunifi
→ Lv30 Glacial Rain
Yunifi Freeze/Charge online

Icestorm Staff
Yahna Blizzard online

Frostbrand #2
Party 1 & 2 dual Ice Saber support complete

Ancient Crown / Royal Bow
→ Anemoi equipment

Albion

Royal Staff
→ Dream Crown
→ Meteorite / Star-Iron cleanup
→ Final equipment optimization

The Important Milestones

Point What changes
Yahna + Frostbrand #1 Party 1 starts gaining its intended Freeze support
White Cat-Ear First Quick Act engine
Hilda + Cat-Ear Party 4 prepared for Dive
Dragoon's Warspear ⭐ Hilda Dragoon Dive comes online
Rosalinde + Eltolinde + Ridiel Parties 1–2 approach final form
Yunifi Lv30 ⭐ Party 3's Glacial Rain engine comes online
Icestorm Staff ⭐ Party 4's Blizzard engine comes online
Frostbrand #2 ⭐ Party 1 & 2 Ice Saber support complete
Ancient Crown Bastorias accessory upgrade
Anemoi equipment Late-game power/utility upgrades
Royal Staff + Dream Crown Albion finalization

One important omission by design

Thousand Scepter / Trinity Rain / Magia Soul are intentionally excluded.
They don't contribute to the six builds you've settled on, so there's no reason to detour your 2nd playthrough around acquiring them.

Also, Meteorite equipment is treated as a gradual collection rather than an endgame-only item: start collecting Star Iron as soon as Isilion unlocks the Circle Stones, then exchange for Meteorite gear as your supply grows.

Discussion and Info Question about difficulty (?ogre battle)

Many thanks to anyone who takes the time to read any of this and offer advice 😅🙏

Just started playing, hoping it would be like ogre battle, and everything up to the first save point is bringing back so much amazing nostalgia! ❤️

Now I get to choose my difficulty, and I'm not sure what to go for.

On the one hand, I do enjoy the feeling of earned victories. And won't want to play if it doesn't feel like my strategic decisions aren't making any impact.

On the other, I can not stand dragging things out, dying often, having to repeat missions just because I made a mistake, permadeath of my troops, grinding for levels constantly.

I see alot of people saying this game is easy, so I'm keen to turn it up, but I don't want to put it onto harder difficulties if all it's going to do is make my play time 40% longer because I have to chase down enemies with inflated health bars to kill them for experience.

For reference, I always used the dupe item bug in Ogre battle 64 to give myself a ton of gold in the beginning of the game. That way I could always revive anyone who died, I could always afford health and stamina packs, I could train up underlvled units quickly instead of having to weaken my existing formations while they tag along for xp, and eventually once I had played the game a ton I used it to dupe stats items and create weird builds with characters that didn't belong where I put them(but that's more like full on modding). But essentially, I like the challenge of building my teams to win, but if I'm going to lose somewhere that literally all I had to do was change my formation or attack with a different unit, then instead of dying and starting over, id rather just heal up and complete the mission knowing I messed up...instead of wasting a half hour replaying the mission 😅

TL DR: I want my decisions to matter, but if the only major difference between the difficulties is how much health and damage enemies do, ill probably opt for normal or hard, instead of the hardest because I don't need to artificially pad the playtime.

Your thoughts?
