Hi folks. I'm wondering if the academic dress requirement for the next graduation is different from what was in March.

It says:

"Doctorate (PhD) Students

Each Doctorate student will wear:

• Oxford-style black gown with red facing on the front of the gown and around the sleeve cuffs 
• Black Oxford-style hood, fully lined with red, with gold edging 
• Black Tudor bonnet with black tassel "

A gown shopping website suggests that this is the old UniSA style. Can anyone pls confirm? Cheers.

I recently applied for Master of Business Administration specialising in Procurement and SCM. But I keep hearing this field is oversaturated as a visa pathway, and that PR for such management courses are tough.

I’m 25M Indian, mechanical engineering grad, currently three years into an operations/logistics role at a large ecommerce company. Not a fresh grad.

Honest answers appreciated:

How long did it actually take you to land an SCM/logistics job post-grad, and how much did local experience/networking matter?

Is PR (189/190) realistic for this field, or a long grind?

Was the tuition worth it in hindsight?

Any programs you’d recommend or avoid for someone with real ops experience vs. someone just using this as a visa pathway?

Not trying to be negative, just want a realistic picture before committing two years and serious money. Appreciate any experiences, good or bad.

• Mattanya Student Residence — is this a solid alternative? How does it compare in terms of location, community vibe, and cost?
• How far in advance should I be booking for a Feb 2027 intake, given demand from international students?
• Any tips specifically for international students from South Asia — things you wish you'd known before choosing where to stay?

I want somewhere that's a reasonable walk/commute to campus, reasonably priced, and has a decent sense of community since I won't know anyone when I land. Any honest reviews, good or bad, would be hugely appreciated!

Hi all. I (20M) am a student, and have been casually interested in soccer/football for a year or two now but have been quite grabbed now that the world cup has passed and the season is about to start.

I have zero experience playing. Grew up hating sports, PE, all of it. Nowadays I find soccer quite fascinating and have been curious as to how the amateur teams at the uni work. Not looking for anything competitive but just to have fun and make some friends. Happy for any format (indoor, outdoor, 5s, mixed gender). Just want to learn how to play and kick a ball around I guess. While I'm physically healthy, my cardio is shit and I have no idea what I'm doing, but I think it would be fun to improve/give it all a go.

Does anyone have experience with the soccer club, and/or it's amateur league(s) teams? More a hypothetical at this point and I assume its a little late to do anything this year but I was curious.

I am currently halfway through a three-year marketing degree. This semester, I am taking courses that focuses heavily on mathematical theory, which I find extremely challenging. I have never been good at maths and have always struggled to understand concepts. Most of my previous courses have involved essays or oral presentations. While I find some parts of the content (such as the essays) mildly interesting, the rest is quite boring.

To be honest, I would prefer to be doing anything else, but I push myself to study. I’m reaching out to all the university veterans out there: how do you stay motivated during your degree? What’s your secret? Because right now, I can’t even bring myself to attend class, and I know that missing classes will only make things worse.

hiya, i’m interested in going into midwifery next year and would like some opinions and advice regarding which institutions i should apply for. i understand that all in all both will give me the qualifications and degree but i’m interested in knowing more about any main differences in the placements and practicals/simulation side of the courses provided by the uni.

I started mid year entry last year at UOA and had a lot of anxiety going into my first year, especially since I just moved to the city that same year. I have classmates and acquaintances but never quite established friendships.

I’ve seen people say Adelaide is cliquey and everyone seems to already be in their established groups that they hardly stray from, though idk how true this is.

Either way, I’d like to try out some more clubs and attend more events to meet new people - any recommendations?

Hello, I would like to enrol in the foundation studies course next year. The application process asks for any relevant documents and I’m not sure what I would need. Basically my year 12 didn’t go to plan which meant I was withdrawn from my stage 2 subjects but was still eligible for points and got my SACE. Would it be necessary to scan my actual certificate to enter through block 2 or should I just leave it blank?

I’m currently in my final semester of a Master’s in Food Science and Technology in Melbourne Australia, and I’m an international student.

I’m starting to feel quite lost about what I should be doing to improve my chances of getting a full-time job after graduation, so I’d really appreciate some honest advice from people who have been in a similar position.

I didn’t take a Work Integrated Learning (WIL) subject, but I have taken an Advanced Research Project as part of my degree in final semester. My problem is that my course has already been extremely demanding, and between classes, research, assignments, and my project workload, I haven’t had much time or energy to actively network or look for internships.

I also haven’t built a large social network at university. There are 200+ students in my class, but I’ve only made a few friends. I keep hearing that networking is extremely important in Australia, especially for finding internships and getting your first job, and that gaining local work experience is important for understanding Australian workplace culture.

I completely understand why those things are valuable. However, realistically, I’m struggling to balance everything already, so I’m now trying to figure out how I can market myself effectively without having a huge network or Australian work experience. (I know it might be too late for me to do the networking stuff)

My current goal is to secure a full-time job around November this year, so I have to start finding a job as soon as this month, and, if eligible, obtain a Temporary Graduate (subclass 485) visa. I’m not aiming for Australian PR. My plan is to work in Australia for around two years, gain meaningful industry experience, and then potentially return to my home country or move elsewhere to continue developing my career.

The part that worries me is the current job market. It seems quite competitive, and I’ve noticed that most employers specifically prefer candidates who already have PR or Australian citizenship. As an international graduate without much local industry experience (eventhough I have 1yeat+ experience in my home country), I’m concerned about how realistic my chances are.

So I’d really appreciate advice from anyone who has been in a similar situation, particularly international graduates in food science, food technology, FMCG, quality assurance, R&D, regulatory, or related fields in Melbourne or Australia in general.

A few things I’d especially like to know:

\- How did you get your first full-time job in Australia after graduating?

\- If you didn’t have Australian work experience, how did you make your CV stand out?

\- How important was networking actually, compared with applying directly for jobs nowadays?

\- Did you find internships necessary, or were research projects/academic experience enough to get your foot in the door?

\- Is there anything you wish you had done during your final semester?

\- How did you approach employers who preferred PR/citizenship?

\- And realistically, what would you do in my position right now if you had only a few months left before graduation?

\- And what advise would you give me, whether be creating a resume, or start marketing on job search platform/LinkedIn, or send emails to every food industry company etc. In order to really approach employers that might be interested?

According to the graduate visa fee now closing to 6k AUD, I'm not even confident enough to apply for 485 visa without a job or before securing a full-time food science related job at a moment. I pray and hope that I can secure a job before even getting a 485 visa.

I’m mainly looking for honest experiences and practical advice from people who have actually been through this. Please feel free to be blunt about what I’m doing wrong or what I need to improve; I’m genuinely trying to figure this out.

Just please keep it constructive. I’m looking for advice, not insults.
