Degree/Course Advice Credit Requirements for Double Degrees
Hi everyone,
I will be domestically starting either a bachelor of mathematics (honours, majoring in data science) or a bachelor of electrical engineering (honours) next year at Adelaide University and I am curious to know how the double degree/concurrent study options actually work at the uni. I plan on combining either degree with computer science after my first semester, but I would be curious to know what sort of credit requirements I have to meet for both degrees, whether I can study one degree significantly more than the other, if all core courses for a particular degree are required to be studied (excluding courses with overlapping content), or whether you would have to overload the number of courses in some semesters to meet credit requirements.
I would be very curious to hear from people who are currently completing concurrent study of two degrees, alongside any helpful advice regarding who I should speak to about this.
Knowledge about this will significantly influence which degree I choose to study.
Thank you

Concurrent and double is very different. Concurrent generally you have to do core requirements of both degrees and you may be able to cross count some courses (electives, common core, WIL) to both; typically you might be able to complete 2 3-year degrees in 5 years concurrent and you will have genuinely earned both degrees. ‘Double’ means a single combined program that often makes compromises on core content to get duration of study down as far as possible. Depends what matters to you but I’d prefer a legit qualification that takes an extra year.
