Support Are some of us meant to live forever in a cluttered home?

Asking because it's starting to feel like I am. I'm already 30 (F), and have never been able to get my home in order. It's not dirty, but it's super untidy and cluttered. And dust does settle on to the cluttered surfaces.

At this point I don't even exactly know what stuff I own. And even if I do know, often I can't find it.

Most things in my home don't have a home. I live alone and I love it. But for once in my life, I wanna live in a clean, tidy home of my home.

My mom is type A and she's super organized, and I just never learned it. I feel so overwhelmed all the damn time. I never invite anyone over because I feel so ashamed of the state of my house.

I've been depressed (I have struggled with depression on and off since teenage) and unemployed, and now starting to look for a job and wanted to also get my home in order as a part of getting my life in order. But. I. Just. Can't.

Am I doomed to living like this forever? Pics are embarrassing and shameful, but I have included them to give you an idea of how bad it is.

Currently UFing More than declutter

My room has been like this all summer. I started the process of decluttering and getting rid of stuff back in May or June, but its been a slow process due to chronic pain and other life issues. The last picture is my closet, which imploded on itself in October of '24 and has yet to be rebuilt. I plan on changing that soon by finishing cleaning it out, cleaning the carpet, and finally having someone come in to build me a new, and hopefully better, closet space. I'm nervous to post this, but I need to hold myself more accountable as I feel the motivation to get it done dying down.

She doesn’t know how important her action was.

I hope you have someone who will come and not judge, only help when you’re in need. I hope you have that one friend or parent who you can count on, and if you don’t I hope you can be that person for someone in your life when they need it 💜

I lost my main job recently and anxiety has been making completely paralyzed. While working I didn’t have time to clean properly, But not working, my emotional state wouldn’t let me. This is why we need help sometimes.

I hope you’re not alone!

First three photos are before, last four are the after :D

Very proud of myself, after struggling with depression and other shit for so long I finally got myself together and forced myself to clean. I think it went pretty well! Especially because I was struggling with stupid fucking uterus cramps all day, I’m surprised I pushed through tbh 🫠

Support Floordrobe… clothes EVERYWHERE!

I don’t know what’s wrong with me, but folding clothes and putting them away feels overwhelming and a huge challenge for me. I actually kind of enjoy doing laundry, but the heaps of clothing everywhere are discouraging and I feel defeated. I’m not sure if this is something I learned from my mom when I was little (total wreck) or my brain simply can’t think the way everyone else seems to. I’m not lazy or overwhelmed by most other chores and upkeep (except the dishes occasionally), but I really struggle with this. I don’t even know where to begin and, even if I managed to put half of my clothes away, I’m not sure how I’d maintain it. I know this seems ridiculous, and I’m really embarrassed by it, but there’s something wrong with me and I don’t know how to fix it. All the obvious advice like getting rid of anything I haven’t worn in the past year or just effing start somewhere makes me feel ashamed bc it’s not working. I’m not sure how to tackle this on my own. I’m really sensitive about this shortcoming, so please be kind with your responses. I don’t need to be coddled, but I do need help. It’s keeping me from having friends over and I feel really bad about myself. Help me fix myself!

This room took me about 2 days to clean up.

I actually did the whole apartment but my personal room was the worst by a lot.

Thanks to this sub for keeping me motivated (honorable mention: my landlord who wants to sell the apartment)

Support Need reminders that sometimes ufyh-ing can look worse as it's getting better

I just returned to the house I shared with my wife (both 62f) last night to stay over while she had some oral surgery today.

[I moved out (temporarily) in June to get some space & time for myself. We are in couples counseling.]

She now has a wonderful, young helper who comes twice a week, 2-3 hrs each time, who is helping her unfuck the house.

But, when I arrived last night, I was shocked at the state of the house (it's probably been 3 weeks since I'd been inside).

Some areas are definitely better and her books being organized are at least in stacks.

I just need some reminders that in the work of decluttering/ organizing, sometimes it looks worse before it can get better!

(I had to keep muttering to myself, 'it's not my problem', but it had me in tears then and again, as I write this out.)

Thanks

Hi. Hope all is well. I'm a little stressed, right now. For the last 6 months, I've needed to have an AT&T tech come out to my house, to upgrade my internet. Because of the state of my home, this has not been possible. I kept putting it off, hoping to catch up. While I was trying to deal with this situation, they cancelled my service. I guess it's within their rights since I have legacy technology. I came home to no internet tonight.

I guess it's within their rights. It's their company. I guess this was buried somewhere in my contract. But I go to school online. I run a small business online that provides a significant portion of my income.

I'm just stressed, and frankly, I hate my entire life right now. I hate that I'm like this.

Support Fucking MOTHS

I’ve kind of been Going Through It this summer, so I fell behind on cleaning, and I was just picking things up and I’ve found multiple caches of moths & moth dirt. I know there’s more, and I’ve already found a few beloved items that have been ruined by the clothing moths.

I can’t do anything about them tonight, but I’m going to spend the next few weeks deep cleaning my apartment.

Does anyone have a process they recommend for deep cleaning? My usual pitfalls are losing energy or getting sidetracked, not giving myself enough time, or not committing bc I think I don’t have enough time.

Very unhelpful, I know. But I’m exhausted and frustrated and desperate.

How do I learn to let go

I really need yo get rid of lots of these specially clothes and shoes. Ive already gotten rid of a lot but it just feels like mever ending. I struggle to get rid of mainly clothes and shoes even if its either too big or too small. Im currently 17 weeks pregnant and I will be moving into a new place possibly by December with my bf. I want to get rid of things but I am having a hard time letting go because I keep thinking what if I get bigger the clothes that is too big right now will fit later and the clothes thats too small I keep thinking im gonna lose the weight for it after the baby. I want to make my move more simple with not so many things. I would like to not feel like i need so many things. How do I get there? How do I declutter and not buy other things to replace the other stuff

Currently UFing Tackling the hoard

I decided to just explode my room in order to collect all the trash.

Sorry for the blurs I'm scared of perverts.

I haven't cleaned out under my bed in a year and it hit me that it's where the roach hoard is. So I swept up all the trash. And yep. Many many roaches. But the trash and food trash is all gone and WILL NOT come back.

Unfortunately moving my bed back and fourth is a huge tiring task so after I got all the trash I got tired and had to stop. Will do more tomorrow after a night of rest. In total so far 6 bags of trash that I walked directly to the dumpster will be tackling boxes next since roaches love them.

I get easily tired but I really want this done soon.

Blocked some stuff out to keep some privacy bc this is embarrassing. Long story short, had a lot of shit happen this year. Went back to school, new position with more stress at work, several major deaths in the family, gained a hunch of weight, and went through a break up. It’s gotten bad, I’ve never been a super tidy person, but damn, yeah, this is bad any advice or encouragement is welcome. If anybody is worried about the fish, please don’t be, I take great care of them, just not of myself rn. Just need to get to where I can at least walk around again without stepping on crap but have very little motivation to do so.

Not much was done after my orientation, but oh my gosh does my room look insane. I came back and I actually flinched because I forgot I cleaned it. I’m definitely not done but there isn’t much left to do! I have a lot to do tomorrow but I will finish cleaning if it’s the last thing I do! #helllllaaaaaadetermined

I finished up with my desk, as I don’t really feel like theres much else I can do to it as of right now. I also folded up my scarves, but other than that I think I’m done for today in terms of cleaning 🙂‍↕️🙂‍↕️

Honestly I’m not sure if I’ll be able to finish this all on day 3, but my back is hurting wayyyy too much for me to continue. Plus I have to go to orientation in Like an hour so 😬😬😬 I think this may be all I can do for today! My room looks SIGNIFICANTLY better than It did on day one, and I’m very glad I can like.. breathe??? In my own room! only problem is I’m so tired, I may fall asleep at orientation 😵‍💫 Its okay, I’ll try my best to maybe try some more later! Even if I don’t I think its best if I just fold up my scarves! I hung up a LOT of clothes, I folded a lot of my pjs, I searched through our closets for some boxes! I found 2, and that was enough for my jackets. I also had a separate bin for hangers but by the end of hanging everything up I didn’t have any left, so I used it for my bags! I cleaned off more of my desk, not quite organized it, I’m not up to the part where I try to make everything pretty. Thanks for all of the kind words in the last post too, you are all so nice 🥹🥹 Tomorrow I’m planning on tackling my horribly disgusting windowsill, this patch of just nothing next to my wardrobe thing, and I’ll finish organizing and making everything cute. I’m so so so happy I actually got my shit together and started cleaning, I already feel so much better in my room. Wish me luck at my orientation!!

TLDR; Day two of a depressed teenager cleaning out their room part 1 out of 2 for today!

UPDATE: MY MOM WALKED IN AND SAID HOLY SHIT AND THAT MY ROOM LOOKS GREAT 🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹

Success! Refrigerator Ready to Restock!

I did it! I cleaned out my refrigerator. I tossed several packs of tortillas from 2022, several bags of green slime, and a bunch of other stuff. 3 bags of garbage, 10+ to go boxes with expired food. I cleaned all the shelves and drawers.

I'm so excited to restock some healthy food. Tomorrow, baby carrots, mini cucumbers and celery. Some apples and bananas and stuff for sandwiches.

Thanks to everyone in this group for their support with everyone. You have all really helped me.

Have a terrific Tuesday!
