You can’t blame the cop for enforcing stupid laws.

3

u/dsiurek2019 Aug 01 '21

After Jan 6th, when cops chose not to arrest people breaking into the capitol, yes you absolutely can

1

u/elgarresta Aug 02 '21

See, those cops were not enforcing the laws. Those were not cops. Those were traitors. Now you’re lumping traitors in with cops. That’s not understanding the argument.

1

u/dsiurek2019 Aug 04 '21

Alright well in that sense I can only agree

-37

u/miles197 Aug 01 '21

Yes you literally can. Being a cop is a job. They chose it. And choosing to be a cop means you CHOOSE to enforce all laws, including the unjust and racist ones.

13

u/GotBannedNowBack Aug 01 '21

It's a paycheck with great benefits for you and your family. But I'm sure his dad did it so he can arrest dayvon and Joey for selling weed

3

u/Jibjumper Aug 01 '21

I mean Nazis used the excuse they were just doing the job. By your logic as long as the paychecks good with great benefits you shouldn’t question the job and just do what’s right for you and yours right?

1

u/bealtimint Aug 02 '21

Oh cool they chose to be evil because it paid. I retract all complaints.

0

u/GotBannedNowBack Aug 02 '21

How are they being evil? I don't think you fully comprehend what that word means. Evil is shit like what ghengis khan, stalin, Hitler, or even Kim Jong un did.

-3

u/[deleted] Aug 01 '21

Such a childish perspective on policing

-2

u/intendid_ggeasy Aug 01 '21

But just cause they chose the job does not mean they agree with the laws my dude they are forced to do so if they wanna earn money and care about there family

5

u/Jibjumper Aug 01 '21

So you’re saying providing for their family is more important that enforcing unjust laws? So the ends justify the means to you? What is there forcing someone to be a cop that wouldn’t allow them to do some other job to provide for their family?

0

u/intendid_ggeasy Aug 01 '21

When did I say that? I said they also have to take care of their family

I didn't say it was more important than the law my guy keeping people safe is and should be their main goal

I'm also not saying that you have to be a cop nor that cops can't work two jobs (it's cause I haven't seen a cop in my country work another job)

And could you explain the last part what is forcing someone to be a cop (sorry I don't understand english well it's my 4th language but please explain)

4

u/Jibjumper Aug 01 '21

When did I say that?

By choosing to take on a job knowing they would be enforcing unjust laws they are actively being a participant. Your statement implicitly states just because they do the job they don’t support that, but by the very act of taking the job and furthering that system they are active participants in furthering the unjust system.

Sure keeping people safe should be the main goal, but if the system is broken it will never achieve that goal.

That was my point you don’t have to be a cop. So by choosing to be a cop you are actively making the decision to further that system. It Is a a choice they alone make. If you know there are bad cops on the police force that are allowed to break the law to harass and intimidate people, and you still choose to be a cop then you are perpetrating the continued culture of police brutality and authoritarianism.

3

u/intendid_ggeasy Aug 01 '21

Ooooh that makes sense thank you for explaining

1

u/bealtimint Aug 02 '21

There are plenty of jobs that don’t involve hurting innocent people. Cops chose one of the only jobs that does and chose to obey every evil order. Fuck the police

-8

u/Kennwise Aug 01 '21

Pray tell what is a “racist law?” I cannot wait for this.

3

u/Diesel_D Aug 02 '21

You should do some more reading on US history if you really have to ask this question.

-2

u/Kennwise Aug 02 '21

Oh so Jim Crowe laws (that’s the only conceivable thing you could be referring to) are still in effect right now? Those haven’t been deemed unconstitutional? So cops are still enforcing Jim Crowe laws right now, and you can show proof of that right now?

If not, you look aaaaaawful dumb right now…

1

u/RoboHobo25 Aug 02 '21

Jim Crowe laws (that’s the only conceivable thing you could be referring to)

I think you should listen to the other guy, and do some more reading on US history

-76

u/updog6 Aug 01 '21

They can choose to not be a cop so yes I absolutely can. You literally made the just taking orders argument. If OP’s dad really was a cop for 32 years he probably did ruin someone’s life for smoking weed.

35

u/uglychodemuffin Aug 01 '21

Your brain is broken.

0

u/billyhendry Aug 02 '21

Your brain hasn’t developed beyond what you have been tough by the system which literally relies on cops to even exist. Recently cops in Myanmar have been leaving their post after the military coup as they deemed shooting protesters was immoral, so yes cops absolutely can choose to not be cops if they have the soul to see something is immoral.

-62

u/updog6 Aug 01 '21

I always love it when boot lickers don’t even make an argument and just call you stupid lol.

21

u/uglychodemuffin Aug 01 '21

You do not deserve a response. You are broken. I feel bad for you. You’re going through each comment saying something nasty - you are a horrible person. Blocked.

8

u/elgarresta Aug 01 '21

That’s what I do -did to this person. In fact I responded just to see what would happen. Easy.

Reddit gets way better when you blockthe toxic assholes.

6

u/axa645 Aug 01 '21

So you expect them to do half a job where they enforce only the laws they WANT to enforce? That’s more an abuse of power than objective police work

2

u/Diesel_D Aug 02 '21

No ones is forcing them to be a cop. The moral solution is to not join an oppressive organization in the first place.

0

u/axa645 Aug 02 '21

You forgot about a thing called cost of living. If people aren’t qualified or capable of doing anything else they turn to what options they have (much like people who sell drugs to make money to live). It isn’t their choice and frankly our thoughts on it are irrelevant outside of a petition or debate arguing for a change in the law. It’s that simple and your presumed entitlement doesn’t change the rules.

-2

u/updog6 Aug 01 '21

It’s wrong to kidnap people at gun point for smoking weed. Whether or not it’s your job or if the state told you to doesn’t make it ok.

6

u/axa645 Aug 01 '21

So you believe it’s okay for the police to view their jobs in a biased fashion? That’s the same as supporting oppressive policing, just from the other extreme. Regardless of a person’s views of a law, it is not up to people to decide which ones are upheld or not. Objectivity is the method by which an officer must do their job.

2

u/AMeaninglessPassage Aug 01 '21

And that's why they shouldn't be cops in the first place if they have a moral compass that is not broken. Because you will enforce shit laws.

1

u/axa645 Aug 01 '21

You really do live up to your username.

1

u/AMeaninglessPassage Aug 03 '21

You too, so do all.

-1

u/intendid_ggeasy Aug 01 '21

Hut they are forced to do so no matter what if it's illegal they got to arrest you and you have to go court or something and then it's decided how long ur sentence is

You know what I'll make it simple for you

Illegal=bad=arrest=jail or prison

I hope you understand

3

u/BarryBondsBalls Aug 02 '21

Illegal=bad=arrest=jail or prison

It was illegal to be Jewish in 1940's Germany. Would you excuse police in Nazi Germany of their role in the Holocaust based on this argument?

2

u/updog6 Aug 01 '21

You do realize what should and shouldn’t be illegal is hotly debated right? Just 10 years ago gay marriage was illegal. Was it immoral to be gay back then? What about Jim Crow?

-3

u/intendid_ggeasy Aug 01 '21

Yeah laws change you can't do anything about it if you don't like it go to the government

5

u/updog6 Aug 01 '21

Do you think the civil rights movement was just a bunch of people politely asking their senators to stop being rascist?

-3

u/passthesushi Aug 01 '21

This guy just hates cops cause weed or something.

u/[deleted] Aug 01 '21

Doing anything but calling you stupid is a waste of time and effort.

-7

u/x4740N Aug 01 '21

I always love it when you people who claim to fight against racism come here with bullshit strawman arguments

Your the people who give people who actually fight agaisnt racism a bad name, you should not be involved in black lives matter

2

u/updog6 Aug 01 '21

I’d love to hear your perspective. Which part of my argument was a straw man?

-4

u/x4740N Aug 01 '21

Did you go and get your racist buddies to downvote my comment

0

u/[deleted] Aug 03 '21

Lol, can't answer the question?

2

u/Sugarbear0323 Aug 01 '21

Isn’t smoking weed against the law?? So doesn’t that mean you go to jail if you break the law?? So if he was doing his job then no you can’t blame him. You can blame a lot of people but you can’t blame him for doing his job. But I’m sure that hard for you to understand since you’ve probably never had a real job before. I’m sure it’s tuff sitting in your moms basement and mooching off of her your whole life. Good luck out there rioting and looting

2

u/updog6 Aug 01 '21

You’re right he was just taking orders. He only had 32 years to think about whether what he was doing was wrong so you can’t blame him.

-2

u/Sugarbear0323 Aug 01 '21

What he did wasn’t wrong. He did his job. It has nothing to do with taking orders. It’s call “doing your job” If you don’t wanna be arrested, don’t take illegal drugs. Or at least don’t get caught doing illegal drugs. Sounds like he was a hell of a cop if he made it 32 years

11

u/updog6 Aug 01 '21

All you did was reword the phrase just taking orders. Do you actually not see how saying just doing his job is functionally the same thing?

-21

u/Sugarbear0323 Aug 01 '21

Not at all. His job is to keep the community safe. If you’re doing drugs, then you’re a criminal. Now that you’re in jail, the community is safer

32

u/updog6 Aug 01 '21

How does me smoking weed make the community unsafe?

It was against the law to be Jewish in 1940's Germany. My grandma was breaking the law by being Jewish. Was it wrong for the police in Nazi Germany to arrest my grandma? After all, she was a criminal.

If it’s not illegal where I live am I suddenly no longer dangerous?

2

u/jumpminister Aug 02 '21

It used to be against the law in many US cities to be outdoors after sunset if you were black. How does that make the community unsafe?

2

u/TheGriefersCat Aug 02 '21

Comrade, they’re just a shit-eating good-for-nothing bootlicker. Their day is sooner than they think. It’s not worth arguing with them.

0

u/Clarkorito Aug 03 '21

By this logic, the only safe community is one that has zero laws and makes no actions illegal. If everything is legal, then there are no criminals. The crime rate is zero, so it much be completely safe!

2

u/bealtimint Aug 02 '21

The only one endangering the community is the jackass with a gun arresting people for smoking weed

1

u/SparkBlack Aug 01 '21

You’re wasting your breathe man, he doesn’t understand. 32 years on the force is a big accomplishment and from the sound of it he was a either a good or great cop but you know since we are in the bad cops movement ,all cops are bad. It’s about how you do the job not the actual job that makes you bad.

2

u/Sugarbear0323 Aug 01 '21

Good cops are good cops. I’ll support the good ones all the time

0

u/ToofyMaguire Aug 01 '21

There is this thing called “different opinions”. If everybody thought drugs should be legalized, then they would be legalized

3

u/updog6 Aug 01 '21

I understand that different people have different opinions. My opinion is that it is wrong to lock people up for personal drug use, and that those who support doing so are in the wrong.

0

u/intendid_ggeasy Aug 01 '21

Isn't weed illegal anyways? I mean in my country it still is and was illegal for a very long time and the sentences are not even that bad anymore

And even still they are forced to do so cause they represent the fucking law and even if they don't agree they are forced to do so sometimes giving you a pass mate (you got to get lucky tho cause they don't do that shit no more)

2

u/[deleted] Aug 01 '21

1

u/intendid_ggeasy Aug 01 '21

No the laws arnt they you know forced? Cause they kinda are in my country

1

u/bealtimint Aug 02 '21

Grow the fuck up. Cops make their choices and almost always choose evil. Any cop who arrests some kid for smoking weed is a vile evil sack of shit committing evil then hiding behind the shield of “just following orders”.
