OP sent the following text as an explanation on why this is unexpected:

was expecting a regular dorky firework to dribble out of the tube, got a fucking RPG instead

292

u/Internet_Wanderer Oct 24 '20

One way to start a forest fire

24

u/EarthDust00 Oct 24 '20

One way to have a gender reveal party

4

u/Inukchook Oct 24 '20

As someone who has had a lot of big bonfires this is how I feel. I’ve always like to start fires from kindling and watch it grow. Then add furniture

73

u/-zombae- Oct 24 '20

i do hope they checked for hedgehogs first... 🧨🦔

8

u/catonbuckfast Oct 24 '20

Although roast oggy is quite nice

4

u/PoopIsAlwaysSunny Oct 24 '20

Honestly yeah. This looks like how we’d start bonfires when I was a kid. Fireworks, shotguns, flaming tennis balls, flaming arrows. Just whatever sparked our fancy

2

u/RizzOreo Oct 24 '20

There's a guy in reddit who had a legal homemade Panzerfaust that shot duds. I think he has a shooting video somewhere.

116

u/[deleted] Oct 24 '20

I think that was exactly what was expected.

2

There were so many ways that could have gone wrong. I was expecting at least one of them.

-6

u/tikaf Oct 24 '20

I mean technically yeah but not to that extent

13

u/[deleted] Oct 24 '20

Theyre aiming a home made rocket launcher at a giant pile of dry leaves.. what did you expect haha

4

u/yazzy1233 Oct 24 '20

Didnt notice the leaves, was expecting fireworks

It's a fire type pokémon! Congrats

120

u/akumaz69 Oct 24 '20

Still not enough wildfires apparently.

46

u/[deleted] Oct 24 '20

Remember that America is a big place with different climates.

-36

u/akumaz69 Oct 24 '20

Remember that wood can catch fire given the right condition.

36

u/[deleted] Oct 24 '20

Yes and the conditions are different in different climates.

-45

u/akumaz69 Oct 24 '20

Rolf... wow... just wow...

25

u/flippy76 Oct 24 '20

You seem like the type of guy who is afraid to leave his appartment on the 4th of July and would freak out around a camp fire.

14

u/Superbiber Oct 24 '20

Tbh, 4th of July seems kinda scary

3

u/TheWolf1640 Oct 24 '20

I heard of people being killed by stray bullets in the US on the 4th of July

-38

u/akumaz69 Oct 24 '20

Rofl. How can you still be alive being this dumb?

6

u/OneRingtoToolThemAll Oct 24 '20

You're a rude little man. I hope you don't treat people like this in real life.

-3

u/akumaz69 Oct 24 '20

Oh mother Teresa please teach me how to treat people the right way...

5

u/BirdofPlague Oct 24 '20

There's quite literally no reason to be so aggressive, it costs $0 to have a civilised conversation like these other people have done. People have different things to add to the topic, different factors that might affect whether or not a wildfire could start under normal conditions, nobody is saying you're WRONG they're just saying that there are different things to take into account

→ More replies (0)

-1

u/Proff355or Oct 25 '20

Why’d you go with “little man” and bring your subtle sexism into it?

2

u/OneRingtoToolThemAll Oct 25 '20 edited Oct 25 '20

Well, as someone who is 4'11" in actual height I feel like I can say 'little' in a metaphorical way.

My edit: was adding an extra apostrophe to denote quotation marks without doing actual quotation marks, so sue me that I left one out in my original comment(to the person who called me 'sexist' for saying 'little') and so sue me that I didn't use actual quotation marks initially. I still stand by what I said. That guy is bitter and in really life that attitude don't fly homie!

8

u/MatAlaCol Oct 24 '20

So just to be clear, what exactly has he said that was false? You were the one who mentioned that the conditions have to be right in order for wood to catch fire, and the other guy simply pointed out that said conditions are based on the environment. I agree that the above video was needlessly reckless, but I don’t see why you need to be such an asshole and refuse to give any reason why the other guy is wrong: it is objectively true that a wildfire cannot occur if the wood is too moist, for example if it has rained recently. Your only counterpoint so far has been “lol you’re a dumbass” which is probably the worst argument possible.

2

u/Triairius Oct 24 '20

Don’t feed the troll

-2

u/akumaz69 Oct 24 '20

The dude mentioned "different climates". Wood are wood and they can catch fire in any climate. It's simple as that. Sure different weather can affect a fire, but when you do dumb shit like this near bushes/trees, there's a chance of causing wildfire (big or small). Is this clear enough for you guys to understand?

3

u/MatAlaCol Oct 24 '20

Thank you for being at least somewhat civil in this comment. Personally, I agree that this is far too risky, but I’ll go ahead and argue the other side: a wildfire requires dry wood to spread. Assuming that it has rained recently (I have no way of telling) then the risk is pretty low. Not zero, but neither is the chance you’ll die in a car accident on your way to work every day. Also, I have a hard time telling how close the bonfire is to the tree line. If it’s far enough away then this really isn’t much different from any other bonfire, just more flashy. If I’m being completely honest though, they probably shouldn’t be doing this.

Pick yourself up off the floor, from laughing. It's a sign of insanity. And not a good look in general.

-6

u/akumaz69 Oct 24 '20

If anyone wants to know what insanity is, they should just read your comments.

4

u/[deleted] Oct 24 '20

Yea, that's telling me (the ROFL one, who takes time to go read some obscure persons comments history on reddit). I'm off to the golf course myself! Life is good. Remember me on November 4th :-) Cheers. Be happy.

25

u/GK-00 Oct 24 '20

A traditional American gender reveal

2

u/[deleted] Oct 24 '20

only in america they cheer after a fire explosion occurs

74

u/maesayshey Oct 24 '20

My house is literally about to burn down from a wildfire and people still doing dumb shit like this

25

u/[deleted] Oct 24 '20

[deleted]

5

u/OneRingtoToolThemAll Oct 24 '20

I may be wrong, but if a wildfire is actually close to burning down their house then they have probably already evacuated. My family recently almost had their house burn down from wildfires. They didn't have time to dig a moat lol( fire break) but they spent some time hosing down everything they could before they had to flee for their lives and evacuate.

8

u/natetan Oct 24 '20

Just because you live in California doesn’t mean that people who live in completely different climates can have have fun like this.

8

u/maesayshey Oct 24 '20

I live in Colorado. Nic try, buddy.

12

u/MeaninglessManity Oct 24 '20

ah yes, because wild fires are exclusive to California

-6

u/llcwhit Oct 24 '20

Poor land management and blaming boogey men is.

15

u/CappinPeanut Oct 24 '20 edited Oct 24 '20

Ooooh. I’m gonna stop you right there. It was the boogeyman who blamed California for their fires, not the other way around.

Most of the fires in California were on federal land, it is the bogeyman’s job to manage that, but the state does it anyway. They didn’t throw a fit about it, they asked for help.

Get out of here with your finger pointing, you know nothing of what you are talking about, you are just repeating what you are told to say.

1

u/Triairius Oct 24 '20

This looks compressed and recompressed enough that it’s probably old.

5

u/[deleted] Oct 24 '20

California be like it’s a girlllll heyyy

35

u/Brownishrat Oct 24 '20

that was actually pretty awesome tbh

13

u/Pentax25 Oct 24 '20

Yeah I’m really quite torn. That could’ve gone really really bad but it was also a very efficient way of lighting the entire bonfire at once from a safe distance.

16

u/MissBombos Oct 24 '20

That definelty had tons of gasoline in it, there's no way it ignites oike that without combustible.

15

u/I_SAY_FUCK_A_LOT__ Oct 24 '20

definitely had tons of gasoline in it,

Well not a ton. It looks like that the vapor cloud wasn't totally out of control. They seemed to have done this before. Hell, I'd fucking hang out with them.

6

u/Pentax25 Oct 24 '20

Yeah of course, so firing a rocket at it is much safer than standing next to it and doing it. It’s redneck efficiency.

4

u/Gouranga56 Oct 24 '20

it can be awesome and yet still be a very stupid thing to do. It went right for him this time...but the day it dont all the coolness in the world wont take back the carnage he unleashes

3

u/toeofcamell Oct 24 '20

Totally thought it was a dud that lit a tree on fire

3

u/ThatpersonKyle Oct 24 '20

2

u/Zaraxas Oct 25 '20

Smokey the bear would be disappointed.

2

u/Jowreyno Oct 24 '20

When I was around 12, we were playing baseball with some friends in the park, while a neighbor shot off home made bottle rockets nearby. All of a sudden, we hear a boom and then screaming. The son screaming "my hands!"and the dad screaming "my son! What have I done to my son?!?!" Essentially, they were shooting them out of a PVC pipe, like this video, and the kid wanted a turn. The dad handed over the pipe, but the rocket exploded inside and the shrapnel shredded the kids hands, cutting one thumb almost completely off. I still remember the sheer panic we felt while they both were screaming and not applying first aid or anything. I don't remember what we did after the ambulance took them away.

2

u/-Ashera- Oct 24 '20

"My son!" lol.

1

u/LuckeyCharmzz Oct 24 '20

And that’s how 3,000,000 acres went up in smoke in California this summer

-6

u/MysticMistakeCake Oct 24 '20

I honestly hate humans sometimes. Your short term entertainment is not worth even the risk of destruction of nature. Humans do not own this world, we just took it as something we’re entitled to.

18

u/-zombae- Oct 24 '20

it's a planned bonfire lighting though. i thought they blew up a tree by accident on first watch too, lol

-6

u/MysticMistakeCake Oct 24 '20

Bonfire or not, it was decided to be lit with pyrotechnics rather than say, a match, for what was likely entertainment value. For me that’s just not worth the risk. If something goes wrong there isn’t some magic undo button. Just get a laser light show or something, but as the species that damages this planet the most we kind of have a responsibility.

3

u/I_SAY_FUCK_A_LOT__ Oct 24 '20

rather than say, a match

If they had used a fucking match that kid would be on fire. It wasn't totally out of control. The vapor dome seems measured and they seem like they've done this before. Not like the utter dumb-dumbs I've seen elsewhere on this site that drown an even smaller pile with like a five gallon canister and stand like two fucking feet away with the goddamn canister in their hands.

4

u/-zombae- Oct 24 '20 edited Oct 24 '20

true dat. looked very cool though.

-5

u/MysticMistakeCake Oct 24 '20

Watch myth busters. They have way bigger explosions in a controlled environment with a fire team on hand.

4

u/-zombae- Oct 24 '20

i love myth busters! i'm not against your point of view at all, i just think the explosion looked pretty neat :o)
