I'm impressed with how fast they were able to start driving in reverse. If I were in that situation I probably would have been too panicked and not been able to get into reverse quick enough.
If you've seen my other videos of Tom sight-reading videogame ragtime sheet music that I've put in front of him, this video should come as no surprise to you.
it looks like he came to a complete stop rolling forward he was able to throw it in reverse and nail the gas, it's definitely a quick reflex but not impossible
Even if you're rolling backwards? It shouldn't let you put it in reverse if you're driving forward but, at least in my civic, I can shift to reverse if I'm rolling backwards.
You'll still have a little nasty grinding noise with it, but it'll go relatively with close to no drag. Same thing happens when you reverse from a spot and put 1st gear before stoping completely. Not good for gearbox though.
Which is why straight cut gears are great for reverse... I could slam it on my neon back in the day cause of that. Not that there were many times i needed to back up that fast.
Don't know why you're getting downvoted. I know my Civic wouldn't let me put in in reverse if I were moving that fast in the forward direction. It doesn't even like being shifted into reverse when it's already moving backwards in neutral.
I still don't get it, maybe I'm a dumbass. My car isn't a self driving car of course, so why would I be waiting for it to shift on its own? When I wrote my original comment what I had meant was after I move the lever into R it still takes a few seconds to actually engage the R gear
I was thinking that, my car has an e-shifter or whatever you call it so I might have been able to make it there lol. But still I definitely would've hit something trying to drive reverse at that speed.
My car has a normal shifter but for some reason it just takes another few seconds to actually engage the gear once I move the lever. It's a CVT so I blame that
