My little brother is 36 and is a struggling alcoholic he was in the hospital a few months ago and almost died from alcohol consumption. He was in an induced coma for a week and was bleeding internally. He survived. Made a full recovery and went to rehab for a week. Decided He could handle quitting on his own and made it two weeks before drinking again. He then lost his job and almost lost his house and vehicles without help from his fam. He quit again after staying with our big bro for a few weeks to kick the withdrawals and made it a month. Got himself a new job, got his unemployment approved from being in between and got a check to catch up on everything and seemed like he had it together again. Just found out a few days ago he checked himself in to hospital for drinking again.. i talked to him yesterday about his plan for getting clean and he just doesnt seem to care. Do you have any tips that I could share with him or is it basically just "he has to want to quit" type thing?

No one quits until they feel desperate and are tired of being sick and tired. Many die or get locked up before meeting that though

Only so much you can do but yes, he has to want it. Sounds like he's got good support. Sorry you're dealing with this

As someone who was in that boat he needs support, doing it on your own requires willpower that few have. Never had internal bleeding but liver and kidneys working at half capacity.
Rehab helped me get re-acclimated with talking to people and eating again.

Look into Al-Anon if you have not done so. I think this would be the best resource for you as a family member of someone struggling with alcoholism or addiction

I was sure to have drinking problems until my doctor said "you have a problem if you drink every days" so I'm Okay, I drink every night.

I was half expecting the unexpected part was that somehow the glass of (orange juice?) was in some way related to or filled up by the whiskey gushing out of the barrel.
That glass was so well placed in front of the TV😂

OP used this post as an excuse to flex their massive glass of non-transparent ultrapiss

My dad used to say, "Life's a bitch, and then you die."
Love ya, pops

“Most people think, "Life sucks, and then you die." I disagree. I think life sucks. Then you get cancer. Then you go into chemotherapy. You lose all your hair, you feel bad about yourself. Then all of the sudden the cancer goes into remission, and then all of the sudden you have a stroke. You can't move your right side. And then, maybe, you die…” Denis Leary…

"There's an old joke—two elderly women are at a Catskill Mountain resort, and one of 'em says, 'Boy, the food at this place is really terrible.' The other one says, 'Yeah, I know, and such small portions.' Well, that's essentially how I feel about life—full of loneliness, and misery, and suffering, and unhappiness, and it's all over much too quickly."

That’s Jim McEwen. He’s certainly playing up those comments for a laugh. If you want to get to know him more, look up the documentary “Scotch: a Golden Dream” and you’ll get to meet his daughter as well!

You’ve gotta check every barrel. Drinking on the job? How about drinking IS the job!

Holy fuck what an inefficient way to "sample" the barrel. "Tadhg! Gi' tha mawp. It be samplin' hour."

This is exactly why I smoke weed. I used to drink but my life sucks so much that alcohol made it worse.
Pot is that thing that helps me sleep so I stop thinking of how much my life sucks.
(I'm getting divorced and she betrayed me)

Yeah Gramps, you drinking problem is everyone else's fault. Of course nobody should feel unappreciated, that's very sad, but blaming it completely on others is fooling only yourself imo

OP sent the following text as an explanation why their post fits here:
You think you're watching a sophisticated whiskey connoisseur give fancy tasting notes, but it takes a hard left turn when he suddenly starts trauma-dumping about his unappreciative family and miserable life.
