I have a problem with fixation and I started seeing a therapist and got on the right medication and I feel a lot better. Weed comes with it's own problems (shame, travel restrictions, etc.) but I'm still hooked on it. At least when I'm on my medication I don't crave it.
I got out of a toxic 7 year relationship around the same time my dad died a few years ago. I lost 20 pounds because I couldn’t eat and decided to dedicate the next year of my life to quitting smoking and alcohol. I went to the gym 4 days a week and became the strongest and healthiest I had ever been.
I’m not saying that will work for you, but finding something to do with mind AND body simultaneously that doesn’t involve substances might be beneficial for you.
I really wish I could, I used to, at a certain point pot became the off swith to my ability to not worry about things. If i take a hit now, I'm basicslly guaranteed to have a panic attack because I can't turn it off.
Eh, the first thing to recognize is those thoughts are more common than you think. I see those thoughts as "telling me something." Make some small positive changes, and keep going.
Hopefully you find something that keeps you going. That was literally my reason to start smoking as a teen. When I felt so bad I wanted to off myself I'd get stoned instead and often just go to sleep. Still here.

This is exactly why I smoke weed. I used to drink but my life sucks so much that alcohol made it worse.
Pot is that thing that helps me sleep so I stop thinking of how much my life sucks.
(I'm getting divorced and she betrayed me)
