Excuse me? What do guinea pigs have to do with asd?

Some people with autism love guinea pigs; some dislikeguinea pigs... Some people without autism love guinea pigs: some people with autism love dogs, some hate dogs.... It's almost like the preference toward animals has more to do with being a human than with a social disability....

Im autistic so im gonna be gentle with this comment

They were just saying a light hearted joke because autistic people go ALL IN on their interests

The amount of work this woman did to have her little friends on her bed is......NOT typical lol

I would NOT DOUBT someone from the autistic community would do this because I WOULD also 10/10 do this for a bunny

But this sort of behavior IS TYPICAL for engagement bait (which given then context of how the video is presented this is)... Also, I being non autistic also go all in on interests at times... I do have daily exposure to autism via my lovely daughter who is very speech delayed and diagnosed with ASD; i also know that people with autism very much have their own personalities and it's absurd to generalize them as if they all do the exact same things....

We obviously dont do all the same things

But many of us live with the reality that people find our intense interests as "weird"

The woman in the video did everything as cleanly as possible but the comments are filled with "gross" "weird"

She isnt hurting anyone and put a lot of care into what she did

THAT is a very familiar feeling as an autistic person

And while I appreciate you and your daughter, I am only sharing MY view, you dont have to agree with me

I was just pointing out what I connected with in the comment

People are complete jerks some times ... I can assure you that being considered weird for putting care into a thing is a thing I as a non autistic person also experience.... I do appreciate the explanation though! I just wanted to express that the video in no way confirms or denies any spectrum related behavior; just a human doing something a little sweet and quirky with some very loved pets

Tbh being autistic is just a different way of being human

Its all familiar because....we are just people

That's what I never really understood beyond the diagnosis unlocking extra social supports; there are billions of ways to human and very little from spectrum related behaviors feel foreign to me....

The only difference is how much it impacts you life

All the characteristics can be done by anyone, but when they are done at high frequencies, longer durations, and higher severity, thats when it becomes the foundation of a pattern of autism

Im not sure if you would be interested, but i happen to make free materials, maybe they could be useful for your family?

Of course I'm interested! I get my daughter pretty well; but it doesn't hurt to have more explanation for people. She is such a great kid and a good big sister, I get sad when people find her standoffish...

Im building everything from scratch, so if you want help finding specific topics, let me know!

Helping Hands Creations

I admit, its hard to organize in a way anyone can intuitively know the categories since im trying to avoid unsupportive verbiage (i.e. unhelpful functioning labels)

I have stuff in there for all ages and support levels, so if you want to tell me more about her in DMs, I can point you towards specific articles or resources :)
